I know! From everything I read, it sounds like he was lucky to have even lived through that. I'd love to get his military records.

Yep, totally unexpected, on the Allies part, winter Nazi counteroffensive. One carppy (HUGE understatement) Christmas and New Years for all involved.
And then they executed that large group of American POWs, and just left their corpses laying in the snow for our troops to find. Sick and sad, all the way around.

Don't know how you would obtain them, but, those records could tell a bit of an interesting story.

Happy Saturday to all of you! I hope your day goes well. It is supposed to be in the 70's here today so I'm looking forward to hanging out outside doing nothing in particular. Even though I'm supposed to be eating healthy I still went into town and got my Saturday morning coffee and donuts (one for me & one for hubby). The dog came along again and got a new toy. :)

I'm trying to lose weight...it's not helping that my hip is still hurting and I can't do my daily workouts yet. Hopefully next week. But I wish I could get spaghetti squash here!!

Hope the hip starts feeling better and you get to start back up on your daily workouts soon! :)
Yep, haven't had spaghetti squash in a while, but our very health-conscious oldest DD brought it up after pops emergency. Will probably be seeing it again in the near future...! ;)

Hahaaa...!
Really love Casablanca, and so many other classics, as well! :)
I catch myself watching TCM more and more as time goes by. ;)

Seems like I'm always discovering little screen gems I've never seen before.
I caught one a few years ago called "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" from '48, starring Cary Grant and Myrna Loy.
Such a fun little comedy, especially since I'm in the architecture business. :)

I know what you mean about the oldies. All this talk has got me excited because it is almost time for It's a Wonderful Life. Well...maybe I am getting ahead of myself. For now, I'll have to stick with old reruns of Columbo. I find it very Hitchonian.

Hanging out with my family today at home. For dinner, we will have our Thanksgiving meal. We went with ham which seems like a lot less work so I don't know what do with myself all day without a turkey in the oven. The kids are watching one of those Harry Potter movies and I'm catching up on some work. It is freezing here. Glad I didn't have to go anywhere today.

Yep, Colombo was always a hoot. So quirky-smart.

ETA: Kinda' like the Monk of that era, maybe...?

That would be awesome! Or if we got ourselves a boat. No, we do use airplanes occasionally. ;)

We always fly to WDW, but, we don't have another trip 'til Feb. of '16.
We've actully done a lot of driving trips over the last coupla' months.
Twice to Houston and back, two trips into the Texas Hill Country, one down to the Texas coast, and one to NOLA. :)

Orlando is a 26 hour drive for us (not counting stops) but we enjoy it. People think we are crazy but it saves so much cash and you get to see so many neat things along the way.

Happy Thanksgiving to y'all up there! :)

We usually celebrate our Thanksgiving at my folks house just down the road, and have both. My mom makes the turkey, and my DWifey makes the ham. :hungry:

We're just havin' a lazy day here, as well, and watchin' some college football.

Sorry about the cold temps.
It's 77 and clear here right now, and supposed to get up to 91... ;)
