A Twist In Time

So, can we expand onto parking lots and other areas, or must we stay in the current grassy boundary? Also, would an unrealistic theme, like The Slums of Brasil, have points deducted for or not. PS I am not considering the slums of Brasil, it is just an example.
You may expand anything you want, but you must use the current setup for the Mermaid wing as those buildings already existed before.

Yes because who would want to stay in the the Slums of Brazil? :hilarious::p;)
Well technically no, I guess what I mean is how immersive the resort makes you feel. If the buildings are perfectly themed to lets say the mighty nation of Sealand, and recreates the architectural feel of said country then sadly it would be unrealistic. However if it were to be like big sculptures, murals on the buildings, themed railings like at the current values thereby invoking but not recreating the theme.

Therefore if you recreate a forest resort by making the buildings lodges, it would be too themed. However if it were pine metal mesh cutouts decorating the sides of buildings or a mural decorating the building then it would be invoking the theme.

The only requirements are keeping the location, the layout for the Mermaid wing, and types of rooms currently present at Art of Animation.
Tcool, could you just elaborate on this a little bit?

For the layout of the Mermaid wing, by keeping it the same, does that include everything from the pool shape, to the pathways? Essentially everything needs to be the same (except for I'm assuming the theme is up for grabs to be changed?)

Also for the types of rooms, can we increase or decrease the number of certain room types...like for instance, more family style rooms? Or does the occupancy of the resort have to stay the same?

Thank you! :)

Sorry meant the buildings, the layout for the buildings in the Mermaid Wing can not be tampered with.

You may do whatever you wish with the amount of the rooms, you just need to keep the same types of the room. You could include 1 family style, and then the rest regular rooms and it'll be fine.

Guests enter through a porte cochère where luggage services CMs will happily take your bags while you go and park your car in designated Check In parking. You notice that this building has an extensive bus terminal as well as a blue wavy design decorating its exterior, similar to the one below.
image.jpeg
Guests can enter through one of three front facing entrances, into the large building home to the main amenities of this resort, called "The Grotto". The Grotto is home to registration and concierege, which features woodplank desks akin to driftwood, and similar flowing designs to those seen on the buildings exterior. In addition, quests can find the resorts only food court style restaurant, "The Living Seas". The living seas features artwork in tribute of the original EPCOT pavillion as well as seafood, oriental cuisine, and standard american favorites. Next to The Living Seas is the Current Trends stkre, where guests are surrounded by modern shelves, and an occasionaly flurry of bubbles brought about by Cast Members. The last amenity within the Grotto is the Aqua-Cade, where kids can go and play some lf the newest arcade games. After your registration, you are told that you have been put in an UP suite in Building 8 with a grotto view. Slightly confused you exit the grotto and decide to tour the resort while you wait for your luggage to arrive. As you exit the grotto, you enter right into a styilized Bayou from The Princess and the Frog.
image.jpeg

Large Murals of Bayou Tree silouhettes line the inside of the large buildings of the princess and the frog buildings. In the center of this area, one of the largest pools, The Bayou Pool, on property can be found, with a lilypad in the center with Tiana and Louis in Frog Form. Sawgrass and Jazz music plays in the background as you slowly make your way around this pool. On the far end of the pool, Mama Odie can be seen in her treehouse above Mama Odie's Splash (Lily)Pad. This circular area features leaking bottles in the Treehouse (which is inaccessible) and spouting fountains. At night, the splash pad comes to life as the fountains have led lighting that color them, as well as glowing effects that are in the overflowing bottles. At the main entrace to the right building, a life size statue of Louis from The Princess and the Frog stands with his trumpet in hand. On the other side, Dr. Facilier stands atop a small wooden platform with his glowing charm in hand. As You turn around the building to the right, you ntice that the backside of the buildings are a large wavy design with blue designs that mae the outlines of characters from the franchises their buildings represent. An example of Louis the Alligator's Outline is below. The inside of the Princess and the Frog buildings, family suites are comprised of a unique design. The Fold Table has a design of Louis on it. The shower curtains, and all other decorations are mainly based on the moss and vines of the bayou. The carpet is comprised of Lily Pads.
image.jpeg
As you round the corner, you see the Snuggly Duckling in painted mural form, with statues of Hookhand, Ulf, and Vladimir. Under a green skybridge (Which are linking the Tangled Towers) You enter a stone enclave full of waterfalls spilling over the top of the buildings, and Rapunzel's Tower in the center surrounded by a moat pool called the "Tower Pool". Hanging out the window of the tower, a long bunch of plastic hair dangles, with Pascal clinging onto it, and occasionaly spitting at pool goers. At night, her hair glows with a brilliant fiber optic effect, as an instrumental version of "Power Gleam and Glow" erupts from the top of the tower. Flynn sits atop Maximus in front of an elegantly painted front on the stone cliff murals. On the otherside, Mother Gothel, stands alongside the Stabbington brothers in front of one of three waterfalls coming off the tops lf the buildings. Any rooms with a waterfall partially obscuring the view are deemed Grotto Views and are treated as the equivalent of a Pool View in pricing. As you pass under the skybridge on the other end, you discover that you remain in the world of Tangled, as you enter Corona.
image.jpeg
The back building is painted with a mural of Corona castle, with a balcony featuring a regally dressed Rapunzel and Flynn. On the right hand building, a mural of the waterworks used, extends out as water troughs come out of the building and create a memorable water feature. The left building is covered in village store fronts. Carts decorate the front region of this building.
image.jpeg
You go around the building to see Hourglass Lake. You continue to walk back through the Bayou, and then enter the canyon of the falls featuring UP and Pochahontas. You continue forward and look to you left. The Pocahontas area is seen on the left. A large waterfall, as seen in Just around the ruverbed can be seen. At the foot of the falls, Pocahontas and Meeko in their canoe can be seen. The buildings are painted like forests. In the small courtyard, Grandmother Willow's Mystical Camp is a childrens play area featuring TeePees, hanging vines, as well as a small fort structure for children to run around and have fun. On the other side, the cliffs and Jungles of Paradise Falls are painted onto the UP Wing. A large Waterfall recreating Paradise Falls can be found pouring iver the building. You then realize, your room is under Paradise Falls! At the base of the falls in a small patch of Jungle, Kevin, Carl, Russel, and Dug can be found in a photo opportunity.
image.jpeg
image.jpeg
Knowing you have found your room, you decide to continue and see the last section of the resort, The Jungle Book. After passing an asortment of Palmtrees, a fork presents itself. To the right, a path to the quiet pool, deemed the Oasis Pool, can be found that overlooks Hourglass lake. To the right, the main courtyard. You proceed into the main courtyard and notice three themed buildings, to the left is the Shere Khan building, to the Left is Kaa, and straight ahead is King Louie. In Kaa's building, all of the railings are ensnared in Kaa's coils which all conect to his front in a tree positioned front and center. Shere Khan is perched on a cliff in front of his building, while a vine design covers the rails. Lastly King Louie's building has the background of a temple with King Louie perched on a ruin. The railings are covered in dancing monkeys. As you continue into the courtyard, you notice a forested area in the center. You continue to see a oaradise with a small main pool and a lazy river that circles and island. This island, Baloo's Splash and Stomp, has numerous interactive water features. The pool and lazy river are named the "Necesity River Pool" which allow guests to float down a river like Baloo. In a sanctioned of part of the river, a water feature with Mowgli riding on Baloo, as Baloo squirts water out of his mouth.
image.jpeg

