Hey guys, just here with an update post on a few new "rules":

First, it's getting to that time in the game ;) :p Strategy may start to play a bigger role, and now alliances may start to form (rumblings are that they have already ;)) So, we ask that all alliance PMs include the hosts to moderate.
(As always, of course feel free to chat about the comp privately)

Also, last night on the podcast @TheOriginalTiki presented the idea of letting those contestants with AoI rewards being able to pass off their rewards when they are eliminated. We thought about this concept, and modified it a bit into a new fun little twist. Now, if contestants have an AoI reward, they may feel free to hand the power off to another contestant to use. In addition, you may do the same with your extension hours, however no more than 2 hours can be played in one night, and if the other contestant does end up playing the ones you gave them, that will count as you playing it and you will therefore not receive the Session 9 advantage if you make it that far. The only difference between this and Tiki's idea is that you cannot give it away after you were eliminated, however if you have a feeling you will go home even though the judgements aren't in yet, you can give it away. This still means that there is a possibility that someone can be eliminated in possession of a reward, or stay around with someone else now having it ;)

Any comments/questions about these, just PM us or tag us in the discussion! :)

And, lastly, good luck as we head into Session 5, starting soon ;)

Concept Creation Challenge

It's time to really bring it everyone...Bring your best because this challenge is important...There will not be an elimination challenge this round, and 1 player will be eliminated from this CC challenge. So, as you can see, the stakes are high ;)

In this challenge, you will be competing individually to design a concept for a new attraction at any country in the World Showcase at Epcot.

Sounds simple enough, right? Same old World Showcase challenge as in many other comps, I got this!

Not quite ;)

Like all WS challenges in these comps, there is a twist, whether it be make a roller coaster, you can't be in a moving vehicle, etc. For us? We want a new attraction for all 10 WS countries (excluding Norway as it is currently having one built). By the end of the week, everyone must submit a proposal for a different country. However, no one will be assigned a country to work on.

So, the question is, do you work quickly to submit your favorite country in a few days to make sure no one takes it before you, or do you take the time to develop a more thorough concept with the hope that no one else will do it? Because keep in mind, you may not have a repeat country.

Challenge due Saturday, May 30th, at 7:00 PM EST (additional time zones will be listed in a post below), though remember, you may always post any time between now and then. You have no limits/restrictions for this challenge.

In addition, because there was no Concept Creation Challenge last session, no one has an advantage. However, the winner's advantage into next session just might be game changing...

This should be an interesting week ;)

AoI Challenge

AoI Challenges give you the chance to work on a special type of project....The things that truly separate Disney Parks from your hometown amusement parks to a magical experience. These magical little touches are what we call the Aspects of Imagineering
JAMMitors+-+Epcot+011.jpg

In this AoI challenge, you will be asked to work on creating new "Streetmosphere" for Epcot.

"Streetmosphere" is a term that refers to live performances in a park to add to the experience. This can be live music performers such as the "JAMinators" in the picture above, comical acts like in Hollywood & Sunset Boulevards in DHS, or even interactive things like PUSH the talking trash can. The difference between this and kinetics is that kinetics are designed to bring life and motion to an area, while this is more to entertain guests and keep them immersed in the experience.

Your project can go in either Future World or World Showcase this time, whichever one you deem is in more need of something.

Challenge due Thursday, May 28th, at 7:00 PM EST (for alternate time zones, the time of day is the same as the CC challenge). You have 24 hours to complete this challenge, so use your time wisely. You may use no more than 10 sentences and 5 images in your presentation, and you must include background music to play whilst reading.

Keep in mind, like all other AoI challenges, this is optional. However, the winner will receive a significant advantage going forward in the game....

The Voyage of China: Legend of the Dragon

Coming in 2018, an all new, state of the art attraction will be coming to the most visited vacation destination on the Earth. For this challenge in Session 5 of The Creator Games, contestants were tasked with creating an all-new attraction for a country in World Showcase at Epcot.

Backstory

Guests will be immersed in the story of The Voyage of China: Legend of the Dragon while experiencing the attraction. This story will put guests in the middle of a Chinese museum that features an exhibit with an ancient Chinese artifact, a chest in fact, as it’s main draw. Guests of the park have been formally invited by the director of the museum to attend the opening of the chest and to be one of the first to see the ancient contents of the chest.

1(2).jpg

Façade

The façade of the attraction will remain the same as it currently is. The only change that will be made is the marquee out front that tells guests what the attraction it.

china-pavillion-1-12.jpg

Ride Vehicles

The Voyage of China: Legend of the Dragon will not feature a set ride system like most attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort. It will begin as a theater in the round attraction and then split off into a line of individual vehicles that will move through the attraction. These individual vehicles are boats, as a portion of the dark ride section of the attraction will be on the water. Then, the vehicles will return to another theater to finish the attraction.

