Some of it is just experience. The longer you drive, the more you realize people are rude and don't give a darn about the right of way. And then you learn to be observant and predict when someone is going to do something stupid.

Yep, this is another of my pops that refers to the stupid factor...
"If your drivin' down the road assuming that guy waitin' to pull out from the side road sees you and couldn't possibly pull out directly in front of you, think again."

When my kids were minors they knew the car was a privilege and respected that to drive the cars they were given, they are now their cars. We maintained them because we wanted them to be safe. We insured them because they could not. They worked, they paid gas and their own entertainment.
I got my first car when I was 17 (not a new one) and it was financed through my Father, but, I made the payments. I paid for all repairs and if I didn't, I simply was not allowed to drive the car until I could afford to fix it. It was insured under my Fathers name and he paid the premiums, BUT, I had to give him the money to pay them. At one point, I had a car sitting there in the yard, screaming at me to drive it, it was being paid for (by me) and the insurance was paid in full. However, until I could find the money to pay him back for the premium, it sat in the driveway. It was the most painful two months of my entire life, however, it did teach me of the importance of taking responsibility of my things and have never missed an insurance premium since then nor driven without coverage.

In all fairness, when I'm working, I don't get home until 9:30 (or much, much later) during the week.
For years, Hubby had the kids fed, bathed and waiting in bed for me to read their bed time story.

Now they're late-teenagers who eat what they want/when they want.
Except for tacos, which they eat for 3 days straight, they don't eat what I cook anyway.
I still eat what my mother cooks. It's one of the benefits of being a commuter in college. Her food is 10x better than anything I can get on campus.

It's not a big production every night, though. Sometimes it's whatever can be thrown in the oven. My dad does the grilling. I do the dishes.

It's rare that we eat out anymore. Every now and then. But pretty much, eating out is reserved for vacation.

With my ds's and my food allergies the only place we feel it's safe to eat out is Disney. Besides not going out means more money when we get down there!

Disney is awesome when it comes to food allergies.

I'm okay eating out most places because basically fruit and nuts are avoidable, but gluten-free has to be tough. I'm sure Disney is extremely accomodating.