NOTE: To reduce redundantness, the Baloo and Mowgli figures at Pop Century will be retired in favor of a statue of a Mary Poppins Penguin.
Disney's Waters of the World Resort will bring a new Value-Value+ Resort to Walt Disney World Resort that is sure to please all guests.

Return to 2016:
The Corona Castle Section has been reimagined into Arendale Courtyard. The Castle and murals are repainted, and characters have been replaced. Multiple Magicband moments have been added throughout the resort, such as a magc sunburst on Tangled Tower, and a magical band of fireflies light up the bayou and could even spell a guests name. The food court ha sbeen remastered to eliminate seafood. The bus stop recieved extra decor.

Disney's Hasbro Games Resort
Screen Shot 2016-10-10 at 1.17.24 PM.png

Overview

This resort will feature wings in a very similar order to the originally planned Art of Animation Resort. The Only Difference in layout is that the plans for the Cars wing have become modified into one large building with three hallways. The four wings of the resort are themed to Monopoly, Clue, Battleship, and Candyland. There is also Gaming HQ, which will feature a quick service dining, board game lounge, and a Disney merchandise shop.

Gaming HQ
hasbro-familygamenight.03.lg.jpg

The lobby is the first thing one sees when they walk in and thus has references to many Hasbro games and toy. For example, Risk arrows line the floor to direct guest to the front desk, the game room, and the door to the rooms. All of the signs are adorned with large Scrabble tiles. Some of the walls feature (mostly fake) Jenga bricks (and some can even be pulled out). Next to the lobby is the game rooms.
2544638604f0bd9e0329800f59b6e703.jpg

Next to the lobby is the board game room. This room has 20 tables set up with various games available for play including (but not limited to) Risk, Battleship, Monopoly, Candyland, Clue, Jenga, Connect 4, Scrabble, Operation, and Shutes and Ladders. The walls and ceiling of this room are similar to that of Toy Story Mania's.
Finally, there is Giggle's, a quick service restaurant, and The bank, a merchandise shop, both with an atmosphere similar to those presented above.

Monopoly City
dsc_0043.jpg

The Monopoly section of this resort will feature a mural of a downtown city with a large skyline, similar to that of New York. This section of the resort will feature the largest pool, as the property shown here is the most recognizable to American Pop Culture. The pool (though called New York pool in the map) is called the Million Dollar Pool and features a slide, with pictures of money on the slide. The Downtown Splash Zone, is similar to a smaller version of Fort MacKenzie at the Great Wolf Lodge, except (of course) features (fake) steel rather than wood, to give it the theme of a construction site. A giant statue of the monopoly man stands at the center of this complex. This area features all family style rooms.

