I don't think parallel parking has anything to do with being a good driver. I have never been able to parallel park and I am a good driver. I have never had the need to parallel park either.
I think it depends on the area, but in MD, you need to be able to parallel park. Before I was a senior in high school, if I drove to school, I had to parallel park. I think it's a good assessment of whether or not people know where the car is in space.

That's amazing. I've never had a job anywhere that they actually shut down for a whole week. The only day I get off is Christmas Day, and any other time I want, comes out of my vacation time. Even that's difficult around Christmas because everyone else also wants to take (some) time off. This stresses out a lot of workers every year, and is bad for morale. The only good thing about this year is that Christmas is on a Friday, so at least there is the weekend directly following which helps.

As I've posted before, we do get 2 paid days for Christmas, but, the other 3 days of that week come out of your vacation days, or you work the other 3 days the office is closed to clients (if there's work to do), or you take it unpaid.
I probably should have clarified. :)

This is the reality for a lot of people, unfortunately. I think a lot of us forget. My husband is currently working 3 jobs (although the not retail) and it can get crazy.

Yep, I could have collected unemployment, but, I'd have gone crazy not actually producing. It wasn't easy and I don't wanna' ever hafta' do it again, but, I now know I could if I had to. :)

Also, I hope your husbands job situation can be improved sometime in the near future.

First good piece of news for today:

Y'all know how much my online management class has been stressing me out. Last week, week 1, I got a C on one assignment, a D on one, and then two Bs on the other assignment, which brought my grade total to a high C.

This week, I just got the grades back on the assignment. Four assignments, all perfect scores, and my grade is now an 89. I think I improved. It is a relief. Given all the work that I put into this class, those grades were deserved.

I think he liked that I did my own research because the textbook was wrong about Disney. And in one of my responses, I mentioned that DMVs should add free Wifi and allow people to schedule appointments ahead of time. He wrote back, "I agree with you on the DMV. It's like going to the dentist and getting a cavity removed without Novocaine: Painful." :joyfull:

My DH company shuts down between Christmas and New Years. It is partially unpaid, Eve, Christmas, Eve and NYE, rest depending how the week falls is unpaid.

Our DMV was horrid and highly rumored to be $$$ for licences. We actually had a governor go to jail over the scandal if memory serves me correctly, so many in jail. Then we elected this amazing man who took at risk kids and taught them gymnastics, the Jesse White tumblers. He ran for office and won. A simple honest man not at all a politician, though he is a rare good one now. He turned the DMV honest, amazingly functional and most employees turned into customer friendly and helpful. Most. I am so freak'n impressed over the last decade.
Sadly he recently announced he will retire. Sadness.

My drivers license expires in June, and by then I'll have to go to the DMV to get the Provisional thing removed (I've had a full license for two years now but don't feel like paying for a new one) and the under 18 until 2013 and under 21 until 2016 things removed (I turn 21 at the end of April). I am not looking forward to that trip. I should probably get a new photo taken too. People who look at my license question whether it is me based on the picture. It was taken when I was 16, so...

Is Jasmine, regular white rice like Uncle Ben's? I've bought Uncle Ben's before and it was pretty good. I also like boil-in-bag rice--very easy to cook!

They're similar, Jasmine is stickier and more aromatic, usually used in Asian dishes. And it looks like Uncle Ben's uses Jasmine in one of their products, so you could try that out and see if you notice a difference.

Yeah, my DD will be 24 at the end of the month. She still looks like she is a very young teen let alone a working adult that graduated college almost 2 years ago. Love when she buys a lotto ticket or orders a drink. Nobody wants to believe it is her when they look at the ID. We had her at Red Robin and she ordered a drink on her 21st BDay and the waiter thought she was cracking a joke. He was stunned. Too funny.
