Body work is insane. With our 2007 Chevy Aveo, (about 4 weeks ago) a fool in an SUV backs out of a parking space (not looking . . .) right into the passenger side of our car. Guy got out, admitted it was his fault, etc., exchanged insurance information. We took the car to a body shop repair place and the estimate was $1,500. (Hubby said that years ago, they'd just use a tool to pop out the dents. But now I guess the cars are made of different materials, and they have to replace the entire door, and then have to match the paint color to the car.) What a freaking waste of money, time and effort all around.

Yes, and also unibody construction is much more expensive to repair than the old body on frame.

For anyone that might be interested... :)

Mine was awful as well. Unfortunately, it looked exactly like I do. Try as I might I cannot blame the camera or the passport.

Ha! :joyfull:

I don't remember if I ever told this story or not. If I did, may I apologize in advance. If it didn't... here goes.

Last October I was in a parking lot getting ready to get in my bus to drive. When a lady, that was driving one of our company vans backed into the front of my parked car. The van she was driving had external mirrors on both sides and a center mirror that pointed out the rear window. On top of that it also had a perfectly operating back up camera. In spite of that she managed to do $2500.00 damage to my Cadillac. I only used the brand name because it really doesn't take much damage to run up a hefty bill on that car.

Anyway, the situation was that the van belonged to the company I worked for, the lady driving was a fellow employee and I was there to start my shift. We called the police, of course, and had a report filed. I then contacted my employer to clarify what they needed from me to get this taken care of. I was told that I needed to get two estimates and that they would pay the lowest one. First problem with that is in the state of N. Carolina, it is the damaged parties decision where the repair takes place, not the guilty party. And it doesn't matter if the first one is $200.00 and the second is $2000.00, it is my choice.

I have been taking care of my car like a family member. It's a 2005, with comparably low mileage and it is my retirement car. I'm hoping to make it my last purchase. I have sunk a lot of money in it to keep it in like new condition. I wasn't about to just let anyone do the repairs on my baby. They kept insisting that they were going to pay the lower one and I was to sign a release to release them of any further responsibility. In other words, paid in full. Finally I just got fed up with arguing and told them that I was going to get it fixed and send them the bill and they were either going to pay it then or after we went to court plus legal expenses. The discussion ended and I got paid in full. The wording on the law is so explicitly clear that it is mind boggling that they continued to argue about it even after I pointed it out, section and verse!

How crazy. Knock wood, I take care of my cars too, they's 'spensive. :geek:

Did they live on a farm? I ask that because wasn't it common to have a lot of kids on farms or ranches to help out?

No farms in my families past. My Mom was born in Chicago and they moved to Indiana, IL side when she was going to high school.

A good Irish Catholic Grandpa and a Gran that couldn't do much about Grandpa. My Great Grandparents had the dude arrested when he married Gran across state lines, a big no no when the new wife is 14 years old and he was just shy of 30. But they dropped the charges when it became apparent she was pregnant.:facepalm::facepalm: Should have left him locked up. Then again, I wouldn't be here, my Sis, my kids.....funny how that all plays out.

So, it's Monday ... which means it's Zander's night!
Our waitress, Erica, is in the D.R., so we were going to skip it this week.
Alas, Hubby had a hankering for nachos, so off we went.

1/2 price apps after 9:00, plus I brought home an order of beer can chicken for me and Adopted Son to split for dinner tomorrow.

Oh My! That plate of yummy Nacho's is beyond huge. Slurp! I would have been out after a section of that! :hungry:

Certainly beats the 100 calorie bag of Chex Mix I had for dinner (had a late lunch)

I'm so tired of trying to sell my house. The whole thing has been a giant hassle. I've been trying to sell my house for a year now. Last month a pipe came apart in the attic and flooded the master bathroom and basement. The master bathroom was destroyed. Had to put in new ceiling, flooring, and vanity. It's a shame cause the bathroom had a beautiful antique vanity. Dealing with the insurance has been a nightmare but luckily they are finally paying for the damages. I'm just ready to get this house sold and be done with the thing. Ugh!

So, some guy "bumps" me at a red light today, and his front licence plate bolts pierced my bumper. (In case you didn't know, Ontario cars must sport front and rear plates.)

Very minor, but as you know my car is quite new.
Nissan's estimate is $926.74. Dude doesn't like it. Wants me to get a second estimate.

Dude. You hit me. The car is less than 21 months old. Plus, it's a lease.

I am only going to get fixed at a Nissan approved body shop, so that it is not held against me when I trade it in.

Not sure how much effort I want to put into this.
Irk me some more and I'm just going to make it an insurance claim.

these prices in the north are insane.
Most of the stuff I need for my car is lower than 100 USD over here.
the most expensive? 250 USD (and that is with labour, which is changing the engine's holding tubes)

Same deal here in MD.

Moron.

I don't blame you, though; we get all the service on our cars done at the the dealer. Won't even get an oil change elsewhere. The lawyer in my family agrees with you on that. If he refuses to pay, go through the insurance. He deserves it if he wants to be a hard head.
I always imagined that having the license plates in both front and back was the norm. go figure!

Doesn't take much to cause a lot of damage. I had this happen back in the fall. A professor hit me when my car was parked (and I was standing right there) and then went into the building as if nothing happened. I called security out. They didn't believe me until they came out and saw the paint from her car on mine (and vice versa). Then they checked the security footage. Yup. They contacted the professor and gave her our contact info. We got a quote and had a check within a week. It was over $500 worth of damage, and you could barely even see it. Does not take much.
These kind of "accidents" are very usual in parking lots in malls over here... :(

my car is full of dents due of that.
rude people just dont give a carp and swig their doors with full fury.
