Every time I’m typing quickly, I throw Muppets into that list too, even though I know better. Maybe it’s because all their new content came during the Iger years.

When was the last time a Disney exec stepped into the cutting room at the last minute? Black Cauldron?

Again, always watch the marketing/PR stream to know where Disney is trying to redirect your attention to hide their problems. Episode IX opens in a few weeks, and Disney is primarily focusing on the Mandalorian.

Now...as for ROTR...I know some of the people invited to tomorrow night’s event and can’t wait for first-hand info. Everything I’m hearing about the ride itself is good, regardless of problems with the technology or Disney trilogy in general.

I mean, Black Cauldron was really last minute, but if we're talking executive cuts, there are other examples just from Katzenberg alone.

Remember he was the one who wanted to axe "Part of Your World" from Little Mermaid after some test screenings.

Yeah, but modern CEO’s are not exactly known for personally editing films in place of their directors. I find it hard to believe that Iger is sitting in an editing room next to Kennedy suggesting to remove this or add that. Also, as previously mentioned, multiple people have said that the film is finished.

But Cauldron was unique in that he attempted to reconstruct the film in the editing room, and was even stupid enough to ask for B-roll footage and alternate takes on an animated film. (When you watch “Waking Sleepy Beauty,” you realize how clueless and un-creative Katzenberg really was, and when he tried applying formulas to Disney and Dreamworks, he failed.)

I’m not implying Iger’s changes are that significant, but it has been a long time since a Disney exec kept tinkering with a movie up to the last minute.

JJ’s word is meaningless. He frequently lies and later claims it was necessary for PR or marketing.

But I agree that Iger probably isn’t sitting on an editing room with anybody. He’s most likely just insisting on final approval the same way studio execs did long ago during the system years. The idea of the all-powerful Director is somewhat recent compared to film history.

Even Lucasfilm's objections won't override safety. I had a friend who worked Pirates at Disneyland. They had an evac (which is a BFD at Pirates) and they pull anyone with Pirates knowledge, regardless of where they are working. He did this evac next to one of his Pirates Leads who was pulled from Mansion. You got it, there was a CM dressed as an HM maid helping guests out of their boat across from the "dunking the mayor" scene.

How this will translate to RotR, I have no idea. It depends on how many CMs they need for an evacuation. But I have a suspicion they don't have enough CMs in FO uniform to perform a full evac. YMMV.

I think safety and efficiency in an evac will definitely supersede show.

Oh my gosh, did this bring back a memory!

One of my most favorite Disneyland memories is getting stuck on Pirates of the Caribbean around 1998 or 1999, for about an hour in that tunnel where they later put the Davy Jones projection. Finally a swarm of CM's arrived in that tunnel to get us out, and it was... I kid you not... a Haunted Mansion chamber maid, a Davy Crockett Canoes buff boy complete with coonskin cap, a Matterhorn Bobsleds guy wearing leiderhosen and knee socks, and a single "pirate".

We had all made friends with each other in that fiberglass boat sitting there for 45 minutes, and when it was time for the spunky lady in the row in front of me to get pulled out of her row by this rag-tag group of CM's she looks at them and says... "Well, this is a thematic nightmare!" and we all laughed in that darkened tunnel. 🤣

I'm sure when it comes time to evacuate riders from this Resistance ride, and it sounds like this will be happening a lot with this troubled ride, the uniforms worn by the various CM's assisting will the be least of the concerns.
