TEA Attendance Report Now due June 3rd

Every move Disney has made in the last ten years has been aimed at getting folks to see WDW as a one-stop destination. You go to the website, they make it sound like you pretty much need to stay on property. They don't even want you renting a car anymore. They want to collect you at the airport, bring you to the resort, drop you off at the lobby, keep you on Disney property your entire stay, pick you up a week later, and deliver you back to the airport.
Sounds exactly like Vegas, everything the casinos offer is meant to keep you on their property, restaurants, shows, concert venues, night clubs, pool parties, comps, bars, etc, etc are all meant to keep you from ever needing to leave your resort. Some people will never leave but most do. A first trip to Orlando might be WDW only or USF only but I'd bet a lot of people catch the bug and visit both (plus Sea world, Legoland, Busch Gardens) on subsequent trips. The biggest problem with Orlando is trying to see it all, that's why we keep going back.

You mean like if you were entering a new market, you'd make sure the Disney channel was available on TV there as to introduce people to your product?
I understand the point, but really though, what value does the Disney channel hold in relation too the parks? Very little of what is seen on that channel ends up in the parks.

If true, that area is large enough for 2 IASW show buildings and infrastructure support... That doesn't seem large enough to hold all of MARVEL's glory....

I doubt it would be a land for every Marvel character ever. But it could easily be a Captain America coaster themed to 1940's America, which works well with Hollywood Land next door. I'm not a Marvel fan in the least, so not sure what other characters work within the context of 20th century America.

You could spread Marvel out around the Disneyland Resort; Captain America in Hollywood Land, the Iron Man Experience replaces Star Tours in Tomorrowland just like Hong Kong Disneyland gets next year (because Star Wars Land replaces Toontown at Disneyland by the end of the decade), etc.

Obviously they've got plans for a Marvel land and E Ticket for the plot behind Tower of Terror. Unless WDI's height test balloons there last year were just a fun way to waste helium. The question now is if they say something about this at D23 Expo in August.

I thought that the Marvel additions -- if they happen -- would be in the Hollywoodland area where Monsters Inc/Muppetvision currently is.

That was the Monsters Inc. door coaster that got shelved a couple years ago. Miceage says the new plan is for a Marvel Land and E Ticket coaster behind Tower of Terror.

Even before Disney bought ABC, they had a close relationship. I remember the promos of the Globetrotters riding rides during their annual game broadcast in the malaise of summer sports programing of the 80s. You know, back when ESPN showed Australian Rules Football. Least we not forget the "I'm going to Disney World" manta from a Victor of a championship like the Superbowl.

Now Universal is owned by a company with it's own network so let the games begin. I mean Universal ads are all over NBC programming now much more than was possible when you we not paying in house rates.

Hell, I' d sponsor a good NASCAR team and have a Universal car running up front on all those Fox and ESPN broadcasts just for giggles.

I wonder how adding a nighttime at AK show will effect this.

It should help a lot.
Even guests who aren't experienced to know that there's not enough to do at Animal Kingdom to stay all day know to leave simply because of the posted hours... and the fact that everyone else around them starts thinning out in the early afternoon.

Yes, but if I go to Universal Today and go to Disney tomorrow, that is an Attendance tie for the year. Neither gains on one another.

And I truly believe that Disney is absolutely fine with that. As long as they hit their revenue numbers at WDW and get their licensing money from Universal, they're fine with it.

Edit: Who has that link to the Marvel deal? Were the financials disclosed? I forget exactly what their cut is....
The vig is redacted but I'm sure someone in your network is privy to it

Marvel contract is here, but the actual numbers are redacted.

Thanks. Well i was mostly just curious as to what cuts they got from inside the park. Nothing from the turnstiles but instead Food/bev cut from Marvel Superhero Cafe and of course, a percentage of the Marvel merch sold.

"MCA will pay an annual guaranteed merchandise advance of $*** which will be applied against merchandise royalties from any of its retail outlets calculated at a
rate of ***% of wholesale cost. After the annual guaranteed advance is fully earned, the royalty on additional sales will decrease to ***% and will be paid quarterly"

Exactly. So more people at Universal means more people there to purchase Marvel merchandise and therefore more revenue to Disney.

Whomever described this relationship as Symbiotic was right on the money.

Since Nintendo is coming to Universal, I wonder what it'll do with that property? Will Zelda and Mario wind up in a Toy-Story-Midway-Mania kind of ride, or will something actually cool be made with them?
