So if Disney announced tomorrow they were revamping DHS, to the tune of around $3billion. Then what does that prove insiders were correct - or that your jealous.

Nah I'm fairly negative with Disney in park product since before I joined this forum. Spirit who has been correct about most Disney stuff in the fan community not just on these forums for over 10 years. I trust his statement that the board met to approve funding for a revamp of DHS. You can argue about the amount. You can't argue over the fact the Board met on Disney property within the last month.

You're perfectly entitled to the opinion that nothing is coming, I agreed with that until somewhat recently (they had to do something eventually, but there was no telling how long it would take or the budget/quality involved). But pretty much everyone responding to you are themselves extremely critical about Disney and are generally labeled as "negative haters" from those who think Disney is perfect. I myself am one of the "negative" people, i've had admittedly little to no positive things to say about the parks from the mid 90's onwards.

But in a very rare instance, we have people in the know telling us it's okay to be somewhat optimistic for a change regarding DHS. People like WDW1974, marni1971, PhotoDave219, articos etc etc. Pretty much all of which are notoriously hard on the company (especially the first three) and generally express disgust with the way WDW is nowadays. They've proven their track records, and they're very picky and harsh about things that don't follow classic Disney standards. If they of all people are saying this is an iron clad done deal and should be very impressive, i'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's not Disney's word i'm trusting.

That's so interesting to me - Mermaid is such a fascinating case study in dark rides because it is so much more lavish than Pan or Toad, and yet seems to register overall as less effective. I don't think anyone bemoans the few great animatronics it showcases, but for all the rest of the trouble they went to it feels like the ride comes up short. That jibes with the multiple retoolings it's undergone since opening at California Adventure four years ago, which have since been matched at WDW.

Someone mentioned in another thread recently that they believed Winnie the Pooh should perhaps have replaced Snow White instead of Mr. Toad, and went on to suggest that Toad probably would have turned into Mermaid then at a later date. Reading that, I couldn't help imagining Mermaid being translated into a ride that would fit that building; in the style of some of the older Fantasyland Dark Rides, blacklight cut-outs and all. It reminded me of this Emporium window display -- I feel like, with so much less, it does so much more to capture the feel of the movie than the ride actually does. Even with its expensive rock work and cheap fish-mobiles (Beautiful queue and Ursula animatronic not withstanding).

I guess what I wonder, then, is what would Disney define as "far less lavish"? Fewer animatronics? Less interior rockwork? Because if it meant scaling back to a style closer to an Emporium window diorama, with all it's inexpensive magic, maybe that wouldn't be the worst thing. I'd love to see them producing more in this style.

I don't understand what's wrong with Screamscape.. or Jim Hill for that matter. They seem to report on what is universally known without pulling things out of the blue. I've noticed things like the Monsters Inc coaster not panning out, but something like that can't be held against them.. I was also going through their archives recently, out of interest, and noticed they announced the Seven Dwarfs mine train in say 2008, quite awhile before the specifics of FLE was even announced. Website has its moments.

It is interesting that when Screamscape's rumors don't come true, Screamscape's clearly unreliable. But when the same happens to the Insiders here, it's because "plans changed"...

You kind of answered your own question -- they have their moments because they are not particularly discerning with the rumors they share. Anything that is being passed around as rumor, verifiable or otherwise, is good enough for them to report. Every now and then a story they shared turns out to be true, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. Cover enough rumors and eventually some of them will turn out to have been legitimate plans.

With regards to the "insiders" on this site -- and there are a few of them -- the real ones have a track record that is proven over years of solid reporting. When a new rumor is shared, look to see how the senior posters respond - if they're inclined to believe the poster, it's probably because the majority of what that poster has shared over their time here has been solid info. If they jump to questioning, or the poster is brand new, there's cause to take their info with a grain of salt. Every now and then someone with solid info will share something that ends up not coming true, but plans do change, and I can't imagine why anyone of repute would suddenly decide to stir the pot and just make things up. With the right people, it's actually more believable that the information evolved around them, but really only a few people here really deserve that much credit.

The trick is discovering who here has developed a solid reputation and who has not, and judging the info accordingly. Someone is right with regularity over an extended period of time, and every now and then something doesn't pan out? They still probably know what they're talking about. Someone is right once in a blue moon, and other posters frequently question the legitimacy of their discourse? Probably more of a broken clock brand of "insider".

So now that the nonsense has left this thread, can we discuss again the theme park insider report of Star Wars seemingly being fast tracked for WDW?

We know the line has always been DL ~ 2019/ DHS ~2021, but we've heard all too often 'those were the old plans' thrown around this thread. Could those also be 'old dates'? Theme park insider is one of the few external providers that seem to have some legitimate sources.

It never made sense to me why Disneyland would get a shoehorned Star Wars Land before Disney/MGM Hollywood Studios Adventure did. I hope they have fast-tracked it and DHS gets it first. Other parks get so many things before WDW does, let WDW get something first for a change. And 2019 would be MGM/DHS/DHA's 30th so getting Star Wars and completion of the redo by then would be nice.

I'd be amazed if they fast tracked it though and got it done in a couple of years. We're still *two years* away from Avatar. But this is a different scenario. DHS needs a redo done ASAP.