Queue

Following with the museum theme of the backstory, the queue of The Voyage of China: Legend of the Dragon will feature many different replicas of ancient Chinese artifacts such as life-size Terracotta Warriors and inventions created in the times of Ancient China.

In addition, the queue will feature living paintings that showcase the different aspects of Chinese culture that come to life in vibrant ways such as the water beginning to rush through a depicted river or an inventor wiping sweat off of his face after a long day’s work.

Ride Statistics

Attraction Type: Theater Show/Dark Ride Hybrid
Attraction Theme: Chinese Mythology, Nature, Innovation and Culture
Technology Used: Projection, Animatronics, Screens, and Physical Sets
Fastpass +: Yes (Tier 2)
Attraction Duration: 12 Minutes
Height Restriction: None

Attraction Experience

Guests exit the queue into 1 of 2 theaters. This is where they will begin the ride.

Once guests are settled in, they will be instructed of all safety requirements and additional procedures. Once the cast members have made sure that they guest’s lap bars are all safely down and secured, they will start the show. Each section of the theater is shaped like a ship, each with different colors and a varied design.

The lights dim as a soft, voice of the museum director begins to speak.

“Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to our wonderful museum. Today you are here to witness a monumental event, a historic event. You will see the opening of an ancient chest that we have dated all the way back to the Shang Dynasty.”

A hole in the floor in the middle of the room opens. Out of it, rises a stand holding a very old chest. This chest in covered in old markings and is coated in a thick layer of dust.

1(2).jpg

“This is the ancient chest that we have named The Box of Fucanglong. Fucanglong is the dragon of treasure. We found this a very suitable name, considering this box is a piece of ancient treasure.”

The stand holding the box begins to spin clockwise, allowing the guests to get a full view of the chest. The lid begins to slowly open, revealing a glowing pearl sitting in the middle of the box.

Now, an ominous, booming voice begins to speak.

“I am Fucanglong, the dragon of Treasure. You have disturbed my sacred chest that holds my most values possession… the Pearl of China. This pearl holds all of China’s greatest secrets, beauty and wonder. For opening it, you now have access to the land of… China.”

The seats begin to spin the opposite direction of the box, counterclockwise. Using projections, the walls, ceiling and floor come to life, changing to match every sentence that Fucanglong says.

“China’s beauty and wonder come from four, very important aspects of our land. Nature, helps the land be beautiful and alive year in and year out. Innovation, allows us to move forward and sometimes move back at the same time. Mythology, gives us the power to imagine and have faith in others and ourselves. And finally, culture aids us in keeping the spirit of our people alive from one year to the next. These four aspects of China help form The Legend of the Dragon. This Legend allows our society to thrive and live peacefully with all species of animal, creature and plant. However, if one aspect of the Legend of the Dragon falls apart, it could be disastrous. However, now that you have learned that, why don’t you experience the Legend of the Dragon for yourselves.”

The walls around the room disappear as the seats continue to rotate. However, one by one, each section (represented by different boats) of the theater moves away, along a specific path. This is where the paths from the two theaters meet.

The ships move along a pathway in a green-filled tunnel. However, these boats soon dip down into a river. The boats emerge in a large room features a lush, landscape. This room features rushing waterfalls, many different species of vegetation and a variety of animatronic animals such as Giant Pandas, Monkeys, Tigers and Mongooses.

4141803_orig.jpg

A projected sky above the heads of guests allows for an even more realistic experience. In addition, the voice of Fucanglong is now piped through speakers in the ride vehicle.

“This is the landscape of China. From lush vegetation to thriving wildlife, the jungles and forests live in harmony with each other. Of course, many of the dragons of China watch over the landscape. Dilong, the dragon of the Earth and Jiaolong the dragon of the sea aid in this supervision. Shenlong, the dragon of rain also helps the nature of China stay intact.”

18076_Chinese%20Dragon.jpg

The boat now moves into a dark room, where it rises out of the water and will now travel on land and through the sky.

Guests now move into a new, smaller room that features an inventor’s workshop.

“This is the innovation of China. Countless, inventors strive to keep society moving forward. From the invention of fireworks…”

Fireworks burst outside of the window.

“… to the invention of the cast iron pot that allows for an easier day to day life. Without the innovation of new inventions, China would be nowhere, without all of the progress that has been made in the past centuries.”
999.3L.jpg

Guests move away from the inventor’s room and into a different one. This new room is larger than the innovation room but smaller than the nature room. This room is themed to culture. A small town square is displayed, and many animatronic people are celebrating. Using projections, fireworks light up the sky and other effects come to life using this projection technology.
activities-london-chinatown-Chinese-new-year.jpg

“This is the culture of China. China’s culture features the aspects of ceramics, architecture, music, literature, martial arts, cuisine, visual arts, and religion. All of these together form the culture of China. Kui, the inventor of music and dance watches over the citizens of the world. From traditional Chinese cuisine to the sounds of soothing music, our society would fall apart without this key component of The Legend of the Dragon.”

