I'm with you. I liked it when I was much younger, but now consider it a sham. You should show how much you love someone EVERY DAY!! :joyfull:
I never liked the valentine card thing is school. My experience, was that some kids only got 1 or 2, and the "popular" kids, got lots! I always felt sad for those who didn't get many. I gave out cards to everyone, not just special friends. I agree , Valentine's Day, is just another spend money celebration. Hubby and I haven't done Christmas Cards and Valentine's cards for years. They are expensive, and a total waste of money. We take what we would have spent and went out to eat. The day before, or after as we don't do large crowds!

@MR FERRET , I like your hat. Too bad the photo doesn't show the rest of your Halloween costume.

That's a great picture!

As a kid I wasn't too into the holiday, maybe because no one every gave me the big heart shaped box of chocolates I wanted. It didn't really bother me to be without a date thought (I just wanted the candy). And now like I said it reminds me of my mom passing, she actually died on February 13, but it was the first holiday without her.
Sorry for your loss. My Mom died the day after Mother's Day, and Dad died the day before Father's Day. Different years. The only good thing about that was, we always visited our parent's on their special day. I was with Dad when he passed. And flying back home when Mom passed.

Hi? I'm trying to enter the chit chat thread without making any loud noises.
I'm here. Me thinks.
I made a post this morning before my day turned insane (two kids, three costumes).
I just logged on again with the kids and the man fast asleep and you all have done three pages since my post this morning!
I have no point. I was just thinking maybe this might be a relaxing place to just talk to adult people who like to have fun and step away from work for a minute now and then during the day.
I've been looking for that for a while.
So Hi. I'm Sabrina. I love Disney trips. Found it quite by accident when my husband (then boyfriend) and I were invited to a wedding. Why? I asked....would adults go to Disney? Been hooked ever since.

Welcome @Sabrina D. I love Disney too. I've been going since it opened up. And have tried over the years to get friends interested in going. They think it's just a kiddy land. Glad to have a Disney lover along. :joyfull:

Isn't it awful that we sometimes associate holidays with the sickness/passing of our loved ones?

I dislike Hallowe'en because it is the day that my dad's cancer manifested itself, and then this Thursday, we mark the 4th anniversary of my mom's early check-out. :(

So far, I'm still good with Valentine's Day, although it's no biggie around here. Every day is "I love you more than anything day". February 14th is just a reason for florists to charge triple for flowers.
I found the comment about florists to be hilarious! Keep 'em coming. Sorry about your loss .

The left over pencils are going away for next year and because the weather was so nice and we had extra kids I ran out of raisins and wound up tossing a few coins into the bags of the last few kiddos. they were older so I'm sure they didn't mind.
We had about 80 kids last night. Just a few bags of chips left, and a few suckers, hubby told everyone to take a handful. Since they were so small, he heard one little girl telling another little girl coming up to our door " they have suckers, and chips" and you can take both! Made me laugh all evening.

I'm not great at sewing, I can do straight seams and stuff like that but I don't have the paitence for sewing. I wish I could make clothes but I always had problems with pants.

Ironically, I love doing counted cross-stitch and crochet. I find that it is relaxing. I haven't done it in awhile, as I have spent more and more time on the internet. I really should get back to my cross-stitching. I have a project in the works, a Disney one. The trouble is it is on a dark fabric so I need really good light for it, and our living room lights don't give me the best light. Daytime light is better but that pesky job keeps me busy during the day.
I love cross stitch, they have so many nice books and patterns. Do you frame yours ? DD has a cross stitch that I did over thirty years ago. It was a Christmas one I did and had framed. I visit it once a year!:D

I didn't know that was not allowed in some schools. Our kids can dress up until middle school. That makes sense to me, we couldn't dress up after elementary. It sure was fun for us, in the black ages!;)
There are some parents who don't approve of Halloween and some religions that are against it, so some places have a "Harvest party" instead, and the kids aren't allowed to wear costumes. At least that's what I hear from friends. Since we don't have Halloween much here, there are no Halloween parties. I remember back when I was in school, each year we had parties for Halloween, Christmas, Valentines day, and possibly St. Patrick's day. Each child was assigned to one of the parties to bring treats so you didn't end up with so many treats for one party. But I don't think schools celebrate most of those anymore.

I love the necklace, I have always loved, my Indian heritage, I was given this wonderful pin, from my piano teacher, at about 6. I've cherished that pin for years. It was from an Indian tribe, in Wisconsin. I didn't know at the time that my dad's mother was native American. Now it's more special since they have passed, and I have a special pin for doing so well with my piano studies.
That's really cool! We made several things, mostly Christmas cards, but I can't post them because DD's face is in them. But I bought 3 more of the little bottles to make more necklaces and we're going to sell them at the Christmas market at the school.

That's true. (I actually like Valentine's Day because of hubby, but I recall a number of V. Days down through the years that were miserable, when no one was in my life.) So Valentine's Day is really different for everyone, depending upon their own unique circumstances. ( @ajrwdwgirl , I understand it is a tough day for you, because of your mom.)
I hated it in high school...I wasn't allowed to date, but even if I had been, no one was lining up to date me, and it was just a miserable day.

@ajrwdwgirl , did your mom pass on Valentine's Day? My mom passed on the 4th of July, so that's a hard one for me, but fortunately over here that's not a holiday, so I don't have the reminder everywhere I look.
