Every party I ever threw my kids was always at my house. They would play games, eat pizza and cake and ice cream. We have done paint your own pottery where we would go to a paint your own shop, but then would come back to my house for food. Once I did do a gymnastics party for my youngest at the gym my kids attend. But that was only $90 to rent the gym for 2 hours and have 2 coaches do the activities for the kids, like obstacle courses and such. Money well spent.:) My neighbor has spent hundreds at those bouncy house party places.
My daughter's parties were always at home. We made our own lipgloss one year. I don't recommend that one if there are kids with ADHD involved. Such a mess! But it was only the one girl who didn't listen or follow instructions and made a mess. The rest were fine.

Sometimes I wish we still did parties at home but seeing James' is in the middle of summer the pool works out better(we can use the inside of our club house for free as long as we clean up after) and our older ds and his buddies like an all you can eat place that's centrally located
DD doesn't want to do parties anymore. She'd rather just have a friend or two over to watch some Netflix and chill. DS, I have no idea...I think he WANTS a party, but he has no one to invite. His only real friend moved this summer. I'm so hoping he makes some friends in chess!!! I want him to have someone to invite and have fun with!

After years of sampling everything a lot, (not coffee, that was disgusting at first swallow:hungover:) I have made the determination that they only thing worth drinking, other then water itself, is Unsweetened Iced Tea. Everyone might want to write that down lest ye forget. :D
Side note to all people that work in food service. Iced Tea does not mean a couple of chunks of ice. Iced Tea is very cold tea, not lukewarm tea tasting water. Don't be afraid to put a lot of ice in it. Iced Tea is 99.999% water to begin with, you can't really water it down. It all blends together.
Don't really care much for Coke either, however, a suitable substitute is Pepsi (in moderation)
I'm a Pepsi fan. Coke , not so much....that keeps me drinking water at Disney . Or the occasional Icee.

Wow, that's really poor business practice!! They shouldn't be stocking at that time, and if they are, everything should still be accessible! When DH and I lived in the states when we were first married, we worked at Walmart stocking shelves. It was an overnight job...we started at 10:00 pm and got done at 6:00am...that's when the store is the least busy so you are less likely to inconvenience customers, or to create a hazard with boxes, plastic wrapping, debris, and box cutters. I'm surprised Target doesn't do things similarly.
Probably just our store. I've not noticed people stocking except early in the morning. Around 7 A.M.

@Mr Ferret 88 and @MinnieM123 it was an excellent day at the farm market!!!!!!!!!!!! It's one of the happy weeks when I can get both beets and okra:hungry::hungry::hungry::hungry::hungry::p:D
See...I'm with you on veggies being awesome...Broccoli, sprouts, spinach, squash....yum-diddle. Then you go and throw that out there, and I just gotta ask...do you have tastebuds? All the yummy veggies available to you and you go with the one that tastes like feet and the one that is bitter as anything? How do you make them palatable??

My perfect day went to heck quickly. ok maybe it wasn't so perfect after waiting up for James, getting up to get my dh off to work at 4(at least I got to sleep until 3:30) and getting the kids to a fund raiser before going shopping but it was pretty good considering and was looking to get better. Now I have to tell my dh and James on of their favorite aunts has passed when they get home:( It's going to be a rough week:(
Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that. I take it this is your husband's family, not your side? Condolences!

So far I baked a loaf of oatmeal bread, potato stew is simmering and I am preparing a pureed vegetable soup which I just call tomato, :)because if I call it vegetable then a certain child will not consume it. ;)It is actually full of cauliflower, carrots, zucchini, onion, and tomato paste. The tomato seems to take over the flavor. I compare it to those of you that ever ate Chef Boyardee ravioli, the tomato sauce. :)
I made that soup with split pea instead of zucchini, like you the tomato is the dominate flavor. Yummy!

What's primarily happened to parties at home, is that parents no longer know how to say no or don't want to clean up after or want to impress neighbors by spending money to hold a party on location. Perhaps a combination of all three. Social pressure is the strongest of these incentives.

Yes, whatever happened to pin the tail on the donkey and chips, soda, and cake?

I had two brothers and one sister and all our parties were the same. All were at home, and we'd invite maybe 6-8 kids. People brought (reasonably priced) gifts, and then we'd have cake and ice cream. The big "entertainment" was Pin the Tail on the Donkey. (Note: with all the birthdays for 4 kids, that Donkey target had so many holes and rips in it--but my mother kept putting it up each time! That was from her generation--fix/repair everything. That darn donkey had more tape holding it together, from multiple years of use!) :D

So, considering some of the big bashes I've heard about (for some families nowadays), I could say that our generation missed out on more pricey extravaganzas. But, since no one had parties like that (that I knew of back then), we didn't know anything else, so we thought the ratty old Pin the Tail on the Donkey was big fun! :p

I would love to. We spent the morning outside at Jake's soccer game. It was 46 with a cold north wind. I didn't wear a warm enough coat. :coldfeet::coldfeet::coldfeet: I'm in a coat and you are by the pool . Enjoy. I hope Jose misses your state. Maria, which is the next storm brewing is doing the same path as Irma. No cruise information right now. The bahama's may be hit too. I hope it's all wrong. Puerto Rico is in her path right now. Yike's. And another storm right behind Maria.:eek::eek::joyfull: Oh, I did turn on my fireplace when I got home, it's nice and cozy.:cat::cat::cat:
Sympathy like. I hope nothing comes of any of those nasty storms and you get to go on your cruise. As of the last time I looked it looks like I won't get much or any of Jose but still fear for @MinnieM123 and @FutureCEO' future weather