The guests exit into a new room, the largest in the attraction. This new room makes it seem that the guests are flying in the air. Projected clouds in a projected sky swirl around the guests as they move throughout the room.
background-video-poster.jpg

“This is the mythology of China. The aspect of The Legend of the Dragon holds together the stories, literature and music of the land. Throughout the land of mythology, Fusang, the tree of the world grows into the clouds. This tree, with its roots, holds down China and keeps it grounded while the branches and leaves allow it to grow and reach towards the sky.”

However, suddenly, the tree to turn unhealthy shades of color and the leaves begin to fall.

With that, the guests move into another, different theater in the round theater. In the middle, is an dying, animatronic tree.

“However, with great power comes great responsibility. Every 10,000 years, the leaves and branches of the trees fall to the earth, leaving it bare. When the tree falls into this depressing state, it leaves the nature, mythology, innovation and culture of China lifeless as well. The Legend of the Dragon keeps the tree alive, as the power of the four aspects of the legend overpower the overcoming death of the tree. This allows the tree to grow new leaves and branches, which represents that constant change of the landscape, mythology, innovation and culture of China.”

With this, the tree in the center magically grows new leaves. Once this has happened, the tree sinks into the floor. Then, the Box of Fucanglong appears through the floor and closed, shutting the magic pearl inside.

“It is here, my great listeners, where I leave you. Just remember, when you see the landscape of China, the inventions of China, the stories and mythology of China or the culture of China, it’s The Legend of the Dragon that has kept it alive.”

The museum director speaks up once more.

“Well, we now know something new and wonderful about the nation of China. Now, let’s explore China itself. Thank you for visiting the museum and we hope to see you again soon.”

Guests then exit the theater and out into Epcot. The boat themed seats then exit the theater and move into the other theater where the ride begins.
Epcot_China_Stock_25_by_Disney_Stock.jpg

Thank you for visiting The Voyage of China: Legend of the Dragon. This excited and wonderful new attraction will add a new, needed and exciting new attraction to not just Epcot, but the entire Walt Disney World Resort as well.

Grimm Woods
located only at Germany, Epcot

Queue -

Guests will enter from what would've been the entrance to the Rhine River Cruise. The queue has been made to resemble the halls of a medieval castle. With coats of arms hanging on the walls, suits of gallant knights stand proud, and each brick helps transport one into a world of fantasy.

As guests continue through the castle halls they reach a pair of tall grand doors marking the entrance into the castle's library. Here in the castle library, bookshelves reach to the ceiling. And guest well even see that all of the Brother Grimm Fairy Tales have spots in the library from unknown stories to the stories that every has heard of. Rather it be about a young girl wearing the cape as red as blood, a princess with the slipper as pure as gold, a maiden fair with the hair as yellow as corn, and even the boy with the cow as white as milk.

castle-library.jpg

Guests will soon enter the secret chamber of the castle where a preshow is present. Here awaits an old man reading from a book on top of a large old desk. The desk has plenty of othe books scattered around each of them however are the fairy tales present in the ride. However the thing of interest is an old scroll hanging from the wall. It is covered in handwritten words in the ancient language of Latin. As the last of the guests enter the room the old man will look up, and begin to speak.

Old Man: Hello weary travelers, and welcome to Grimm Castle. Whom am I? Why I am Jahelm Grimm, the owner of Grimm Castle and overseer of Grimm Woods. That is not all however. For years I have been waiting for visitors to show off my magic! Yes all you fellows are in for a lucky treat! I will be sending you all into Grimm Woods where you will all become part of my ancestors stories. Perhaps you have heard of them, the Brothers Grimm? Well here goes nothing. Quasi vitam magicae, regia puella, vir fortis, veneficas!(The wizard's magic is soon seen as it goes around the room like a golden streak of light using projection) Now I'm ready to send all of you into Grimm Woods. Hurry be on your way before its too late!

Guests soon enter the boarding room and board the vehicles.

The explosion lights up an old palace. The steps of this palace are smeared in pitch, and stuck to the pitch a single golden slipper. As guests round the corner they see a large hazel tree with two white doves roosting in it. Under the tree guests will see a prince putting the slipper onto Aschenputtel's foot.

grimm-cover.jpg

Scene 2 - Little Red Cap

Guests will enter a cottage after passing by Aschenputtel. The cottage will have an eerie feeling to it as there appears to have been a struggle. Chairs, paintings, and other things have appeared to have been knocked over while a window appears to be broken. As guests near a large bed they see a basket, and its content have been thrown onto the floor. As the vehicles inch closer to the bed they hear some snoring, and the occasional growl. There will also be a muffled scream of help every so often. Then the wolf pops up. Hanging from his mouth will be a chewed on red cape, and he will be wearing Granny's clothing.

Wolf: Come to granny, my tasty little morsels! (He howls)

The vehicle spins wildly about and gets out of the cottage and reenters the woods.

