Man the pressure that parents put on young kids today is awful. No one is born knowing how to play sports and it is a good thing because then no one would be taking the time to discover cures for illnesses, write books, teach schools, build buildings and so on. I am not a sports fan and I never pushed my children to be part of organized sports, they grew up fine.
I know what you mean. My younger brother and I were born when your were in your 30s. Our parents didn't push us into sports at all despite my dad played high school football and was a high school wrestler . We did not join in sports clubs, etc. outside of playing sports for gym or recess.

My parents signed us up for swimming lessons, but it was not for competitive swimming, but having the ability to swim as a life skill.

Not every kid is born with the same gifts like in my case.

I was not made for sports due to my disabilities, but yet I taught myself how to use clarisworks when I was in high school. I used that program for class reports growing up due to my writing not being the easiest to read.

I grew up with speech and motor skill problems. In sports, you need good hand and eye coordination. I did not have good hand and eye coordination at all. My coordination was so bad that it did affect my writing and I have problems using a laptop without using a mouse.

I still had a wonderful childhood without organized sports and grew up as an honor roll student. My parents played a role how I turned out.

This is pretty cool.. my bro in law just posted these for my sisters bday recently..

They met in college where she was on the soccer team and he was on the football team.. as part of their wedding photo shoot they went to their university’s fields and had their pics taken, one in the soccer net with his helmet there too. The school put “Congrats (name) & (name)” on the scoreboard.

I just thought this was so cute.

I had parent teacher conferences this week and they went fine, except for one. I had a parent get really mad when I suggested the student make corrections on a few assignments to improve her grade and that it could help her with the content. Well he flew off the handle and was so upset saying it puts too much pressure on her to make corrections, and 50-60% on an assignment is good enough because it was better than what he could do. During the whole time he was ranting all I could think was, "Am I really getting yelled at because I'm offering her an opportunity to improve?" It was ludicrous and I stayed calm even though I wanted to laugh. I think I got through to him that she didn't have to make corrections and that she could if she wanted to, but it still amazes me. I guess he got upset when another female teacher suggested corrections too but didn't get upset when our male math teacher suggested them. There's always something crazy I guess.

If ( just pretend) he could see a video of the conference and his outburst, maybe he'd feel amazed at his behavior. What a shame that dad did not see your offer as being helpful....educationally generous.

I have so much respect for what teachers have to deal with. I can’t imagine being upset at an opportunity for my child to improve their grade. Crazy parents out there.

Mini Trip Report just because:

Went to Mexico city mid-illness.
Why? Circle du Soleil Crystal was on its way to Russia, last 3 days in Mexico.
Had to be stubborn as hell to get the tickets.
Got tickets pretty close to the rink. This show is not that vertical so the closer the better., specially in on the first elevated areas.

We traveled PVR -> Mexico via cheap airflight using VIVAaerobus. (less than 250 USD with hotel included ).

The planes were pretty new, spartan but new.
Very little turbulence. As usual only near Mexico city you get turbulence.

We arrived fairly at Okeish hours..the trip to the airport to downtown in the middle of the week was the issue. SO much traffic!

The hotel was perfectly placed in one of the busiest closed to traffic streets. We had restaurants, places to shops and tons of banks right next to us.
Only issue was.. the hotel was under renovation, most rooms were renovated already but the entire thing was a maze.
You see. This hotel appears to be a single building from outside, but its obvious that they bought multiple different 4 to 6 floor builders on the entire block. And traversing between these is pretty weird...
We somehow ended with a room facing the opposite street.
Another problem? it was pretty spartan building wise as well.
The bathroom for example. Was of that dreaded "express modern" style. Which instead of having a REAL door, it had a swinging opaque glass door. The shower area only had a long curtain which ended being pretty problematic in the end(water would easily sweep towards the rest of the bathroom.

After setting up, changing up we headed out to walk a bit.. and check out the street (which had a few very old churches from the 1600's onward.) as well as finding a place to eat.

One of the nearby Churches's "capilla".

The wood work and statues when entering the main church body.

Note. No, my photo is not "wrong" or skewed. The Church is severely deformed by the sinking of Mexico City. There are some of the pillars nearly 1 meter lower than the others. And yet.. still standing.
20191010_203920.jpg
20191010_203933.jpg
Here is a fine example. I'm sitting CENTERED upright.
The pews slowly leaned to the sides.. with the biggest sinking on the far left side.
This area is pretty big and contained like 3 churches and a older convent.
20191010_203953.jpg
Detail of the main area of the church. They do put a LOT OF DETAIL on these wood, stone and gold frames in the churches of Mexico and Puebla.

And of course.. the famous Palacio de Bellas artes.
20191010_204454.jpg

After walking around. We returned to eat to a local very famous chain of "breakfast, lunch and dinner" called Bisquets de Obregon. Its ALWAYS packed because they do have tasty food at very decent prices. But the best part of them is their bisquets and fresh bread. They are constantly producing bread in every store/restaurant.

Good grief, not enough money in the world for me to want to be a teacher, especially with that kind of behavior from parents. Y'all are saints.

Was that a football (🏈) movie? I think I remember that. A kid was getting shots and then wasn’t able to play in college as a result.. if I’m remembering correctly.

T is in danger of injuries and I tell him this all of the time. He doesn’t stretch enough!!! He’s on a mission to “get an epic 6 pack and big arm muscles”. Does pushups, planks, and lunges every day. Wants to start weight training. But he is horrible about stretching!!! His calves are so tight right now, I threatened to pull him from sports unless he starts doing yoga with me every morning.. big muscles and 6 packs don’t matter if you can’t move. I told him he could get injured and miss out on an entire season. If he doesn’t get it together then I’m going to make him go to PT, which he doesn’t want to do.

One good thing about his coach is that he runs through the entire FIFA 11+ at every practice and game.. but I watch my son half-doing it.. caring more about getting to the other side first instead of proper toe touches etc. Which doesn’t help him at all!!

OK, another sports-related comment...!!! ;)
Stretching:
When I was on our community Town & Country League soccer team and then on our varsity HS soccer team we stretched religiously for a AT LEAST 1/2-hour before every game and practice.
It IS that important in my experienced opinion. We were also kept well-hydrated...after all, it’s Texas...!!!!! :hilarious:
Anyway, I don’t ever remember any of our players ever being injured in ways that were related to pulled muscles or cramps.
I also remember similar when I took some martial arts lessons for a short period of time...stretching before the training for an appropriate amount of time was required, or you were out. No excuses.
Controlled and concentrated, slow, careful stretching. No bouncing...bouncing can tear muscles...bouncing bad...!!!!! :hilarious:

That is not the only problem. The way the students act is a problem also.

My older cousin has 2 daughters and the younger daughter earlier in this decade went to college to be a high school math teacher. She was in an internship with her being a substitute math teacher at high school at the time, but the high school students gave her an extremely hard time with their very bad behavior.

The experience went so bad that she decided not to became a teacher and actually considered to become a bartender instead:jawdrop:.

She sure keeps me on my toes!! She haggles everything, and lies, and keeps secrets and it's alllllll meant to be signs of intelligence but man, it's hard parenting the cunning ones!

I hold high hopes for your DD in the future. Her brain works all competing angles. A sign of superior intelligence given her age and her ability to negotiate. What a bright preschooler.

While I’m glad she is yours not mine as I’m too old and tired to keep up with all that again she certainly demonstrates a high IQ at an early age. Hope she doesn’t torture you with her genetics over the next 15 years.

On the backside she will likely be a bright and ambitious young woman with goals. She is already setting that tone. I’ve lived through an “A” of my own that dumbfounded me daily. Enjoy the ride.
