Is there a particular reason for this dramatic change in costume?

It's not. It's to match the current merchandise look. Same with how they changed other princesses dresses and wigs.

So they take princesses and tart them up if they weren't already and they take the one who could be considered that way and make her a, what, frump?

BARF, when I think back to the Jasmine that I fell in love with when I was six, this ain't it. I do NOT want a picture with her in that outfit, the design team could have done better. Are they going to put a turtleneck on Princess Tiana now? Jasmine has been showing tummy and décolletage for almost 25 years, why cover her up now. Wonder if the change is out of respect to the middle eastern culture.

Or other parents, or kids, or anyone for that matter. You don't have to be Tim Gunn or Heidi Klum to now that that outfit is terrible.

Those photos definitely aren't poor quality at all. Maybe not HQ but definitely enough detail to form an opinion