(Fort MacKenzie)

Clue Manor
clue%20index2.jpg

The Clue section of this resort features the foyer and then three long hallways, in a triangular shape. There will be a courtyard in the center of this section. All rooms here will be family style. In the hallways of this section the lights occasional flicker. The entry foyer will be similar to this (except dark green rather than red):
Haunted-Mansion-Foyer-Scenic-Backdrop.jpg

Candyland
c6dda9195a858348b1f0eb24442946f7.jpg

The Candyland Section of this resort uses murals of Candyland on the walls of the hotel. Chocolate Mountains, Candy Cane Forests, Milk Rivers can be seen on the wall. The pathways in this section are colorful, like the tiles from the board game. In the center of this area, the Candy Cane forest playground is constructed, and features slides, tunnels, and swings, all (of course) themed to candy. Around this area, statues of different candy objects appear, such as the iconic castle (created with forced perspective), a gingerbread house, and a “milk” river with a graham cracker bridge. (Three years after the release of Wreck-It Ralph, some Sugar Rush character statues will be added.) On the bottom floor of building 6, a candy store called the Candyland Confectionary will be added.
lowerlevel.jpg

This area features all family style rooms, which are more oriented towards females due to the amount of pink in the rooms.

Battleship
Kids%2BRoom%2BNautical%2BThemed%2BInterior.jpg

The Battleship section of this resort has statues of the top of the ocean with nondescript, gray ships being on top of each of the three buildings. This area features a large pool with two gray ships on either side (one of which can be climbed through like the New York section, while the other features a slide into the main pool). Around the area, large, white pegs can be seen in the various waterways and ground. There is one, small playground inside of a ship that is “pegged.” This area features studio rooms with boat beds (that are less confining and grayer than the ones shown in the above picture.

Authors notes
"You're not supposed to feel like your in a WWI battle, you're supposed to feel like you're in a game simulating WWI." This resort (I feel) stays truee to the ideology of that of a value resort, while also providing a unique concept never before used.

Challenge 3 - The Art of the Resorts

Prologue

In 2010, at the start of a new decade, Team Disney Orlando is looking to invest in the almost decade long abandoned project of the yester-years across from the Pop Century Resort. However, rather than simply go with the past, why not look into the past, and use the past to propel you into the future!

At Disney, inspiration can come from a variety of areas, and some from even their past endeavors. One idea in particular that still resonates in the Disney community today is the concepts that reign in classics such as the Carousel of Progress, and extinct attractions such as Horizons at Epcot. What these have in common is a core value of Walt Disney World, in that - if you can dream it, you can do it.

As Disney's Pop Century Resort represents the greatest hits from the 50s-90s, its sister resort across the Hourglass Lake will look not towards the past...but towards the great big beautiful tomorrow, just a dream away!

Inspired by innovation, future living, and the promise of tomorrow - opening in 2012 across from Disney's Pop Century Resort will be....

(Lobby Sample Music Loop - see later on)

Resort Introduction
Have you ever looked beyond today, into the future? Disney's Dream Village Resort evokes the childlike sense of wonderment and awe at what the future can hold - a new horizons for you and me. Contrasting the themes of Pop Century, Dream Village chronicles the quest for a better tomorrow. From its architectural design to its color pallets and thematic locations, the resort depicts life in the future, utilizing an eclectic display of artistic prowess and engineering marvels.

You are transported to the world of tomorrow as soon as you arrive on property, as the lush Perfect Park Acres of land beckons you to the main entrance. The clean green space as you approach gives you a sense of environmental efforts and a beautiful surrounding which represents the "opening act" of the resort's story.

Resort Map Overview
29642802964_ebae60696b_b.jpg

Map - Key
1 - Brava Centauri
2 - Mesa Verde
3 - Alpha Centauri
4 - Sea Base Castle
5/6 - FuturePort and Transportation Hubs

In order create a mirror image of the past (Pop Century) and the future (Dream Village), across the Hourglass Lake, the design of the buildings and main hall are roughly symmetrical. When looking at the two resorts from above, their parallel designs add to their symmetry of past and future themes.

This story aspect and thematic relevance gives them a better connection and unity, rather than having two completely different themes (in Pop Century and Art of Animation) as it is today. The connection in theme gives it relevance and places it alongside other dual Disney resort themes such as the Yacht and Beach Club, Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside, the Swan and Dolphin, All-Star Resorts, etc.

The map depicts the varied locations in the resort. Inspired by the extinct Epcot attraction, Horizons, you and your family can stay in one of 3 distinct landscapes of the future.
retro-horizons-posters.jpeg

Mesa Verde - the most advanced desert reclamation complex in the western hemisphere, invites you to explore its wide range of possibilities.

Brava Centauri - newest of the Centauri series of space stations offers remarkably rewarding opportunities in earth support locations. Alpha Centauri, the original Centauri station, is also available to guests where they can work, live, and play, together.

Sea Castle - the newest and most exciting floating city in the Pacific, invites you and your family to come away with us to the sea.

FuturePort Lobby Description
30011555810_f736aa7088_b.jpg

As you pull up to the unload area of the resort, you enter below a chrome overhang, and disembark either your Magical Express bus, or your vehicle. Walking inside the lobby area, your first instinct is to notice the neon boarder design of the automatic doors as you enter, almost as if you're "transported" inside the lobby. In addition, a keen ear will notice the uplifting background instrumental music loop which includes a variety of classic Epcot songs along with a rendition of "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow", along with other varied soundtracks to add to the positive vibes entering the resort.

The one floor lobby is wide and indented with curvatures as you wave down the check-in desks. The neon boarders continue from the entrance, and the check-in pods illuminate in a variety of reds, purples, and blue colors, adding to the ambiance.

