From the weather map I just looked at there are thunderstorms in the area, so I think they close the coasters until they pass.
They do if they are outside, yeah. Part of the reason our first AK day was so terrible was because there was a Thunderstorm and they closed everything outside, which in AK is almost everything. We were next in line to meet Pocohantas when they closed it down. The CM was great and took the kids' books to get them signed and brought them back to us. No pictures with her, but they got the signature. But they closed all outdoor stuff. Meet and greets, coasters, walks, safari, everything except the indoor shows and the restaurants. Which also meant all that stuff was PACKED. Not a good experience. And we were soaking wet and cold and the food at Tuskerhouse was bad, the hot chocolate was more like dirty warm water....we called it and left early....handed back our dining package tickets for The Jungle Book so some other family could enjoy it, and went to bed as soon as we got back to our resort. I don't think it's as bad in the other parks because there's more indoor stuff everywhere else, but AK is definitely not the place to be in bad weather.

No I haven't. I have decided against a cruise for a while. I do get tempted every now and then though.;)

I’m afraid to even look up the price. Lol

If you do decide to cruise again, you may want to check out NCL.. they run a “kids sail free” promotion fairly often on select sailings.. also right now and once a year, they do a “tax free spree” (unfortunately not for Thanksgiving week :( )
Anyway, you can combine the 2. Kids free doesn’t help me because of double occupancy.. and it wouldn’t really help you on two cabins either, but I think the Haven has 2 suites that sleep 6.. if all of your kids were “free” and without taxes and port fees for all.. you may get a good deal, especially for the Haven!

I never thought about that before, AK would be tough in a storm. Sorry that happened to you.

Hey. I got my Magicbands yesterday and there were coupons for Wide World of Sports and mini golf. There is a card for the rest of the discounts to use. Which is new because they used to just give all paper coupons.
Thanks!
Good to know about the card! She was hiding/throwing out everything related to the trip, apparently just didn’t realize that there was anything else in the box.
Oh no it’s not a good place. We got caught in a very bad thunderstorm last May and had to stand in the bathrooms at the entrance. The lightning and rain were awful. We were standing with so many people you couldn’t move.
Oh no! I’ll definitely avoid that park if any thunderstorms are predicted!

Yeah, they do if there's lightning within a certain radius.

Back in February, there was just some rain, so everything was still running. My brother and I went on 7DMT with raincoats. The resulting photo is pretty epic.

In other news, yesterday noticed a ship I had never seen before.
It was a US navy ship.. and I wondered if it was one of these new stealth ships or what. Because it was very blocky, no curves..

Also no PHALANX defense systems but they had missiles and helicopter pad.
Reminded me of the back of the ship that appeared in the series "The Last Ship".

Turns out it was a San Antonio class amphibious transport ship.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Antonio-class_amphibious_transport_dock

and considering the number on the hull... , it was probably the San Diego (LPD-22)

The 7 day European cruises are reasonable...everything else is ridiculous in the summer.
I remember a couple of years ago I was waiting on the edge of my seat for 11 night Iceland prices to come out on DCL.. for 2 people, in a 5A stateroom- OVER $14,000. GTHO.
Big PASS.
Tried the Alaska one in September, I did that one in 2013.. definitively tripled..

It was 2800USD for basic balcony.

Now it's 2500 USD for interior stateroom! AND 7,000+ for balcony!!!!!

WHAT THE HELL...

*edit*

Just tried Europe..
The Isles from Dover costs 7,000 USD as well..

We are doing Royal Caribbean out of Vancouver....cruising to Alaska.
Departure June 27th or 29th....one of those two

.....and yes....we elected for the inner stateroom. Just there for sleep and a shower. Out and about the rest of the time :)

Honestly, when looking at europe, I would check the new Symphony of the Seas by Royal Caribbean.
My son is asking repeatedly to go on this ship. I just don’t want to give up my perks with NCL!
We will do it though.. just can’t promise when. Hands down looks like the best ship on any sea right now.

As far as Alaska, I think all balcony staterooms are expensive on that itinerary. The one I had reserved (Norwegian) was @ $6700...and that wasn’t even for an aft.. those were sold out almost a year in advance.. I’m sure they’re at least $800 more, probably higher for Alaska.

My issue with DCL is that they don’t do Glacier Bay.. imo that’s one of the main reasons to do an Alaskan cruise.