Scene 3 - Rapunzel

As guests renter the woods as they pass by a tall tower. They will see a young prince kneeling at the base of tower. He will be saying out loud Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair, so that I may climb the golden stair! Soon Rapunzel's hair will come falling out of the window in her tower as it blows in the wind. Guests will round a corner and see another cottage.

Scene 4 - Snow White

This cottage has an old lady offering an apple to Snow White. As Snow White bites into the apple the room darkens as evil laughter commences. Guests then find themselves facing the seven dwarfs surrounding a prince kissing Snow White on her lips reawakening her.

220px-Franz_J%C3%BCttner_Schneewittchen_7.jpg

Scene 5 - Hansel & Gretel

Guests soon embark on a path made of candy rocks while the scent of gingerbread fills the air. Soon a house made of candy and cookies and oh so many sweets comes into view. Outside there will be two young children dining on the house. The door of the gingerbread house opens and a witch invites the children in. When inside guests see that Hansel in locked in a cage, and the Witch along with Gretel are near the oven. (The oven will be giving heat to the riders) When the Witch leans into the open oven Gretel shoves her in having the Witch burn to death. The vehicles leave the candy cottage and enter a clearing in the woods.

Scene 6 - Jack and the Beanstalk

Guests enter a clearing in the woods where a run down barn is standing.

Jack's Mother: You traded your cow for beans!
Jack: Their magic beans!
Jack's Mother: Magic! There is no such thing as magic Jack!
Jack: No mother don't throw them away!
Jack's Mother: Jack to bed with you, and without any supper!

The magic beans were thrown out the window by Jack's Mother. To signify this projection effects were used to send up magic sparkles to signify the fact that they are now growing. The room seems to start to shake as the vehicle moves sided to side, and up to down. The vehicles quickly leave the room as the sound of the ground splitting is heard.

jack_2-e.gif

There are two separate areas to go to now. They both however have the same effect.

Scene 7 - Kingdom of the Sky

As the vehicles separate into the two rooms the vehicles find themselves surrounded by screens. (This will be the only part that uses screens) The vehicle soon starts to rock back and forth as it turns out the vehicles are now riding the beanstalk up. On the way up the vehicles will spin and bob around. The beanstalk will allow guests to see all of Grimm Woods and Grimm Castle. Soon however as the beanstalk reaches its max potential of height it starts to shake once more as its chopped down. Soon the vehicle stimulates falling down to earth using the screens and actual air. Right before the vehicles crash into the ground for certain death they zip out of the room and back into Grimm Castle.
(The purpose for the two rooms is while one vehicle is ending its sequence another one can start in the other small room)

Scene 8 - Grimm Castle

Guests swoop into the library last minute a they are met once again by Jahelm Grimm

Jalem Grimm: I trust everything went smoothly? Well I do hope all of you will visit again as my magic has begun to run out for now.

Guests unload from their vehicles and exit back into Germany.

Mary's Jolly Holiday
United Kingdom Pavilion

united_kingdom_pavilion.jpg

For this project, we had to come up with a unique proposal for a new attraction in any World Showcase country. Though I'm usually the least patriotic person you could meet, I decided that my home country of the United Kingdom was in need of some love. My proposal would add a new ride based on Mary Poppins, in the style of the classic Disneyland dark rides, along with two new areas of the pavilion to explore.

qwchnxT.jpg

To make room for this expansion, the World ShowPlace events pavilion will be removed, and the UK pavilion will be expanded backwards. The first new area is Cherry Tree Lane, the Banks' street from the film. Behind Cherry Tree Lane is a large park, occupied by a village fair.

0

if-you-houses-web.jpg

To board the ride, guests enter the Banks' front door, and queue through the house. Exiting through the back door, they move through a smokey alleyway, and emerge at the local park, where the fair is in town. They queue towards the Carousel, actually the ride's load / unload platform. A Carousel pipe organ plays arrangements of music from Mary Poppins, and guests board a Carousel horse to begin the ride.

vlcsnap-1829696.png

102jYR0.jpg

Once guests have mounted their horses and strapped in, the horses move off into the first scene, gently bobbing up and down like a Carousel. The horses round a corner onto the Banks' street again, now facing a strong wind. Numerous potential nannies are blowing away in the wind, clinging onto railings and door frames, while Mary graciously sails down on her umbrella. Bert stands on the corner entertaining a crowd of passers by with a version of 'Chim Chim Cheree', as the horses sail into the Banks' landing.

Marypoppins-disneyscreencaps_com-2946.jpg

Here, Mary slides up the banister, singing 'A Spoonful of Sugar', as she helps the children tidy the nursery. Many physical effects are put to use here, allowing the nursery to seemingly clean itself, while Mary pulls a hat stand out of her bottomless bag.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.png

The horses gallop through the window, once again encountering bert, now singing about his life as a screever. The horses round a corner, prancing through a field to 'It's a Jolly Holiday with Mary'. The guests meet an umpa band, and pass Mary and Bert singing and dancing to 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious', in a scene much like the Under the Sea scene in the Little Mermaid at Magic Kingdom.