On the wall to the right, chronicles world progress since the turn of the century (1900) - as a subtle easter egg to the yester-years project, and continuing into the 1950s-1990s, as a direct correlation to Pop Century. However, the progress doesn't stop in 2012. It continues on into the 2050s and beyond, before ultimately ending on canvases of the three locations that you can stay in at Dream Village.

Painted canvases of Brava/Alpha Centauri, Mesa Verde, and Sea Castle Base line the posterior end of the lobby. As another easter egg, adding to the decor behind the check-in desk to the left, a FuturePort transportation sign is posted, depicting the futuristic travel arrangements to get to the destinations around the resort.

futureport.gif

On the background music soundtrack itself, some of the songs are interrupted with travel announcements to make the guests feel as if they are actually in a future transportation hub in the lobby.

Lastly, as you check in, kids have an "edutainment" area in the lobby. A television plays a loop of different "future" areas of the world, such as floating cities, soaring skyscrapers, and more. The interactive area has games as well, such as a digital game where kids can design building and vehicles of the future. Once you are checked in, you can proceed out to the exit "checkpoints" and venture to your destination.

-- Resort Lobby Music Loop --
"If we can dream it, then we can do it" - from Horizons (5:00)
"There's a great big beautiful tomorrow" - Sherman Bros (2:37)
"Tomorrow's Child" - from Spaceship Earth (3:34)
"Horizons Exit Music" - from Horizons (17:00)
"Assorted Melodies" - from Epcot area music (15:00)

Brava and Alpha Centauri
airlockmodel.jpg

Approaching these space station themed wings of the Dream Village Resort, the story behind these resorts are that the Brava Centauri system has landed on a moon in a distant galaxy that contains water and vegetation. The Centauri stations land on the moons and develop a habitable zone of the moon for human living.

As you walk through the "moon" - dubbed MX32 - you notice the dense foliage surrounding you, and the pool area straight ahead. This is definitely a new horizon for you and for me. The rooms of Brava and Alpha Centauri are similar in that they have a sleek, futuristic design to them. Many of the rooms have contemporary furniture and color pallets to them, in addition to having state of the art technology as well. The themes translate to a modern design, as if you are on a space station in a distant world.

The main pool of the Centauri system is located in the center of the action - one of the largest pools on Disney Property, named Blue Horizons, this pool is for sure to be a family favorite for kids and adults. A great place to relax and enjoy life in another galaxy!

Mesa Verde
29677995504_8358f2cac7_b.jpg

The terrain and scenery is vastly different compared to the other locations in the Dream Village. The transition from rich vegetation to a desert of reclamation evolves as you continue to trek from the FuturePort.

As you continue on, painted on the buildings themselves, are landscapes of the mountainous desert, enveloping the guests in the environment. The biome of the desert surrounds you as you enter your buildings, which in the resort "story", are part of an experimental living quarter in the vast earth desert, pushing the boundaries of ecological living. As you trek through the newfound vegetation of the Mesa Verde desert, you pass hovercrafts and lined greenery in the heart of the sandy desert landscape.

The rooms themselves are themed to the surroundings. Rich brown textures, along with oranges and reds, create the desert atmosphere within the rooms. Mesa Verde's beautiful designs shine through into the rooms. The pool area is themed to a "hot spring" in the desert, (minus a sulfur smell thank goodness), but is surrounded by plants and vegetation you'd most likely find in a desert.

Sea Castle Base
30193411532_73293cc3c0_b.jpg

Shifting to the original building complex from the yester-years project that never was, we turn west towards Sea Castle Base - an "underwater" oceanic paradise. Blue and sea green color pallets line the buildings evoking the sense that you are on the ocean floor, with sand, seaweed, and other aquatic plants lining the exterior. As you meander up towards your "castles" - the outer balconies of your rooms are themed like reinforced ocean liners at the bottom of the sea that have been converted into an underwater habitable environment.

The rooms themselves are nautically themed, along with a contemporary flair. The color pallets of blue and sea green eminent throughout the decor, and the modern infused styling of the the carpets, beds, sofas, and bathrooms are seen as well. The lighting in the the room is reminiscent of coral plants at the bottom of the sea, and each room is equipped with dimmers in them as well, to create a relaxing atmosphere in your rooms.

The quiet pool area is also accessible to all in the center of the Sea Castle Base complex, offering a quaint place of calm and quiet on your WDW vacation.

Room Types and Rates

Designed on a much more grand scale than most child care centers, SkyZone is Dream Village's "KidZone" essentially - while not pandering to the "go-to" kid-friendly Disney animation, this area is distinctly Disney without relying on an IP to push it forward. Kids will have a blast creating their own stories and interacting with others throughout their stay.

Conclusion
The elements of "time" and mirroring a theme of "past living" (Pop Century) with the theme of "future living" (Dream Village) was an integral part in the selection of this resort.

Rather than enable more IPs that already populate the parks enough, building off of Pop Century and creating a resort across the Hourglass Lake based on the future seemed like the best choice. It takes influence from some of Disney's most classic themes and beloved attractions, and builds off of those narratives for a new generation to enjoy. It offers an opportunity for the guests as well, to create their own memories and their own narratives to their surroundings, rather than have them labelled already for them upon arrival. Disney's Dream Village will be something unique for the Walt Disney World Resort, and a refreshing blend of the idealistic thinking enabled by Walt Disney himself, as well as the quintessential "Disney" resort feel that makes staying on property so special.

