Sending pixie dust for your operation this morning. You're lucky you're still having it, as I know a number of elective surgeries are being postponed, due to the c. virus situation. (It's really ramped up here in MA, and health officials are working with our major hospitals to free up more rooms, etc., for a possible surge.)
There was an expert on the news here this morning who urged people who just have standard check ups for things like diabetis, high blood pressure, etc, to cancel those appointments to make room in doctors offices for emergencies, and to avoid getting infected. My husband's diabetis consultant canceled his appointment today. They also said on the news that Dentists are only being allowed to take emergencies for now...no cleanings.

One thing I really appreciated is that the expert explained what they mean by young people are not affected, etc. He said that children get milder symptoms...they aren't coughing or sneezing as much, and if you aren't coughing or sneezing, you aren't going to spread it. So that's why they've been saying they don't spread it as much. But, he said he still thought it was a good move to close schools, because you do still have teachers and you have vulnerable people, and if people aren't mingling with each other, they aren't spreading it either. It was really interesting.

Do you have only government healthcare there? Are doctors/dentists employees of the government. Just curious.

Mexico has no need to filter or decrypt or spy, The rumor is about the US government and its spreading everywhere in tech groups from reddit and youtube.
Supposedly an expansion of the "PRISM" surveillance project.
It doesn't really make sense to me, though....if it was a distraction for the US government to extend spying, why would governments world wide be going along with it? Why would European countries make it easier for the US to gather intelligence on them? It's not just the US shutting everything down...it's all over. Maybe it's a convenient excuse for it, but if they are wanting to expand the PRISM project, they'll do it anyway....this is just convenient timing for them. But I don't think it's a manufactured crisis just to roll out ways to spy, because then the rest of the world wouldn't be involved. Just my take, and what do I know. But it doesn't seem likely to be a fake crisis.

No, they aren't employed by the government. It's kind of like the ACA. Everyone has to have insurance, but you get to choose your insurance provider and your doctor based on what you can afford and what kind of coverage you want. But then you go to the doctor and your insurance info is on file and you don't actually have to pay unless it's something not covered in your package. (most stuff is required to be covered) You just go, and then if you are prescribed medicine, you go to the pharmacy to pick it up. It's really easy. But because of that, people go to the doctor more often...they don't have to worry about not being able to afford it. And the more often you go to the doctor, and the more people who go to the doctor, the greater the risk of spreading a contagion. So they are recommending that if it's something that can wait, you don't go right now. That way you don't get exposed to something nasty when all you needed to do was get your blood drawn, and also if you are one of the people who is asymtomatic, you aren't spreading it to other people, including the doctor who would then be passing it to all his/her patients. And with dentists, they don't want to do standard teeth cleaning because they work in people's mouths. The risk of infection spreading is elevated when you are in close proximity to people's mouths. So only emergencies are being treated right now.

I just wanted to say as a teacher, I have developed the talent not only to read words upside down but also to write upside down too. Sometimes when helping a student and standing in front of their paper and not wanting to turn it towards me so they can still see it has made this necessary. So does this ability make me double twisted?!🤪

So yesterday, I was getting somewhat bored with all the shutdowns, etc. Even our community center is closed, too, and I'm wondering if they're going to close the library (they've cancelled all programs there, but still waiting to see if they'll remain open).

And usually, I'm fairly frugal about how much money I spend on things, that I really don't need -- except when I'm bored, apparently. 🤦‍♀️

Put in a $300 order to L L Bean yesterday. (It was fun at the time . . . :cautious: )

Did you buy anything fun? Or just snowsuits for your snow play time?! :D ;)

Our library's web site just updated: library will be closed for a few weeks. (No access to my favorite, expensive financial and business publications, no books to browse, no videos to check out and take home.)

Oh no! I'm sorry you have lost access to that. I'm really hoping my library is open today. I had a couple books come in while I was in Florida and I'm hoping to pick them up today.

Have you heard anything about what you’ll do for the next few weeks? Do all of your students have laptops?

One weird thing is T has several assignments needed to be printed.. we have a printer, and I think most of his classmates do as well, there is a lot of forms and/or work needed to be printed weekly throughout the year.
I can’t imagine that every kid in the US has a printer at home, though..and if their parents aren’t going to work then they won’t be able to print there either.

Our library was shut down at 5 on Friday. Drove past with DD on Saturday, and it was pretty strange to see the parking lot totally empty.

Here’s the rates I’m getting from high school students for babysitting/help with school work from 8-5 or 9-6 on weekdays. (I would do whichever is more convenient for them)
$10 per hour
$12 per hour
$15 per hour

Am I wrong for being frustrated by this???
I understand that these are typical rates for babysitting, but in this scenario? And especially when the high school kids will be doing their own school work during that time as well????

Our governor has schools shutting down on Wednesday but since our school had Spring Break last week we are closed as of today because of people traveling. As for staff, no teachers or paraprofessionals are allowed in the building this week. In fact the key system has been shut off. I live near the school and can see one of the parking lots from one of my windows and when I looked out this morning I saw a lot of cars in the parking lot and I freaked out that I had this all wrong and I was supposed to go to work today, so I reread the email and it is just custodial and food service staff reporting. Whew! Anyway, teachers and paras are supposed to report on Monday 23rd but no information has been given yet if we are going to prepare home lessons or work on curriculum projects. I suppose our administration is working on that and waiting to see what our state's DPI recommends.

As for our students not all of our students have phones or laptops, and not all have internet access. It is a rural community and some areas where kids live are in some cellular/internet deadspots. So if we do any online learning we will have to make sure paper packets/books are somehow given to students too. I'm hoping we get more info soon.

That's interesting about T's stuff needed to be printed out, you'd think it could be turned in digitally.
