This past weekend I found a bunch of old tapes from our trips to WDW in the early 90s and I totally forgot how great Dream Flight was. Seeing those videos to refresh my memory I definitely prefer it to Buzz.
Delta's Dreamflight was awesome. However, it may be that I'm just old, but I still think If You Had Wings was better. I still get that song stuck in my head sometimes when I go to an airport!

Well, that was ridiculous.

I logged in at exactly 1:00 EDT (10 a.m. PDT), when the tickets were supposed to be available, and they were not available yet.

Then I refreshed every 10 seconds or so until the "Get tickets here" button opened up, and clicked on it when it did.

At 1:01, I got the "sold out" screen.

That is beyond ridiculous.

This year I wanted to go to the Epcot 35th event also -- and it was also sold out the same day (not sure about immediately).

I am beyond mad about this, and wrote them. I almost ready to ask for my membership fee ($79) back.

On the positive side, it should show them the affinity for the ride. But on the other side, it is almost a slap in the face: "We are going to do this wonderful thing for the fans... but never mind that we tease you with it and only let three people attend. At least we can say we did something..."

I take back everything nice I said in the previous post.
I wonder if companies as big as Ticketmaster or other massive conglomerators bought all the tickets they could for reselling.

I had the same exact experience, beyond fustrated with D23 as I signed up exclusively for this event. Of course when I called customer service the rep said well that can't be true because I got tickets just fine..... Whaaaaat that's your response to an upset member. Of course the membership is non refundable so I'm stuck paying 79 for nothing

I, too, was not successful. I have the Gold Family membership, but I had noticed in the fine print that it was for yourself and 1 guest. As I wanted to bring along 2 family members, I signed up for the free 30-day trial of the TCM Backlot. I had both windows open and continually refreshed them. The TCM Backlot got me in at 1p ET, but I didn't submit my info right away as I wanted to make sure I could get in with D23, which didn't have the ticket button available until 1:02p ET (and was completely sold out, of course). By the time I went back to TCM Backlot, I got an error message, so I lost out.

I have been a member of D23 since the start and have been continually disappointed with the damaged magazines I receive in the mail (corners are always bent). I miss the days the magazines were sold in bookstores. One year after I had called a second time to complain about a damaged magazine I had received, I was told that I could only receive one replacement magazine a year. For what everyone pays, you would think they would have a better way to package their magazines.

Anyway, the only D23 event we have been able to attend in our family's price range was the POTC event earlier this year at Disney Springs with Marty - so immensely thankful we had the opportunity to hear him speak. Aside from that, I'm not sure about continuing the membership. If the magazines were offered in stores again, then I would cancel the membership.

I wish they would offer additional opportunities, so more people could take part, but c'est la vie. I know I'm very fortunate to have been on the ride as many times as I have - will truly miss it.

You know, in some ways I don't know what to think. I know it has to be limited due to ride capacity; but I also know that the Epcot 35th event also sold out on me

Two things come to mind:
  • The East Coast events need to be scheduled with more capacity. It is almost hurtful in a strange sort of way. I guess I still want at least the people in charge of the fan club (the place with the most ardent fans) to understand the gold standard of customer service (and even crowd management -- the classic rides were people eaters) that Walt Disney World and DL used to represent.
  • The fact that both this event and the Epcot 35th event sold out almost immediately should really be told to management. They need to understand what is driving this, and it is not only nostalgia. It is that these things hit a chord that is worth continuing to play. They have forgotten why certain rides and tones of attractions have a core base that is long-term and worth continuing just as much or more so than the "fast rides" element.
I have strong doubts that management will ever know how fast these events sold out, or understand why; but I do think that someone should tell them. It does matter.

Or to be devils advocate, they know nostalgia sells. They can get rid of the "old" stuff, bring hip new things (IP's) in, and then still use nostalgia to keep the "old" group happy. As far as they're concerned, everyone is happy. They get more people into the parks to see Guardians/Star Wars/whatever franchise is new and cool and do anniversary events to keep the "old" group happy. Everyone "wins". I'm not in support of this thinking though.

So, should we be planning a meet-up of sorts on the 13th, possibly wearing GMR t-shirts for the ever popular "family photo" or Hollywood-inspired attire possibly? (I'm into that kind of thing..) Really bummed I wasn't aware of the Parks Blog after hours event

My fastpass is at 11AM. Just shorts and a T-Shirt for me. Maybe I'll go with Indiana Jones as a goodbye to the Raiders scene.

If anyone is going to the special event in the early morning, or even maybe the final ride, I would love to see a live stream on Facebook or YouTube video. Please post a link here or tell us how to find you for a live stream if you make one (or how to get to it if you find one by someone else).

I am still somewhat irritated with D23 that they take our membership money but make these events (Epcot 35 Fanniversary and the GMR event) so limited that even those checking the website the moment tickets go on sale cannot get them.

Final ride for me will be Energy.

Shouldnt you be able to do both technically? Or are they starting a "last ride" line at DHS early?
No idea. I just know I want to be on Energy's last ride. Anyone know if it would still close at 7 on that day or would they keep it open later?