Just writing the intro out for now, more to come :)

TheOriginalTiki Presents
Disney's Saturday Afternoon Value Resort!

Coming soon to Walt Disney World...You loved the great prices of the Pop Century resorts, you marveled at the giant sculptures of characters on display in the Art of Animation Resort...now, be prepared to be fed a giant dose of nostalgia as Disney opens up its latest value resort...Disney's Saturday Afternoon Resort!

"Saturday Afternoon" is simply a combination of the two most iconic animation line-ups on TV to have featured Disney shows, those of course being "Disney Afternoons" (DuckTales, Gummi Bears, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Talespin, Bonkers etc.) and the more recent "Disney's One Saturday Morning on ABC" (Recess, Pepper Ann, Teacher's Pet, House of Mouse etc.)

Disney animated series have been a small but important part of the company over the last two decades, establishing a large lineup of memorable original characters and locations that, while not big enough to warrant full blown theme park attractions (I'm looking at you, Gadget's Go-Coaster ;) :p ) certainly would fit right at home in a resort built around them.

This will be the largest Disney Value resort to date, encompassing two high rise towers, two pools, and more. The two towers will "McDuck Heights" (themed around DuckTales/Disney Afternoons) and King Bob's Domain...named after the monarchic 5th grader who rules over the "Recess" playground and featuring One Saturday Morning characters within the decor.

Welcome to Disney's Animation Resort!

Here's a map to help you get familiar with your surroundings.

The main common area includes a cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, a gift shop, which also sells groceries and hygienic products, a guest lounge, and a small fitness center. There is also a bike rental facility. All under one roof! Plus, a single bus stop serving as the gateway to Walt Disney World's four theme parks, two water parks, and Downtown Disney!

Each of the four themed areas of the resort features 400 guest rooms. Rooms are available in deluxe studio (sleeps up to 4), single bedroom (sleeps up to 5), and two bedroom (sleeps up to 6). All children 12 and under receive a complementary plush toy and collectible pin.

Ariel's Landing features colorful and rustic beachside style rooms with an inherently nautical theme.

Everything here has seashells, the soap, the towels, the coasters, even the door ornaments that display each room number. Original art featuring characters from The Little Mermaid was created exclusively for the resort, and adorns the living quarters of each room.

Near the coastline sits a shipwreck scene, complete with various thingamabobs from Ariel's collection.

Pinocchio's Village glistens with quaint German architecture, while Rapunzel's Kingdom takes on the warmth of a Bavarian town.

Both areas feature vaulted ceilings, and spiraling towers that look as if they had existed here for centuries.

As with Ariel's Landing, original art created exclusively for the resort is featured prominently throughout the living quarters of Pinocchio's Village as well as Rapunzel's Kingdom.

The wooded areas outside are adorned with "wanted" posters featuring characters from Tangled.

Finally, enjoy all the neon-clad art deco Radiator Springs has to offer at the delightfully charming Cozy Cone.

Thirty foot orange cones anchor this resort, which features rock-work akin to the southwestern United States, and is decorated liberally with bright neon lights, and signage recycled from the auto industry. The door ornaments here are in the shape of wrenches, tires, and car faces.

Each area of the Animation Resort features its own unique recreational opportunities.

Ariel's Landing features an aquatic playground and small splash pool.

Joining Pinocchio's Village and Rapunzel's Kingdom is a mammoth wooden playstructure complete with bridges, tunnels, swings, and towers.

At dusk, the courtyard outside the Cozy Cone comes alive. In a new take on a Disney classic dining experience, the Sci-Fi Drive In Diner, enjoy a family meal from the comfort of a vehicle styled after the stars of the Disney-Pixar smash it Cars franchise! Ariel, Rapunzel, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Sully, Mike Wozowski, Mulan and Pocahontas join in on the fun, while Pixar short films and sneak previews of upcoming Disney and Pixar films are shown on a giant screen.

This Disney dining experience is an additional $39 per guest, $29 for children 12 and under, and is available exclusively for guests staying on Walt Disney World property.

NOTE:

Okay, so somehow or another, I did not realize there was a Cars section at Art of Animation as it exists in our timeline. It's my fault for not doing the research. I have been so overwhelmed with so many projects this week, I really didn't have time to do anything but throw this together.

I wanted to do full original renderings of what each building and basic room might look like, but simply did not have the time to do so on six days notice.

I tried to make this as spectacular of a guest experience as possible while remaining within the confines of a "Value Resort." The biggest key for me regarding this stipulation is that the room sizes offered are the smallest on Disney property, and the room quality is on the low end, featuring few amenities.

That said, I still wanted the Disney magic to prominent throughout, both in terms of service, and theme, as well as recreation options available. Every Disney Resort should feel like a Disney Resort, including the most affordable ones.

Introducing...

Overview

Greetings fellow space travelers! Walt Disney World would like to introduce the brand new Space Port Resort: A place where you can journey around the solar system and learn about your place in the universe!

Solar-System.jpg

Each part of the resort has been strategically placed to represent our solar system. The main lobby is the main hub, also called the "Space Station", where you can fuel your ships with food, shop for gifts for your earthlings, and play some space games! Each building represents the various planets and satellites in our solar system; they also go in order.

