Yeah, I agree that would be sloppy. But I don’t agree with you that TLJ is a retcon of TFA, and yes, I have read all your detailed posts on the topic. I just don’t agree.

I like how passionate you are about Star Wars. As a lifelong fan myself, I legit feel for you that you hate the new movies as much as you have expressed that you do here (I would be hurting if I felt that way about them) and I do wish the new movies weren’t so polarizing. I think the vast majority of viewers either like them or love them but there is no doubt, in my mind at least, that a large number of hard core fans disagree and legit hate them. I am hopeful that IX will tie everything together in a way that we can all be happy about it but I doubt it. We’ll see.

RJ has confirmed that Kylo wasn't lying and that he believed, at the time, that what he told Rey was true. However, we all know how Force visions work. They can be misinterpreted. They sometimes show something that might look different from a different angle. For example, Kylo saw Rey turn to the dark side and join him. Rey saw Kylo turn to the light side and go against Snoke. They were both wrong...and right at the same time. Rey did work with Kylo to defeat Snoke's guards, but she didn't turn to the dark side and Kylo did kill Snoke, but he didn't turn to the light. They both simply misinterpreted what they saw through the Force vision of the future. Had they seen farther into the future, they would have had more of the truth. And really, both of these visions could still come true and both Rey and Kylo could turn to the other side before it's all said and done. But I hope not. Anyway, RJ left it open that JJ could give her parents a different significance than being nobody. Everything we learn in Star Wars is always, "from a certain point of view" imo..

If you read my posts as clearly as you say you have, you would know that I do not "hate" the "new movies".

I thought TFA was great - until TLJ went and made it look like the stupid Mary Sue story so many criticized it for when it came out by essentially rendering the largest chunks of the film pointless. The blame is put on TLJ, which ignored basically everything about TFA. I'm glad you are able to look past the massive incongruities between the films and just enjoy them on a surface, moment-to-moment level - I just had higher hopes that Disney/Lucasfilm would have presented us with a story that at least made sense.

So, Rey only knows of her drunken parents who she fantasizes are good people coming back for her, misinterpreting her Force-sense that Qui-Gon and Ahsoka are looking for her. And Kylo misreads Rey's memories and only focuses in on the drunks.

For the record - I don't hate TLJ. It was just disappointing due to (my) high expectations for it. Some of the humor was well-placed, other times it felt forced (no pun intended). Plot holes a-plenty. The ending... interesting from one standpoint but a letdown from another.

Honestly, I find that much more compelling than anything JJ or rian Johnson has come up with...they really have basically punted any chances to be ingenious in the writing

I had to look up who Ahsoka Tano is....she's not in the movies so I wasn't aware of her existence, that's not good for continuity in the movie franchise
