Yup and yup. First of all, here's a new story from today--pedestrian killed in Arizona from self-driving car. Woman was crossing the street, outside of the crosswalk. I work in a large city and I see stupid stuff all the time--people constantly jaywalking, or just staring down at their phones, oblivious to the fact that they just stepped out into a street full of moving traffic! :banghead: Just maybe someone in a regular car might have seen that woman, and slammed on the brakes in time. Too late now.

As for the "fun" of driving a vehicle (car, bus, motorcycle), it's not for me; but most men I know love to drive. Hubs hates the thought of anyone but him driving, and he basically doesn't trust (many) other drivers, let alone a machine driver.

And I also have a personal issue with GPS being the only way to find places anymore, when in your car. Hubs likes GPS, but I like paper maps. It's like a little treasure hunt to me to find routes to places. Also, sometimes GPS may not work in certain mountainous areas, like what happened to us a year ago, out in the Berkshires in western MA. Well it was a darn good thing I brought along my dinosaur paper map to refer to, once we got out of GPS range! :p:hilarious:
We have a GPS, but if I am going somewhere I have never been, I always map it myself first. We always have an atlas in the car.

Same here. I love paper maps and I like to print out directions so if the electronics don't work I'm still good to go.

Yes, a PLAN B!! That's my issue with people who only rely on electronic means. Both methods can be utilized in harmony.

I just need to start bringing a magnifying glass for the small print when it gets dark. ;)

Ha! And don't forget a little pocket light, too, for evening drives!

In the early days of GPS I used to test it to see how close it came to directing me to places I already new the direction I used. So, this one time, coming back from Wells Beach, Maine. I asked it how to get home. During the first 50 or so miles back it directed me in ways that I knew were the longest. I don't doubt that they would have eventually gotten me home, but, just the long way. It kept having to redirect me over and over again. Eventually I was driving along the lake were the New Bob Newhart show beginning scene was and it, out of no where told me to turn left. Unfortunately, a left turn there would have driven me clean into the lake. That lady is one vengeful random voice. My new GPS, via Waze is much more friendly and hasn't tried even once to kill me. It is a phone app. and it tells me when there is a pothole, an accident, a car stopped on the side of the road and even if there is a police car up ahead. I like Geraldine. She's my Waze voice and I think she likes me. Even when I tell her to shut up, I am going this other way whether she likes it of not, she never seems to get mad. My wife used to take exception to that kind of thing.

Just wanted to extend a sincere shout out to @donaldtoo, his family, neighbors, friends and colleagues. (Saw the most recent news update about Austin at 4 AM this morning. Decided not to mention it first thing this morning in Chit Chat; but by now, I'm sure most people have caught up with the national news stories.)

Also heard they cancelled a big concert (as part of South by Southwest) tonight, due to some hoax caller (I believe they may have caught the caller--I'm sure he's no relation to the other larger crimes going on down there).

Just sad all this is going on, and hope that the Austin law enforcement and federal authorities can catch this horrible person asap.

Thanks, Minnie.
Just so messed up and so unusual for this city.
Apparently, the freak is now on to trip wires as triggering devices. The two 20-something victims from this morning survived and are expected to make full recoveries.
This person seems to be going clockwise around the city location-wise, so far...1, 3, 5, and now 7 o'clock with this most recent bombing. 9 and 11 could be next. And we're pretty much at 11, and live at the end of a very dark dead-end street.
We have two big very aware noisy dogs and motion activated lights, but, still pretty scary stuff.
Prayers to all affected, and hope they find this sicko before anyone else gets injured, or worse.
This crap shouldn't be happening anywhere.

The like is for T making his first communion
Thanks. I made it just as the meeting was ending, but one of my mom-friends talked to the priest before It started and grabbed my packet for me. She filled me in, plus the packet is fairly self explanatory.
I still have to find a suit. I love the little girl’s dresses and veils., boys dress is boring for 1st communion. ;).
He’s excited to make it! 2 months away, but a lot of preparation before then.

Fastpasses accomplished. I did get FOP. I couldn't get TSMM @93boomer, so I am wondering myself if they will have it closed for construction of the new entrance. Kind of bummed about that as we hadn't been to HS in at least 2 years.

@MySmallWorldof4 and @93boomer one of the websites that I subscribe to says nobody is getting FP+ Those special people in club level that pay for extra FP+ cannot get FP+ reservations either through the month of June. The best guess/rumor is it will close down in early May altogether and not open again until they launch the Grand Opening June 30th.

You, your family, Pups and greater Austin area are in my thoughts and prayers. Pray they get the creep fast. Upsetting and Unnerving.

Chicago's North and Northwest sides today was a string of robberies the last I saw 2 more this evening, from Salons to Food delivery people to people walking on sidewalk. One Limo driver also reported to have won having his auto car-jacked. They believe the same couple of people. These are some of the safest areas of Chicago and many of which where we were last week. Makes ya angry and so unsettling. Lack of better words for all these this type of crimes.

Two juvenile suspects are in custody for 15 of the robberies.

Good question! I believe that someday after a lot of accidents and deaths they will find a way to keep it perfectly safe, but, in order to do that one might as well take a train because it will require designated paths that no one can "accidentally" cross into. I trust technology, but, I don't like the lack of human backup. How many times has ones computer crashed? That can happen with a computerized vehicle as well. Perhaps more electronic backup is involved then in your home computer, but, if nothing else the mess with the ski lift in Georgia loudly lets us know that things fail and with vehicles it can be very catastrophically.

Technology aside, I spent my life loving to drive places. From the fact that I was standing at the door of the DMV on my 16th Birthday to get my drivers license to the fact that to this very day I love road trips. I really cannot get behind just sitting on my butt and doing nothing 24/7 which is what this is all coming too. At the risk of jinxing it, I have driven literally millions of miles just with my own vehicles, not co
unting the years that I drove buses for a living without one single accident (at fault or otherwise, 54 years and counting). I'm still not tired of it. Why do we need to let machines do everything for us completely? Granted motor vehicles were at one point one of those "machines" that would never replace a horse, but, it depresses me that one more skill goes by the wayside.

My dream for how the interstates were designed here isn't to keep widening them but to put light rail or monorails like they have at MCO. We have one light rail up the middle of the expressway from Downtown Chicago and ends in Ohare Airport. They had the right idea, it is heavily utilized but it worked, so they stopped building them????
There are few choices here if any but to drive.