Leaving Bert's fantasy world, the horses careen into the home of Uncle Albert, who is having a tea party on the ceiling, accompanied by 'I Love to Laugh'.

kk1x125a.jpg

Guests then travel to the steps of St Paul's Cathedral, where they see an old woman feeding the birds. Mary softly sings 'Feed The Birds, Tuppence a Bag' in the background, as the old woman stretches out her palm to the pigeons sitting next to her. The scene is dark and serene, making no distractions from the bird lady and Mary's song.

860920.jpg

Leaving St Paul's, guests enter the Bank, where Dawes and the other bank managers are singing 'Fidelity Fiduciary Bank' and trying to convince Michael to invest his Tuppence in the bank.

tumblr_lyfapnyq2E1qky013o2_400.gif

Fleeing the bank, guests once again meet Bert, now a chimney sweep, who takes the guests up onto the rooftops of London. Mary, Bert and the chimney sweeps are all singing and dancing to 'Step In Time', while smoke rises in front of the London skyline. Projection effects are used to project a silhouette of Bert climbing a staircase of smoke onto the walls.

maxresdefault.jpg

Leaving the roof, guests enter the park across from the Banks' house, where they see Mr Banks and his family happily flying kites, laughing and singing together. The whole town has come out to fly their kites, including the bankers. 'Lets Go Fly a Kite' plays through the scene, as the horses pass Mary looking on, smiling to herself. Leaving the scene, guests see Mary flying away on her umbrella, before they return to the carousel to unload.

Exiting the ride, guests can explore the village fair, taking part in traditional fairground games such as hook-a-duck and the ring toss. This area is accessible without entering the queue and riding the ride, via a set of wrought iron gates at the end of Cherry Tree Lane.

Wild Woods River Expedition: The Legend of Ogopogo.
can1292z.jpg
This week we were challenged to create a new ride experience for World Showcase. I decided to go with Canada as I felt it would be my best bet on not being used by others....lets hope all works out! This new ride experience coming to Epcot will be fast, exciting, and thrilling. World Showcase in my opinion, is lacking exciting rides for teens and young adults. However, the rides still need to flow with the rest of World Showcase, and engage all aspects of the countries heritage, and culture.
Mountain Lake (small)(small).jpg
I now welcome you to hop aboard the Wild Woods River Expedition: The Legend of Ogopogo. Here guests will join a team of researchers, to discover the truth of the Ogopogo. For those who don't know, the Ogopogo is a serpent like monster, that resides in the Okanagan lake. However, the monster has been sighted in some other parts of Canada and Northern America.

The ride is basically going to be Epcot's Expedition Everest. The story is different in that is all water based and the environment is completely different. I wanted to do a water ride to continue the flow of water used in World Showcase throughout the attractions and pavilions.
fall-river-800.jpg

Queue:
Guests will start out at the Wild Woods Expedition center, where you will first get a glance at the British Columbia museum of Wildlife. This museum will feature artifacts and history of different animals and wildlife of Canada. It will also feature a section of the Ogopogo, so that guests will get a glimpse of whats to come and why the monster is so mysterious. Guests then enter a briefing room, where we see a video on how to safely board and exit the raft.
Canadian-Rocky-Mountains-River-856.jpg
Ride Experience:
The ride experience will start out very calm and peaceful. The ride will take do down a river through the majestic northern woods with mountain lions, wolves, and eagles inhabiting the woods. As you descend down the river, it becomes extremely foggy and the raft comes to a very still stroll. The raft completely stops abruptly. With fog surrounding the raft completely, we cant see anything or where we are. The raft starts to shake and suddenly the raft starts moving forward as if something pushes it. The raft is pushed off course and down a waterfall, into an unknown part of the river.
maxresdefault (2).jpg

The raft goes out of control on a twisting, twirling, white water rapid ride through turbulent waters with two more smaller drops. Along the way we enter in and out of caves, encounter a pack of wolves, and get very very wet!
mountain-lion.jpg
The finale of the ride is when the raft enters a cave. The cave is very dimly lit and we can see the end of the cave in sight. The raft comes to another halt, and starts to rumble. from the side of the boat out comes the Ogopogo. The ogopogo lets out a loud roar. Just then we become free of the beast and descend down the final waterfall. We now have landed in the main lake, where we are back to peaceful waters and a tranquil forest. We see the docks ahead and come to the exit. Guests then exit into the Wild Woods gift shop, and then back in the World Showcase.
OgopogoHead.jpg
The ride experience will be disney's longest raft ride to date. It will be along 10-12 minutes long and include several show scenes, unlike most raft rides that just include rapids and drops. The animals will be all AA's including the one Ogopogo.

Well thats my idea for this week! Hope I explained it well enough!

