I hate hills. Hate is too light of a word. It's why there are many races that I have no interest in ever participating in.
Here's the course of the only one I've ever done. Did I mention that I HATE hills? Luckily they're in the beginning of the course. But omg they suck. Other races in driving distance have much worse hills, which is again, why I would never do one.lol

I'm really interested in the Disney one. It sounds like so much fun and would be a great ✔ in life. I just don't know if I want to spend a vacation following such a strict schedule..don't know if I would be able to go to sleep early evening while at WDW. I'm definitely intrigued though. Do a lot of people stop along the way to meet characters? The photos look so neat, but does that throw off your pace?

Yes...and it can.

You've run...you know that excitement and adrenaline provide energy (along with pre-workout!). Yes, I would suggest being in bed no later than 9. May not be able to sleep all 5-6 hours...the important thing is to rest and hydrate and have fueled the day before. Shower, lay out your running gear, pin your bib on your shirt and think about what snack you might want to grab when you wake up the night before. I'd plan on getting up an hour before buses start running.

If you don't like hills, then run just the 5k...they are run just around/through Epcot. The only "hill" will be the bridge between France and England.

I edited my comment and added to it the same time you were typing. If I did the half are there still after hours parties, etc?

Yes, for the W&D. Other races used to have a party over at Disney Springs - Princess had something last year, but not this year.

Is that what it's going to take to get you to run in the W&D? The After Party? ;)

Listen, if I'm running on vacation, especially 13.1 or 26.2, I want the full experience. Yes- an after party as well! Lol

I'm trying to google a course map, with the elevation, for the Disney marathon, or even a half, does anyone have a photo?
Do the 13.1 peeps get to do the after hours festivities, or only the full participants?

I've never seen a route map with elevation. In Epcot, you'll run across the bridge between France and England and that bridge at the International Gateway, across main Disney roads and bridges, and whatever inclines exist in parks. It's not like running Boston or NYC....

Edit: I wish my autocorrect would stayed turned off when I turn it off...

Only Marathon weekend in January has a full marathon. Next year is the 25th anniversary...sure you want to make that your first Disney race?

Way back when there was an admission charge to Pleasure Island they used to include free entry and have an actual post race party. In 2010, they re-opened DHS after closing to runners only, but it was 28 degrees and not a lot of people went (which was okay because we rode TOT about a dozen times). I think the low turnout and having to staff that type of event wasn't worth it. Then they tried Marathon Monday where runners got free entry to MK on Monday, but then the park got too crowded. Even the W&D after party took a hit after the weather delay and shortened course fiasco in 2015.

There have been some epic medals for the anniversary races - awesome Mickey spinner for the 20th! Can't wait to see what they do for 25.

However, the weather wasn't Disney's fault. Too bad that year was the last evening W&D Half. :(

True. But I'm trying to convince @21stamps to run in the W&D Half with me. Don't want to scare her off with talk of the full marathon - the 25th anniversary one - to be her first runDisney race.

We missed getting together over Thanksgiving for a drink (staying at same resort) ...and talking college football...

However, some people will argue the weather WAS Disney's fault and demand a refund. I love reading reviews on travel sites - some person actually gave Polynesian 1 star because it rained their whole trip and went on and on about how the weather ruined their trip and they'd never go back to WDW...or the person who trashed Jambo House because they couldn't pet the giraffes from their balcony and their kids were so upset it ruined their whole trip.

Anyway, someone posted in the runDisney forums that it was mentioned at the DLP Expo a night race was returning to WDW. Hoping it's the "Dark Side."

That was me! Not the complaining guests....

Someone who participated in the inaugural DLP Half mentioned that in their race report. We're all hoping that means a night race in DAK or DHS, to make up for the loss of the ToT and Everest races.

Lol. It would be a great "first" and last. Ha ha.

So is there a true post race party now? Or does everyone just disperse and burn their adrenaline off on their own? I love the comradery and vibe of after parties.

I may be in for the W&D half. Ugh..I would only have 3 days on those dates and 2 would be taken up by the race.

There's no way I could the 25th. I can't train in the fall..way too busy with kiddo's sports and we have a cruise in November/December. I'm not spending my cruise watching what I eat and running 8-11 miles daily!!!!

Yes, there's a true After Race Party for the W&D in November. We get WS all to ourselves.

So, you're getting close to committing to W&D? *thumps up*

There's no training plan I've seen that requires you to run 8-11 miles daily. It would be the least successful training program ever!

Close..not all the way there yet.lol

When I train for our full I alternate short and long..long in the second half of training. As in 11 miles. When I do hill training I mostly do 3, but have one 8 mile in there.

I hate those types of guests. I live in Florida. Our first visit to WDW was in August. You'd think I'd know how hot August is.... hated the trip because of the heat. But was my fault, not Disney's...

I understand....

My training program gradually increases distance over the 19 weeks. Have a 12.5 mile training run next Sunday. And a 14 miler two weeks before the Princess.

Is it bad that I pick the majority of my races based on the theme and post race parties? Ha ha.

The only one where that doesn't apply is a thanksgiving morning 5k that my company sponsors a few of us to do. It's a great cause, and a good fun group of people.

Who has experience with a pacemaker in the Disney Parks ? I will be going in June 2017 and I have gotten a pacemaker since my last visit in 2010. I am 42 years old, very active. My doctor told me NO THRILL rides, ONLY slow moving rides like It's a Small World etc. Who has a pacemaker and what was your experience like in the park from arriving to leaving ?

Did you ride the monorail ? Have any issues ?
What rides did you ride ? Have any issues ?

I have a single lead pacer implanted and just wanted feedback from guest with similar issues/concerns.

Thanks
Michael

I'll think of your run while I'm drinking my coffee in my pjs. Ha ha. Jk. That's awesome!