1= Mercury
2= Venus
3= Earth
4= Mars
5= Jupiter
6= Europa (one of Jupiter's moons)
7= Saturn
8= Uranus
9= Neptune
10= Pluto (the beloved and lost planet)

Mars and Jupiter are separated by the "Asteroid Belt Pool", which is symbolic of the asteroid belt in our solar system that separates those two planets. The various names throughout the "Asteroid Belt" section (e.g. Ceres, Pallas, Vesta) is named after some of the largest asteroids in the asteroid belt.

Journey around the resort to learn about each planet! Each building will have facts on the outside of the building (E.g. size, closeness to the sun, average temperature, what a 150 lb. person on Earth would weigh on that planet, an average year).

Resort Map

Space Station

The Space Station will be based off of Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century (My favourite Disney Channel Original Movie growing up). The lobby's décor will be metallic and futuristic.

th

ZSta2.jpg

Along the main lobby walls (where you check in/out), there will be various artifacts of trips to space; similar to the various pieces that are on Pop Century's walls. These artifacts will include: copies of newspapers from the first landing on the moon, newspapers from Apollo missions, pictures from the Hubble Space Telescope, astronaut clothing, etc.). Over the main desk section, there will be the most updated pictures of the planets (just recently taken in the past year of so).

The Galactic Gift Station will have a nice assortment of many different Walt Disney World apparel and objects. There will also be t-shirts, pins, mugs, etc. of the resort hotel logo. In addition, anything related to space will also be sold in the shop (Stitch, Buzz Lightyear, Wall-e/Eve, Race to Witch Mountain). The gift shop will also include amazing Freeze Dried Ice Cream, just like what the astronauts in NASA eat!

The Milky Way Eatery will look similar to the eatery within Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century

hqdefault.jpg

rashid-white-chairs.jpg

The food court will serve generic food similar to the All-Star Resorts (pizza, burgers, quesadillas, stir fry, sandwiches, omelets, waffles), but will also have rarer space-themed foods only available at the resort:

You can also visit the "Space Ranger Arcade" to play some fun arcade games, specifically geared towards space games!

luna-city-arcade.jpg

Space-Invaders.jpg

Inner Planets

In the Inner Planets we have Mercury, Venus, and Earth. We also have the Half Moon Pool

The inner planet rooms will have the same generic feel for the entire "Inner Planet" Section. Since the planets are close to the sun, the décor will be with warmer colors, like Red, Yellow, Orange, etc. There will be a futuristic hotel design that has a large, realisitc picture of the chosen planet in the room. In addition, there will be pictures of various Disney characters in astronaut apparel (e.g. Mickey, Pluto, Donald), as well as famous characters like Buzz, Wall-e, and Stitch.

The Half Moon Pool is a half circle pool (renovated) and represents the Earth's moon. There will be a Buzz Lightyear and the aliens statue shooting water in the middle of the pool.

Asteroid Belt

In the Asteroid Belt, we have Mars and Jupiter. We also have Ceres' Pool Bar, Asteroid Belt Pool, Vesta's Sprayground, and Pallas Playground.

The Asteroid Belt will have the same room layout as the Inner Planets, however the theme will be aimed towards the Asteroid Belt and therefore incorporate more asteroids, satellites, comets, etc. The Mars rooms will have Rover associations. The colours will lean towards darker, Earthy colours, like dark red, maroon, brown, red, yellow.

The Ceres Pool Bar will have the generic alcoholic beverages sold in all the places in WDW, but will add in some exclusive drinks only sold there:

5627352da38f1d25f599432d9e389720.jpg

Walking on the Moon: grenadine, blue coracao, Smirnoff vodka

The Asteroid Belt Pool will feature a lot of asteroids and in the middle will be a statue of Stitch and his alien friend (the big, blue dude)

Vista's Spray Ground will have various colored asteroid lumps with fountains spraying out with it. In addition, there will be statues of Wall-e and Eve throughout it.

Pallas Playground will be a normal playground with a small rock climbing wall up to the slide (in addition to stairs) and rockets.

01-Space-Playground.jpg

Solar Satellites

In the Solar Satellites, we have Europa and Pluto (because it's no longer a planet :(). We also have Comet's Place.

The Solar Planets will have the same room layout as the Inner Planets and the Asteroid belt, however the theme will be aimed towards the Solar Satellites and therefore incorporate more moons, larger planet-like asteroids, galaxies, etc. The colours will be purples, indigo, dark blue, lighter yellows.

Comet's Place will be an outdoor obstacle course with various play rocks where kids can play around. They will be shaped like comets and asteroids.

Outer Planets

In the Outer Planets, we have Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. We also have Planetary Rings Pool (to allude to both Saturn and Uranus's rings)

The Outer Planets will have the same room layout as the Inner Planets, Asteroid Belt, and Solar Satellites, however the theme will be aimed towards the Outer Planets and therefore incorporate more planets with rings, comets, stars, etc. The colours will lean towards bright colours, like blues, yellows, pastels, etc.

The Planetary Rings Pool is a pool commemorating the rings of planets Saturn and Uranus. Fountains will shoot across one side of the pool to the other (doable since it's smaller) and will emulate the rings of a planet.

