I think I might have to make some blueberry pie for Saturday for E. She's had a very rough week and her school trip to London/Oxford was canceled today. She is crushed. The 2nd years in the dual immersion program go every year, so she's been looking forward to it for over 2 years. They kept asking their teachers if the trip was going through with the Coronavirus stuff. The teachers have been saying for weeks that as long as there's no negative travel advisory, the trip will go through. And there's no negative advisory for England. This morning they were working on one of their assignments, to interview their host family. This afternoon they were told the trip was canceled. If they would have even told the kids there was a possibility so they could prepare, it would be one thing, but to keep saying it will only be canceled if there's an advisory, and then cancel it just days before the trip...low blow.
And they also said that they can't figure out any dates to reschedule, and because there's no negative advisory, the school's travel insurance won't cover the cancellation, so we're just out the money and the kids don't get to go. We'll be complaining about that. We didn't get to choose whether or not they cancelled and the school made that decision, so the school should be footing the bill.
But E was sick yesterday, and got a low grade on her last math test. Her average for Math was 98% before the test. She thought she knew the material and everything went well, but she somehow got a 65% and is crushed that her average is now a 90% and she can't bring that back up. And because she was sick, she missed getting the test back to look over it and figure out what went wrong.
Then she was supposed to have a project for her religion class. They visited a church and learned all about vestment colors and such, and they could work with a partner. So she and a friend paired up, the friend took pictures and E took notes. She asks the girl when she wants to get together to work on the project, and the girl says she wants to do it by herself instead. E is hurt and confused, but her religion class this week was cancelled, so she at least has more time to work on it.
But she's been asking for blueberry pie for weeks...maybe that will lessen the sting of disappointment.
