are sets sometimes just re purposed and others just covered up?
More expensive equipment is often re-used especially animatronics. There is a long history of "this use to be be that" in present day attractions. However, that is not always the case. I believe 3 of the Nautilus Subs from 20k survived to be reused elsewhere. The rest are in a landfill.

It is also not uncommon for attractions and parts of attractions to be concealed behind walls until the space they occupy is needed. A good bit of Cranium Command still exists behind a wall in the old Wonders of Life pavilion.

See Superstar Limo at DCA turning into Monsters Inc. That was literally just a re-skinning of most of (all of?) the AAs and sets. Other times parts are covered up/walled off (see the turntable at Imagination or Imageworks upstairs) or re-used (alot of the America Sings AAs went into DLR Splash Mountain). And then still other times it's all gutted (WoM into Test Track).

At least one them can be loaded onto a trailer for event dressing as needed. It's shown up at a few runDisney events, and I think there pictures floating around of a private event that had used it as well.

That one was one of the three I had in my brain. The other two are at the bottom of the snorkeling lagoon at Castaway Cay.

@marni1971 Along the same lines, does Disney have a robust system for handling "archives" of old rides/tech/etc?

I ask because I'd be curious if they could theoretically rebuild something like Horizons. I know it would never happen, but curious to know how detailed their blueprints are for the smallest detail and if they even keep that stuff long term.

Footage wise I'm told their collection isn't huge for older attractions. Blueprints and technical manuals were produced for every detail, again I wouldn't know if they every kept them all; I do know their storage space is finite.

If they need blueprints or manuals I know where they could get a few :D

Was just going to say they could watch a few of your videos to jog their memory.

One more question...for something like Haunted Mansion, would even the ballroom scene's table have details on plate, chair, glass, silverware, etc placement? I believe that's how they "know" the hidden mickey plates is not an "official" hidden Mickey. It wasn't in the original plans and a cast member did it.

BTW, great job on the recent Horizons tribute...I've watched it twice. Amazing!
