Caribbean Beach; TV/WiFi/Amazon Fire Stick

We are staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort in October, just looking for advice on what the TVs and WiFi are like there..

Requirements to use the stick are an HDTV with an HDMI slot. Ideally WiFi should be at least 3Mbps.... I know that WiFi speed is typically not great in hotels so just looking for comments from those that have stayed at this hotel recently.

Thanks!

Do you spend zero time in your room???

DH watches tv as he falls asleep. We would also both watch a few shows while the kiddo napped in the room.
We spend a lot of time at the resort, but very little watching TV. Of course, we don't have young kids anymore, since they are married. But if needed, being DVC has it's advantages there as well, since they have DVD players in the room, so if a movie is needed, we would just bring it with us, or get it from the community center.

Bringing a DVD is no different than packing a fire stick.

I would make other plans, because I have found that trying to stream anything on any device at the resorts is a hopeless endeavor. I've tried watching Netflix, Vudu, WWE Network, NJPW World and NBC Sports on my tablet in the past and aside from some minimal success with the WWE Network, it mostly lead to frustration.

OK, thanks. This is pretty much what I was expecting (generally speaking, big hotel = poor WiFi performance).

Do you know if they have TVs with HDMI ports though? I would at least like to give it a try...

I can't speak for the CBR, but recently at the WL the Guest-In Room WiFi was actually very good, versus the slower public space or in-park WiFi.

Can speak for CBR but my fiance always brings his Xbox One (to watch Netflix, NFL games, etc when taking breaks from the parks) & we had zero issues at POR & POFQ.

Just bring their iPad. Make sure you have a few preloaded shows. That way they have it on the plane as well.

I have a "no iPad rule" on vacation..he has to hand it over when we land. And tv is only allowed in the morning while I'm getting ready.. However, I made an exception for the OSU game :). We ordered pizza and room service deserts and hung out in our room for that night.

I'd be certain there is an HDMI port. As for wifi, it seems mostly dependent on how many others are using bandwidth. I've been to hotels that requested no streaming devices.

Assuming that the Fire Stick works just like the Chromecast that I have, you may not be able to get it to work with the in-room WiFi.

The issue is that the Disney wifi requires you to connect through a "splash screen" where you accept the wifi terms and conditions (something I think you have to do once a day). As far as I know, there is no way to connect that way through a Wifi device like an HDMI streaming device.

We returned home today and spent 2 of our 5 nights there. In building 16 speed test.net showed 4-5 Mbps down. You could tell when others started streaming. I had to download several files each night that were 2GB +. You may have no problems, but I'd expect to spend time watching it buffer.

I didn't need HDMI so can't help with that.

The TVs will have hdmi. There isn't an HDTV made that doesn't have at least 1. Now if you wanted an RCA connection then there might be a problem.

The Fire stick is more like an Android based Roku Stick than a Chromecast. It has its own operating system and as long as the wifi is strong enough, you should be able to log on and get it working. I have both a Chromecast & a fire stick. Brought the Chromecast on vacation and had the problems you describe. Should've brought the Fire stick instead.
On a less important note there are plenty of tablets on the market, maybe not as cheap as the bare bones 50 buck Fire tablets but not crazy expensive either, that have micro HDMI - to - HDMI outputs. Buying one of those not only gives you an extra tablet, but if the wifi isn't strong enough to let you stream content, you can have content downloaded to the device. A few of the kids' favorite movies or shows for bed time. Maybe some music that helps put them to sleep. You're golden.

I suppose if you need something to help you fall asleep a OSU game will do it. GO SPARTANS!!!! :) (or GO UofM if they are playing OSU)
