What’s the deal with All Star refurbs?

So before the holidays they stopped refurbishing the rooms at All-Star Movies. They have since not started back up. Many thought it was just during the holidays so they could have the rooms in the inventory but we are well past that now and the have still not restarted the refurbishment. So you have a section of refurbed rooms and the rest of the resort still with the old rooms. All three All-Stars are supposed to get the refurbishment.

I’ve looked/asked around and can’t find any solid info on why it’s been stopped.

I was told that it was stopped purely because of money. TDO basically said we have way too many projects going on right now. They don't want to be putting any more money into these resorts (All-Star) since they are building a handful of new hotels. I was also told that the room referbs for All Star's is on hold indefinitely.

Which is weird because hotel refurbs are something that’s done industry wide and something Disney’s always done as part of a cycle. Why even start part of this then stop?

There are guests now requesting the new rooms and there is only a select number of them.

I'm so glad you asked! As one who is trying to keep track of this (non-)refurb, it's beyond puzzling. If they decided they needed to stop, why stop in the middle of refurbishing a resort? Why not finish what you've already begun and THEN pump the brakes? Sigh.

They haven't really done it as part of a cycle. Industry standard for "deluxe" hotel room renovations are 8-12 years, simply because of wear and tear and keeping up with changing styles. Other than some minor enhancements (limited usb outlets, tv replacements, etc). Disney hasn't touched DAK Lodge rooms in 18 years, Wilderness Lodge in 25 years, etc. It's crazy. Thankfully some of the resorts have seen updates but not enough and, in many cases, not thorough enough.

DVC rooms are on that cycle for the most part but thats a bit different. They have been doing a lot of room refurbs in the last few years. I think there are plans to do DAK rooms sooner than later. I know their DVC side is on the list. POR and POFQ just got done or are finishing up. Saratoga is doing theirs in the next couple years. OKW is in the middle of it. Pop just got done. Caribbean Beach was recently redone. Poly was redone a few years ago. GF I think wasn't too long ago either. Contemporary hasn't been for a while now. Yacht and Beach redone within the last few years. I think Wilderness Lodge did get some changes within the last 5ish years as well.

There was a permit filed the other day for model rooms at Saratoga, so it looks like that one is going to be sooner then later.

For what people are paying Disney rooms should be updated more frequently than the average hotel. Vegas and Disney are the two places where rooms need to be updated often.

For anyone interested -

If you are looking to stay at All Star Movies , and want one of the new refurbished rooms, ask to stay in either building of 'The Love Bug'.
Quite nice, although these two buildings are the furthest from the lobby / food court / bus stop.

:)

Wrong. Amazing how much misinformation people spread on here. The Wilderness Lodge has been thoroughly renovated. Here's a picture of the original rooms (I stayed in one) and today's rooms are completely different:

Todays:

I suspect DAK has also been renovated.

There have been minor changes through the years, but nearly all deluxe category hotels do a top to bottom refresh, as opposed to some minor furniture, technology and bedding updates. Disney has let their room portfolio linger far too long.

DAK has not been refurbished, except for new bedding and new armoires for flat screen TVs.

So Pop is completely done correct? And Movies is partially done? What about Music? And I’m assuming Sports is last on the list? We are a value family and I was really hoping for refurbished rooms on our next trip :(
