Ha! You rascal, you!! :p (Side note: You'll appreciate this -- at the huge Thanksgiving buffet we attended yesterday, I had brought with me some baggies and an almost empty purse, for extra space. So I heaped up my dessert plate and went back to our table. Then somehow o_O , a few of the desserts ended up in the baggies . . . in my purse . . . and one of them was a big piece of pecan pie!!!) :hungry: :hungry: :D I'll be eating that delicious piece of pie later on today!! :hungry:

Did you take it out of the pan as soon as you got it out of the oven? It's better to wait about 10-15 minutes before turning it out onto a cooling rack. Also, a trick my mom taught me: Run a knife around the cake on the edge of the pan, then gently shake the pan back and forth to loosen the bottom before you flip it over.

I removed it right away to the cooling rack. I think part of the issue was that when you put it on the rack, it goes face down out of the pan. So, I tried to life it to flip it over on the other side, (and it was hot!), so I dropped it for a second and then tried to "right" it up again and that's when it fell apart. I'm useless in the kitchen . . .:cautious:

Hubby came to the rescue though and assured me that it would all still taste the same, whether it was all together as one loaf, or in a million pieces! :p

I watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade for 10 minutes and switched to UEFA(soccer/football)

parade was really sad

Just curious--what did not like about it?

I enjoyed what I saw of the parade (I was back and forth between the kitchen and livingroom, so I missed a lot of it). I love the marching bands, and the flying balloons like Snoopy and Spiderman (to name a few) were so much fun to see. Basically, I think it's a very happy holiday tradition and I can't tell you how many years I've tuned in on Thanksgiving morning.

Unfortunately, I missed the performance of the Rockettes, as I have always enjoyed their precision and pretty costumes.

Did you see any of the Broadway play segments? Some of them were great, I thought. My favorite was "On Your Feet" about the background of Gloria Estafan. There was some really peppy musical numbers and dancing. I'd love to see that show.

Here is a us, pair of dorks in matching shirts at the start of the party.

We really liked the design of the Christmas party shirt, we ended up getting the passholder one that was a little lighter green and said passholder.

The part I say had a country singer and a singer I never heard of before. Along with a couple balloons and floats. Baseball and hockey floats. Nothing else.

Tacky plates with chourico stuffing at the end. I'm in a food coma right now. I did score a lightening deal on Amazon today....$10 Aladdin Blu-Ray Diamond Edition. I went on at the time it came up and it was 72% gone already within less than a minute.

POST OF THE DAY!!! :hilarious: :hilarious:

OMG! You absolutely crack me up!!! You delivered the proof--those turkey plates are hideously funny!!! They're sort of the (Thanksgiving/silly turkey award) equivalent of uggo Christmas sweaters that come out every year! :p

We had a very nice evening over here. Just me and my family, my grandmother and stepgrandfather, and one of my uncles. And for once, my grandmother did not bring up the topic of having a boyfriend, so that was nice. This was the first time stepgrandfather has been on an outing since he broke his hip in September and landed himself in the hospital, subsequently got and recovered from pneumonia, and was in a nursing home for rehab. He's been home for a while now, but has pretty much stayed at home. It was hard to see him unsteady, and he's having trouble talking (apparently he needs speech therapy), but overall, he's doing really well. He ate really well, which is good. Considering how many people would not have survived that, he's very fortunate. When my grandmother brought that up, he said that only old people wouldn't survive that. He's 99. :hilarious: The cat was adorable, though. She normally won't come up to people we have over, but stepgrandfather sat on the couch, and she hopped up next to him and let him pet her, and then laid there until he got up for dinner. It was like she knew he was still in pain and wanted to help.

Tomorrow, it will be time to attack that pile of homework...

That sounds like a very nice Thanksgiving. It was so sweet that the cat instinctively knew that your stepgranddad was not 100%, and she was right by his side to "help" him feel better.

Oh Jack! Raisins. Wonder what all those raisins will do to his digestive system by tomorrow. Eeek. But at least he received a special Thanksgiving Day treat.

I hope further on we hear how hubby did in his race.

And breads I usually leave about 10 minutes in the pan and then dump out onto rack.

Well as for Jack, I've been up a few hours and so far he seems just fine. He's playing now with one of his chew toys, that he dragged upstairs to the bathroom. (He enjoys variety in his playing locations. ;) )

Hubby was disappointed with his race time yesterday -- 40 minutes, but he said that the culprit was the huge running field of 10,000 runners. He was frustrated that he often got stuck behind individuals and groups and couldn't pass them, so it really messed up his time. (Not all the streets were wide enough for the runners to spread out as needed.) Anyway, I was proud of him for running the race, considering I never run. I'll walk all over the place, but I hate running, period.

Now the funny thing is that when each of the racers passed the finish line, they were handed a free apple pie to take home! HA! :D

Yes, I'll wait a good ten minutes next time before I try to remove the loaf from the oven pan. Thank you for the tip.

We have leftovers yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tonight is good old turkey sandwiches. Tomorrow BBQ. Sunday turkey stew. I lucked out with the nice weather some of the 20 something cousins didn't show as they went to the parade in the city and then out with their friends. Needless to say their parents weren't happy. I'm freezing some of the extras to play around with later. The only veggie that's left is salad LOL so it looks like I may have to cook later. Who knew brussels sprouts would be popular:confused: Everybody had a bit of meat but the sides really went this year as did the gravy from the smoked turkey.

I'm happy to hear that your Thanksgiving dinner went well. You certainly put in a ton of work into making everything pleasant for your family and your guests. I know your hubby helped out, too.

Curious about some of the cousins: was it a clear invitation that they were invited to dinner? I can't imagine it would not be a clear invitation, but I'm asking for a reason. The reason is this: Thanksgiving Day is a day for family to spend together. If (some) of the cousins blew off the invitation to observe this major holiday in the spirit of which is is supposed to be observed (with family, and to give thanks that we all have food to eat), then I find that disrespectful on their part. Family aside, the amount of work and money put into a big Thanksgiving Day meal is massive, and I'm stunned to read that (some) chose to hang out with friends. I'm actually holding back here my deeper feelings and what I really want to say about them, but out of respect for the forum, I'll end it here.