Creator's Notes

I thought it would be best to create an educational, yet imagination-oriented design for this hotel. I tried to think back about what I wanted to experience as a child and that was travelling to space. I thought this was creative because it incorporated multiple park experiences (MK's Tomorrowland, Epcot's Mission:Space, DHS's Star Tours) and brought something new to the table. Not to mention there is room to expand if Disney happens to purchase a worthwhile film industry in the near future...

I'm starting over using the same theme after doing some more research on the resort's layout.

The Art of Animation Resort had been planned to open throughout the late 2000's, but a series of delays kept that from happening. While the delays happened though, parts of the resort did get the green light for construction and actually completed. By the time this happened though, the powers that be decided to go for a new direction for the value resort...And thus "Disney's Saturday Afternoon" Resort was born into an era that was already being fueled by the nostalgia of the past!

That is the big drive of Disney's Saturday Afternoon...Nostalgia! It's named after the two most iconic programming blocks that have featured all original Disney cartoons..."The Disney Afternoon" and "Disney's One Saturday Morning". Two shows from each of these programming blocks would be selected to represent the golden late 80's to early 2000's era of children's programming.

For One Saturday Morning, the shows Recess and Kim Possible were easy selections. Recess has a large following and fan-base and spawned a theatrical film. Kim Possible is a very well known property in its own right even outside of the TV demographic. Recess would have a more laid back feel while Kim Possible would be made a bit more action heavy!

For the Disney Afternoon selections, there were two choices that were basically locked in. For one, DuckTales has become by far the most affectionately devoted fanbase of the all the Disney Afternoon offerings and the sense of adventure the series could bring to a resort. Lastly, the completed Little Mermaid wing of the previous Disney Animation Resort was slightly reworked to be based around the animated series adaptation of the classic film.

Without further adieu, let's take a look at Disney's Saturday Afternoon Resort

Arriving:

A giant TV and couch are the first things that greet you as you arrive in the resort's transportation hub right out front of the main lobby and check in area. The middle of the couch provides the doorway into the lobby while the TV above the couch plays a constantly rotating loop of different theme songs from various Disney Channel shows from the resort's two different represented lineups. Keep in mind this entryway merely serves as a facade for the rest of the resort which rests within a main "hub" like courtyard that gives guests easy access to the different wings.

On the walls of the resort's main entrance are giant portraits of the main characters featured in the different wings, mainly...

-Scrooge McDuck
-Launchpad McQuack
-Huey, Dewey, and Louie
-Ariel
-Flounder
-Urchin (Ariel's friend from the animated series)
-TJ/Vince
-Mikey/Gus
-Spinelli/Gretchen
-Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable
-Rufus the Naked Mole Rat

Check-In/Main Lobby

There's not much to explain here for those who have seen the main lobby of the what Disney wanted to do with the Art of Animation resort. All kinds of different sketches and conceptual art pieces of the different characters from the four series were about to explore are plastered all over the walls giving an overwhelming sense of stepping into an artists pallet. Another left over detail from the Art of Animation concepts is the check-in desk which is a long row of mini counters with lights above them illuminated in the form of a rainbow. It's important that every detail of the guest experience is memorable and unique starting from the moment they check in!

resort-check-in-desks-Disneys-Art-of-Animation-Resort-Walt-Disney-World.jpg

Also available off to the side is the Disney Afternoon Arcade where guests can play original arcade games developed by Capcom that mimic the style of iconic NES/SNES Capcom/Disney platformers such as "DuckTales", "Aladdin", and "The Lion King".

16d2a0544ae770beb7ff5a84bb95b21c.jpg

Another side area meant to amuse kids in case of long check in lines is a full replica of a typical 1990's suburban living room complete with a big couch, a series of beanbag chairs, and of course a TV playing all your favorite Disney Channel shows mixed in with a few classic Walt-era shorts thrown in here and there for good measure.

DuckTales Wing

The DuckTales wing will have suites themed to guest rooms within the McDuck mansion that come with various easter eggs such as kali baba's lamp from the DuckTales movie and the nephew's collection of comic books. The value rooms in this wing will be themed around the town of DuckBerg itself which will be represented in a mural along where the main value rooms are held.

latest

The DuckTales-themed pool will be arguably one of the most ambitious in Disney Resort history, creating a literal mountain of an icon as well as giving DuckTales fans a chance to live out one of their universal fantasies...Diving into Scrooge McDuck's money pit! That's right, this pool is all about the money pit which has been flooded, essentially turning it into a gold coin-laden pool complete with Scrooge's iconic diving board that's sure to be a favorite among pool patrons.

81084-Scrooge-mcduck-swimming-in-gol-ot63.gif

As you dive into this pool, you can see all the millions of gold coins from the McDuck fortune lined into the floor. The coins will be a very smooth surface to avoid any potential safety hazards. Stacks of coins will surface around the edges of the pool as well. While the money vault is a cool feature, what really makes this pool stand out is the slide that goes along with it...

Launchpad McQuack's Slide of Safety

60cd8c54f7460ffe2fb3e914d98a6c07.jpg

A 75 foot "Mt. McDuck" will be crafted onto the side of the pool in forced perspective 1/5th scale to make it appear larger than it is. Of course Scrooge being the egotist that he is has carved his likeness into the side of the mountain. One small problem...Launchpad McQuack has crashed his plane into the mountain's peak. An inflated slide hangs off the plane which leads to a flume-based water slide encircling the rest of the mountain. Essentially the theme of this slide is a makeshift safety precotion Launchpad has fashioned into the side of Mount McDuck...Of course with it being Launchpad things don't go too well leading to you falling off the side of the mountain from an unfinished piece of flume into the pool below (in a safe and isolated section away from the main crowds.)

