That was an excellent compromise. I was just watching the local news and one school district was under pressure to ban a traditional Halloween parade (where all the kids would get dressed up in costumes), because of a number of families with various kinds of religious or other beliefs against Halloween. The parents who want to keep the Halloween parade are fighting back. Should be interesting to see how all this pans out. As I've said before here recently, sheesh, I'm glad I'm not a kid now . . .
We have a "Harvest Party" at school instead of Halloween. No costumes allowed for a few years now. Funny thing is though the hallways are still decorated the same and the parties still have the same stuff. Some of us parents still make Halloween goodie bags to take in.

They are shooting an episode of House of Cards over here today.

It's like a madhouse. Security is all over the place. Parking is mostly blocked off. I'm parked in a visitor spot and triple checked that it was fine. A lot of students have to park on the grass. It's pretty annoying to tell you the truth.

Well, at least the school is getting paid for this, which should help keep tuition costs down (and help fund my scholarship). And I'm going to want to figure out which episode so I can see...

There's always a film crew shooting on my commute at least once a month, since I usually drive through Venice, which is a very popular location for TV shows and movies.

I love Christmas as much as anyone else, and all the fun activities. The problem (for me) is that I stress out if it's mentioned too early, as I'm always battling budget issues as it is. And don't think that our salaries will ever even catch up with the cost of living at 2% a year. I recall years ago that it was common to get 8-10%.
I never go overboard with spending on Christmas presents. (the cookie trays we make are a big plus) This year we are going out of town for the holidays so I told my daughter she can find extra presents under the tree or stay an extra night on our trip. She choose the extra day. :) I would have too. Of course, "Santa" may make a trip to the Dollar Tree for a few extras. ;)

We don't encounter it a lot, but they do shoot House of Cards here. I've encountered it a few times. Today was the worst though. We were not allowed anywhere near it. The other campus has a lot of green space (it's actually the original campus, but we're not allowed to build anything else due to zoning and historical regulations) so that's likely what they needed it for. There was a commercial shot there over the summer. They were most excited about it. Now, this, they kept under wraps. I'm not sure I am supposed to even know about it, but leaks happen. I'm fine with them shooting something if it brings the school money, but not sure why they couldn't do it over the weekend when there will barely be anyone there, unless weather was a factor (or who knows; they might still be shooting over the weekend).

I wish they would make a series called House of Cards against Humanity. That's what I think every time someone mentions House of Cards.
I don't normally watch any political dramas, but I would watch an episode if I could see my school there. I prefer crime dramas and the occasional drama, but never got into Good Wife, House of Cards, West Wing, etc. I watch NCIS: LA, Hawaii Five-0, Last Man Standing, Muppets, an ABC Family drama, an ABC Family comedy, and my two favorites: Once Upon a Time and Big Bang Theory.

We have actually decided that next time we will get the QS plan, just to change things up. There are actually a good number of QS places that offer some unique items that we would like to try. When we are on the DDP, we only get one QS choice a day so we haven't had a chance to try all we have wanted. And with that choice, we don't want to take a lot of time to get to the restaurant, as we will be taking time out for dinner later, so we tend to go for what is close by. Also, it will save us some money which is nice but mostly, I just want to change things up and see if it doesn't lend itself to a more spontaneous trip.

Glad someone asked the question. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for their favourite QS restaurants or items.

BoardWalk Bakery has great lobster rolls and eclairs! :hungry::hungry::hungry:
