Looking back, I can’t say that I blame Iger for the early underinvestment in the parks. He was dealt a bad hand and was also rather unlucky.

Between the triple financial failures of DCA, WDSP, and HKDL, areas of the company that needed more desperate attention, as well as the recession, the Orlando parks were not in a leading position for big investments early on in his tenure, especially given that Florida was particularly hit hard by the recession (Florida‘s real estate and tourism industry being a large part of their economy.)

Universal really dodged a bullet with their home run.

They’re a lot more fun. I just don’t think I’ll ever get used to the look. It’s not that I dislike it per se, but it’s just not the Mickey I‘m used to, and it never will be.

Same thing for styles of Mickey that came before my childhood. They just look weird to me.

I’m glad that they’re keeping both styles around though.

Pixar has been strong for 25 years, and their staff helped revitalize WDAS I feel that investment has paid off already even if Pixar tanks.

Star Wars despite what a vocal minority will tell you is still an incredibly popular franchise and when a quality product is created within that universe it becomes a phenomenon (The Madelorian)

Marvel has been popular for nearly 50 years and is home to the evergreen properties like Spider-man and X-Men. Thanks to the MCU, people are also aware of a large population of their characters, walk up to a random 40 and under person and I bet they could spout off 10 Marvel characters, they aren’t going anywhere.

I get criticizing Iger’s management of the parks, but there is no way any of these 3 moves can be spun as a failure.

That is the whole purpose of diversifying. They aren't going to all get outdated at the same time. That is why companies do that. They don't put all their eggs in one basket. There was a time when TWDC relied heavily on the theme parks doing well to stay profitable. That no longer is the case. The company is much less prone to recessions if they have items that are likely to stay strong when people are struggling and can't afford the thievery that the parks have become. The purchases that he made might have angered the theme park fans, but they may very well be instrumental in keeping TWDC able to continue the parks even through tough financial times. And they will come sooner or later. It wasn't that many years ago when they were very serious about selling the the parks to outsiders.

Disney has maintained its relevancy for nearly 100 years. Marvel has been around nearly as long. Star Wars almost half a century and pixar a quarter. Age and time are not the villain. With proper steering and choices relevancy can be maintained indefinitely. Despite the passage of time those things have stayed culturally relevant by reinventing themselves and staying present in the public conscious.

If Disney allows itself or those brands to become outdated/stale/irrelevant it’s because of their own actions and missteps. Something that could or would happen regardless of those acquisitions.

Disney seems to have learned their lesson from the "Treasure Planet" days. They know how to watch their back, unlike other venerable institutions. Back in the day, you'd never expect GE to lose their hold on appliances, Kodak on the imaging industry, or RCA with televisions, et al.

I wonder how close together the train cars will be able to move in the beginning. As in, I wonder if they’ll go for the illusion that the train is connected, which would make the locomotive disconnecting even more impactful. Either way, it should be pretty cool.

Also I wonder if a hill will have a Hollywood sign on it. It should.
