Whether the heads will move or not, I don't know.

But the welding of the head to the frame is in no way a barrier to the head moving. The beam could be temporary while they install the mechanism (which could be in the body with steel wires going to the head).

The spires of BSO had literally hundreds of beams that stuck out further than they needed in order to put scaffolding on them. When done with the concrete work, and the scaffolding was coming down, they just torched the extending beams off.

I immediately thought of Avatar's floating mountains. Wasn't there plenty of temporary steel that was necessary during early stages of construction and removed as the structure grew?

And yes, I used the suicide analogy not to make light of suicide but rather to emphasise a point. Rather like if talking about sports or competition where one side beats another comfortably and somebody says "Yes, they absolutely murdered them". Their point is clearly not to make light of the act of murder or of murder victims, but rather to emphasise a point. I'll refrain from using the suicide analogy from now on though, as my intent was never to offend and I apologise again to anyone who was offended.

A good point that I'd not even considered. However I don't see how that equates to their heads not moving but them firing lasers? In essence they're tanks on legs so if stored on a star destroyer they'd be unoccupied. If they're unoccupied then there'd be no movement or reaction from them whatsoever as they need humans in them to make them do anything. So if they're firing at the ride guests that pass, then they must be occupied. And if they're occupied, well then why wouldn't the occupants move the ATAT heads whilst firing the guns?

I'm sure you aren't my friend. We seem to have people arguing on both fronts here though and I certainly have no inside knowledge. It would be really cool if they do, but I doubt it will break the ride if they don't. Time will tell eventually but right now it feels a bit like Schrodinger's cat theory.

And for those that aren't clever like what I am ........................ :rolleyes:

It certainly looks like they've removed some of the connectors from this picture, fingers crossed it means movement. At a minimum it appears that 2 out of the 3 have gone?

Folks... they wouldn’t have designed a structural steel tube section frame to move. It is intended to be an illusion, not a real military vehicle. The superstructure would be put in place to get the basic frame and outline. If movement was intended, which it is, then they would build a lightweight skin over top mounted to small motors between the superstructure and the cladding. This is exactly what can be seen in the photo posted by @SWGalaxysEdge

You can also see in the pic that the beam of the superstructure on the far side is right up against the outer shell wall, with a decent space between the two on the near side. That suggests that the outer shell is at one end of its range of motion in the pic. If it weren't supposed to move, you'd think the shell would be centered on its supporting framework.

But they are manned. One has an open panel where storm troopers will shoot at us from inside. And I think if you look you can see figures in the cockpit In the promo vids.