Session 5 - A World Of Opportunity

Imperium Romanum
600-italy.jpg

My project will be located in Italy. This new experience will let Epcot's guests enter the gates of a new ride. Enter mysterious Roman ruins and find yourself in a gallery of Roman artifacts. One of the main attraction of the gallery is the stone of Saturn. Saturn is the Roman god of time and space.
PB282255.jpg
In the pre-show we enter the new hall with in the middle, Saturn's stone. A guide with an Italian accent talks about the legends of this stone as it is believed that Saturn is trapped inside the stone with his mighty powers that could take you anywhere in time and space. Then he gets interrupted and the lights turn off. A mysterious light comes out of the stone. Now it bursts open and by projections you will see Saturn's face on the ceiling. He curses us as he is very angry that he was trapped for so many years. He says that he bans us out of this time and the room will start to shake. Small cracks in the wall will light up and make clear that we are taken to another place.
roman-god-saturn.jpg
Now a wall disappears and a tunnel leads to the station of the attraction. Still unclear where they are, guests board their own Roman chariots. Saturn appears again and casts a spell on the chariots, which makes them move. We move out of the station and get to the world where we ended up.
1.jpg5dc2638a-cce0-4866-b838-65e4471d46e3Larger.jpg
Guests now find out that Saturn has taken them back in time to the Roman empire or Imperium Romanum. We see that we entered the colosseum in Rome. By audio animatronics we can see the Roman emperor Caesar, fighting gladiators and we get attacked by tigers and lions too.
christian-martyrs-colosseum-x.jpg
Then we escape the wild colosseum and end up on the streets of Rome. Everything seems fine, but then Roman soldiers appear and try to catch us. We escape Rome, but we end up in a battlefield, where the Romans are fighting the Gauls.
zpage362.gif

In the rest of the ride we will escape the volcanic lava of Pompeii, enter a horse race and many more. In the end guests retrieve Saturn's stone and trap Saturn inside it so that he can never escape again. We see that a portal opens to bring us back to modern day Italy. The finale scene will show Roman ruins and later an audio animatronic scene in an Italian village.
vesuvius.png

This ride will be a family experience and will be a new ride system, where guests get to choose the directions. It's similar to a trackless ride, but here guests get to choose the movements a bit. Lasers on the side of the scenes will keep the vehicles from bumping against the sides. The ride will have small thrill parts too when we escape the Vesuvius' lava for example. The ride will take about 14 minutes. Disney hopes to see you soon embarking on this new adventure in Italy in Epcot.

Lords of the Dance: An Energetic New Family Thrill Ride at the Morocco Pavilion

My first choice for this project was always going to be Morocco. Being an outsider to WDW, I don't have a lot to go on in terms of exactly what the details of the different World Showcase countries are, which puts me at a bit of a disadvantage out of the gate. Out of all the countries, the one that always drew my eye the most was Morocco.

Morocco-in-Epcot-062311-L.jpg

Working with a relatively small space, the Imagineers along with help from local Moroccan builders an designers were able to translate a small bit of Epcot into a highly themed and detailed section of a much larger whole. I've always admired the pavilion for how much it's able to cram into so little. For that, I thought it'd be the perfect time to give the country an attraction of its own. This won't be an E ticket dark ride or a boat ride in the style of the other two World Showcase attractions. This ride will at its core be a basic "Crazy Dance" carnival ride.

New_crazy_dance.jpg

I know, sounds lame at first, right? There's a reason for the emphasis on "dance". Moroccan folklore is highly saturated in the art of the dance, so much so that all local legends practically revolve around it. The Marrakech Folklore Festival is one of the country's most popular events, and is founded entirely on showcasing the rare and exotic dances that make this particular culture so fascinating. With that in mind, I thought it'd be cool to translate some of these dances into a typical "spinner" flat ride and give it the true Disney touch.

Location and layout

worldshowcase_sites.gif

The ride will be located on the bottom half of expansion pad number six as seen in the map above. There will be three different spinner flat rides to boost the hourly capacity, all set in different rooms meant to be themed around a variety of dances the spinners will perform. The exterior of the attraction is a Moroccan church with a banner outside telling us of the folklore festival. We hear music coming from within that draws us through the church doors.

Queue:

Once inside the church, we wind our way through a narrow hallway made of the same light brown stone that lines most of the pavilion. Local Moroccan arts and crafts are laid out before us in a ceremonial fashion along the church corridors. The festive music continues to be heard until we reach the boarding area where we will be let into one of three different rooms. Each has the same "spinner" ride, but the variety lies in the programming attached to each rides cycle as well as the sound and lighting effects that accompany the experience.

Room One:
The Awash:

"The dance comes from the High Atlas valleys in the Ouarzazate area. A circle of women in multicolored robes stands motionless. In the center, men sit around a fire, each of them with a "bendir" (a circular wooden frame with a hide stretched over it). A piercing cry breaks the silence. It is a shout more than a song. All the drums beat. The song of the men begins, mounting skyward. The women reply. Shoulder to shoulder, they sway rhythmically and slowly. The rhythm gets faster and faster until the finale."