Little Mermaid Wing
maxresdefault.jpg

As I said, this will remain largely unchanged except for the presence of Urchin who was a main character in "The Little Mermaid: The Animated Series". This was the first completed wing of the Art of Animation Resort so very little has to be done to it beings as though the IP already has a built in animated series that ran during The Disney Afternoon.

latest

Recess Wing

latest

This wing of the hotel will be themed entirely around the elementary school where the series takes place, with rooms made up to slightly resemble different classrooms. The main attraction here is King Bob's Castle, a multi-slide pool designed to resemble the famous playground lair of the monarchic ruler of the fifth grade.

latest

There's a ton of different characters as we walk through this near-perfect replica of the school including Spinelli intimidating the tattle-tale Randall, TJ and Vince playing basketball with each-other, Mikey lifting Gus into a tree to retrieve a lost cat, and many more such sight gags. "The Cafeteria" will offer a wide array of familiar schoolyard concoctions such as pizza, Frito Pie, jelly sandwiches, tater totts, sloppy joe's, and much more!

Kim Possible Wing

latest

This wing will replace what would have been the Cars section of the resort, with the cozy cone motel being replaced by a fully functioning Bueno Nacho. This is the one wing of the resort without a pool. Instead, walking through this wing will give you the feel of being in a Kim Possible episode, with different villains lurking behind rocks, Rufus pointing and encouraging us to travel to different destinations, and various hazardous looking traps from Dr. Draken.

latest

The House of Mouse

b1b31e6d8ae5b87b830089cea3568de2.jpg

In the middle of the resort's courtyard hub is a large, upscale dining experience designed to completely simulate a trip to the famous "House of Mouse". This will play host to both lavish character breakfasts and large scale dinner theater events. The menu is buffet style and represents what you'd find in an upscale Las Vegas style buffet for both breakfast and dinner. Of course the main draw is the characters which there are PLENTY of. Not only is there an onslaught of costumed cast members interacting with you spontaneously, there's also a stage that offers various forms of entertainment, from performances with the costumed characters to showcasing classic shorts like in the show to even larger scale Audio Animatronic-centric productions. It's all here at the House of Mouse!

And that concludes our tour of Disney's Saturday Afternoon Resort...A true example of Disney's tried and true practice of never letting go of a good idea even if that good idea warps into something else entirely!

Had this post saved as an for further elaboration for my project, though with lots of studying and other school work tonight I'm not sure how available I will be to finish it. For that reason, I'm going to post what I have now and hopefully return to finish it.

A Twist in Time Challenge 3

IDInstitute's Proposal: Disney's Echo of Hollywood Resort

Disney's Echo of Hollywood is a new value resort coming to Walt Disney World! In another new alternate universe, the Art of Animation hotel is never built, and instead, this concept is fulfilled instead! The hotel will include four differently (yet relatedly) themed wings. The theme of these wings will all follow the style of architecture of Hollywood Studios's beautiful Echo Lake.

Why Echo Lake as inspiration? With the hotel's close proximity to the park, I thought it would be a good choice to give the park its own resort (such as DAK has AKL, Magic Kingdom has the Seven Seas resorts, and while Epcot doesn't have Epcot-themed hotels, it has the Crescent Lake resort area near the International Gateway). Now, DHS gets its own hotel, with wonderful matching architecture!
(Of course, it won't be quite so highly themed as with the park's attention to detail, under challenge guidelines of keeping it a value, however it will still be sure to transport you and give you a great stay!)

Challenge 3 - The Art of the Resorts
A Singular Elimination Challenge

In 2012 a new value resort at Walt Disney World opened in our time line it was the Art of Animation Resort, but in this timeline that resort never happened . Your challenge is to build a new Value either retaining the current theme or a completely new theme. Just keep in mind the resort began construction in 2010 so any IPs used must have existed beforehand, that is if your using IPs. The only requirements are keeping the location, the layout for the Mermaid wing, and types of rooms currently present at Art of Animation. You may use as many pictures as wanted, and as many sentences as needed. You may also use a website if you wish.

Mesa Verde

SkyZone will be a state of the art child-care center that duals as both an Arcade and interactive child play area attached to the FuturePort. Themed to a space station docked to FuturePort, this child care area will be the most elaborate and fun area of the entire resort

Complete with 3D arcade games, virtual reality environments, building block centers, as well as the imfamous neon laser tag room themed to outer space - this will be an amazing place for kids to enjoy a night while their parents go out.

Bus-Transportation_Full_19287.jpg;width=624;height=420;mode=crop;quality=60;encoder=freeimage;progressive=true

Buses to the four parks, two water parks, and Disney Springs are located outside the front entrance of FuturePort. Shuttles run every 15-20 minutes to your destinations.

1= Mercury
2= Venus
3= Earth
4= Mars
5= Jupiter
6= Europa (one of Jupiter's moons)
7= Saturn
8= Uranus
9= Neptune

The lobby's décor will be metallic and futuristic.

th

@tcool123, Just a reminder that you have to click on the resort map link. It doesn't want to show up on my post, but it will show up when you click the link! :)