Ouarzazate-Festival-Ahidous.jpg

Two of the three sides of the spinner flat ride are motionless as the third starts to spin. The entire flat begins spinning but the majority of cars remain motionless (the flat ride is made up of spinning cars on a separate spinning platform) As the ride goes on all the cars start spinning and closing in on each other. The soundtrack in this room fits the description. There's a single cry before a drum beat takes center stage. The lighting in this section is shaded in blues and pinks to express the relation between male and female that this dance exhibits.

The Ait Atta:

"This dance resembles somewhat the Ahwash of Kelaa M'Gouna. A row of women in festive dress faces a row of men. All the gestures of the dancers express gaiety and enthusiasm. The dance marks the end of work in the fields, when the harvest is in and when the winter cold of the mountain regions gives way to the season of relaxation."

ahidous-ahwach-ait-atta.jpg

All of the individual vehicles are in full spin at this point. The music transitions from tribal drumming to rythmic guitars. The lighting changes to gentles hues of green and brown to simulate the mountain landscape.

The Houara:

"These dancers come from Inezgane near Agadir. The troupe is composed of a group of men and one woman. The men begin the dance to a sprightly rhythm. One or two virtuosi leave the circle to execute solo dance. When the rhythm reaches its peak, the woman rushes to the center. There follows a whirling dance of great power. Uncommon physical strength is required to keep up the rhythm and do such elaborate steps. The dance is without doubt one of the most spectacular in Moroccan folklore and arouses the enthusiasm of the audience."

HeleneEriksen_gnaouaworldmusicfestival20092.jpg

This version of the ride comes to a close as each of the three individual arms of the flat ride get an intense bout of spinning as the other two remain still. This is a pattern that lasts the remaining 45 seconds of the ride cycle.

Room Two:
The Tissint:

"South of Agadir, men and women, entirely garbed in indigo-blue, perform a dance which resembles a religious rite.

Perhaps it is an ancient rite. The dagger dance is clearly symbolic. It is part of marriage ceremonies. Men and women dance to a rhythm that becomes more rapid. A young girl and boy leave the circle to do a duet. The boy holds a dagger at arm's length at the end of a cord. He spins about, making circles around the girl, withdraws and comes nearer, until they are face to face. Advancing towards each other with short steps, the boy raises his arms to place the dagger around the young girl's neck as she continues to dance. Slowly the boy falls to his knees in front of her. The song continues."

morocco12.jpg

The spinning will be intense right off the bat. The room's lighting is red and brown to reflect the slightly sinister nature of this ritual.

Haha:

"The music is reduced to a solo seven-hole flute made out of a reed and elementary in design. The rhythm is supplied by hand-clapping and stamping of the feet on the ground to give a both powerful and enchanting effect. Dancing vigorously, the men produce an ensemble that is disciplined and virile."

The spinning becomes much gentler as the music and pace fits the general description above. The lighting is still in red and brown but in a lighter and more welcoming tone.

maxresdefault.jpg

The Ait Bodar:

"Another warrior dance performed only by men. Wearing white "gandoras", they link arms as if welded to each other and chant their song during a continuous backwards and forwards movement. The dance appears to symbolize the indivisible unity that should link the warrior of the tribe in the face of the enemy. The men form an impenetrable barrier: they are as one man, one will be animated by a single rhythm."

As one would expect, the movement of the flat ride during this section goes both forwards and backwards. The cars at first spin in different patterns to each other before coming together for one unified final dance that lasts about thirty seconds. The room is lit in shades of blue and the soundtrack is represented by chanting.

Room Three:

The Dekka:

"The people who perform this rhythmic entertainment are not professionals. The strange orchestra composed of craftsmen and merchants of Marrakech is made up entirely of earthware drums of different dimensions. The ceremony starts with simple and rather solemn rhythms, and then the cadence of hand-clapping accelerates. High and lower pitched beats on the drums are cleverly orchestrated and the men start singing powerfully in chorus. The rhythm changes suddenly from time to time, but it is all amazingly well- regulated. The general impression is an explosion of joy, a sonorous enchantment that seems wild but is disciplined."

longhorns.jpg

Drums are the primary instrument of the soundtrack here. The dance starts with the cars rotating loosely to simulate the non-professional nature. The spinning gets faster and faster as the dance gets more and more complex. Lighting will be black and red as this dance is a bit more serious.

The Guedra:

"The women dancers kneel and are completely covered with a black veil. The steady rhythm like a beating heart brings out the hands that describe vivid and expressive motions. The head is revealed, with eyes closed, swaying like a pendulum. The rhythm is supplied by a "guedra" or cooking pot (an earthware drum covered with skin). It becomes pulsating as the dancers continue to speak their mysterious language. The singing of the spectators changes to brief and guttural cries. The dancer gradually casts off her veils and finally collapses in a heap."

GeudraStanding.jpg

Black lighting continues here and we hear cries from onlookers and the percussion changing from drums to the pots and pans variety. The motion is very back and forth, with the separate arms of the spinner going from one side to the other. The black lighting gives way to a rainbow of color as we enter the final dance.

The Fantasia:

"This colorful display of horsemanship begins with a procession made up of women from the Zayaan tribe on horseback. Behind them come, their menfolks in groups according to their tribe and bearing each group's emblem. When this "lap of honor" finishes, it gives way to the real Fantasia, the Aid el Broud (Festival of Gunpowder) with its gun-fire and bursts of shots.

The horsemen line up in close ranks, and no sooner has one wave of riders left than the next is ready to follow; the impression is that of surging waves of galloping hooves. The frenzied dash of horses is accompanied by the piercing cries of the riders and terse orders from their chief until the whole thing explodes in a blaze of gun-fire from their famous "moukhahla", the rifles that are so highly prized by gun collectors. And when the riding is over, then another kind of show begins on a platform that has been erected in front of the huge marquees."

A kaleidescope of different colors surrounds us in this last dance. We hear the gunfire and stomps of horses, but besides that the soundtrack is silent and naturalistic. We spin in a rapid and persistent pace and every time a shot fires off we do a complete 360* rotation.

Contestants, you have 40 minutes to submit an AoI Concept should you choose to.

In addition, only about 2 days remain in the CC challenge for @Matt7187, @JokersWild, and @jdmdisney99. Just as a friendly reminder, only Japan, Mexico, and The American Adventure remain as options.

Don't forget, this challenge is huge....only one person is guaranteed safety so far, while another will be sent home. Lastly, the winner's reward going forward might just be game-changing...

(Also, just to clarify on the immunity twist, what it does is just make sure the winner, now confirmed to be RM, safety. He will still be ranked, so there is a possibility he can get first place and win the reward, but he can also get last place and thus the second to last place finisher will be eliminated ;) :))

Aspects of Imagineering: The Return of DreamFinder

After the legendary "Hatbox Ghost" made its grand re-entrance into Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, many hardcore Disney fans have speculated on what other beloved and long-lost icons of Disney parks the company would be willing to give a second life.

HBG462015.jpg

One of the most popular and persistent theories is the possibility of the beloved Dream Finder character returning to Journey Into Imagination. For this Aspects of Imagineering challenge, I decided to go a realistic route and step into the companies shoes, assuming it might be a big risk to put the character permanently back into the attraction. Of course it goes without saying that the actual attraction NEEDS a major overhaul, so let's hypothetically say this new Dream Finder Streetmosphere will prove to be a testing ground for how popular the character is with a modern audience and how much of a presence he should have in whatever new version of the attraction they decide to eventually produce.

Dream Finder's iconic "dreamcatcher" vehicle will be slightly redesigned to work as a street vehicle complete with wheels in addition to the wings. Every two hours or so, Dream Finder will appear in the Dreamcatcher to a fanfare with Figment on his shoulder.

dreamfinder-figment1.jpg

Figment will be controlled by an unseen cast member from within the Dreamcatcher and will be able to talk and interact with guests in a manner very similar to the Turtle Talk technology, but with an added layer of intimacy with him being live in person. The Dreamfinder actor will take on the classic traits of the character, encouraging kids and adults of all ages to use their...

Arvid the Great & Dagny the Troll
only at Norway, Epcot

norse-viking-warrior.jpg

Daily throughout the day Arvid the Great will appear in Norway. Arvid will entertain guests as he interacts with the guests appearance and their technology. He would ask plenty of questions to his magic companion Dagny the Troll about the guests. Dagny views herself as the loveliest troll in the country, and smarter than anyone else. She will always give sarcastic playful responses to Arvid, but still be wrong. This is due to the fact she doesn't fully know either about these new humans. If a guest tries to correct she will become flustered and pretend to know that too.

When they are not interacting with guests they will commence with playful banter about each other.

United_Kingdom_street_at_Epcot.jpg

An all new, exciting streetmosphere experience is coming to Epcot in the form of Doctor Who!

doctor-who-logo.jpg

A costumed character, of The Doctor himself, as well as his companion will stroll the streets of the United Kingdom pavilion daily.

The Doctor's Companions:
companions.jpg

Different interactions will include The Doctor and his companion asking questions to guests, signing autographs or taking photos with guests, all while staying in character.

doctorwho-capaldi.jpg

For this theoretical situation, special rights will be given to Disney where they are permitted to have costumed characters roam the pavilion. Let's not have another Tintin here. ;)

Finally, The Doctor will "reincarnate" along with the television series as well as his companion. This means that when the Doctor dies and and is reincarnated or if the companion is changed, the costumed characters will change with it.

Thanks for reading my submission! :p;)
