My dad is a character.

A few weeks ago, he got frustrated with his phone. I suggested that he buy a new one, since his is a hand-me-down from my mom that she didn't want anymore because it was absolute carp (and still is). "I just bought a new car; I don't want to spend anymore money." Fine. Okay. Seems reasonable, even though I showed him an inexpensive phone that would work for his needs so that he would stop complaining to me every time his phone doesn't work.

Fast forward to today...he's in his office on the computer
Dad: Come look at these Jungle Cruise napkins!
Me: I thought you weren't going to spend anymore money.
Dad: I wasn't, but it's 28% off, and they're Jungle Cruise napkins! I also want this trashcan salt shaker and this artwork.

Yeah. Won't buy himself a decent phone, but gotta have those Jungle Cruise napkins!
Priorities is all I can say. I would have gone for the napkins myself.

You know what's funny?
You could have drinks with umbrellas for the adult and games like they play at dinner in Ohana.

Yes. Good ideas!

Well this birthday, for the adults I am busting out my jimmy buffet margaritaville margarita maker. And if you have ever played the game cornholes, we will have that setup in the backyard as well. And of course some good beer selections.

Oh yeah. And the kids will have stuff to do as well. :p

I'm kind of the same way. I could really use a new phone too, but I don't want to buy a new one too expensive. But then I will spend money to go somewhere like Disney kind of spur of the moment.

Sounds like a good time as long as you break out some Buffett tunes along with that margarita maker.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
What happens at Ohana stays at Ohana.
Unless, of course, you insist on keeping the photo on the fridge ... FIVE AND A HALF YEARS LATER!

And yes, those are Lego magnets, purchased at DTD. Sadly, no longer available due to the tiny magnets being a choking hazard.
The Lego brick - no problem.
The minuscule magnets - choking hazard!

I see your dilemma. On your next trip to WDW, eat at the Spirit of Aloha show and get a picture with one of the cute fire eaters or dancers.

Then put that bad boy on the fridge.

I showed him a $30 flip phone that I could probably get even cheaper off of Amazon. He says, "I want one like Mom's." What he meant was a bigger screen. So I show him the other option. "I don't need a new phone," he says.

Yeah, because the fact that his phone vibrates for no reason in his pocket, unlocks itself, randomly dials people, and randomly turns itself off isn't reason enough to get a new phone.

I just think he should have gone with the honest reason..he doesn't want to spend money on a new phone.

Maybe he is intimidated by the new phones. My dad doesn't like how small the numbers are and he can't see some of the features. If he likes your mom's phone, maybe she can give her phone to him and she can get a new phone.

Yeah, I feel that as long as my phone works I don't need a new one. Never mind that the main button takes repeated stabbings at it to get it to go, only on of the little speakers work, the battery doesn't last long, I can't get some of the new apps because they aren't compatible. I will continue to put up with it because it still works, and if I upgrade I lose the current plan I have. But I just don't want to put the money out. It is a little irrational but hey that's me! ;)

Have I mentioned how much I hate the cold?

I've had a cold this week. So far, only minor asthma symptoms (as in doubled up on the controllers and inhaler as needed).

Had to go out in the cold today. By the time I got back in, I was wheezing. Now I'm on nebs every few hours.

I am moving to Florida after graduation. So moving to Florida.

We've talked about that. Mom won't give up her phone. Which is probably for the best. It already took me a while to teach her how to use her phone, and ATT doesn't have inexpensive Samsung phones like hers right now. It's more that he doesn't want a small, flip phone screen because his vision's so bad. Of course he can't see his current phone's screen, but anyway...

He's got an Android phone. The phone I showed him was the same one I have. It's not that different from the one he has; it's just an HTC instead of being off brand (I told him absolutely no more off-brand cell phones). It's actually bigger than my mom's and more similar to the one he's got. After I showed him mine, he said, "I don't need a new phone." I can't figure it out other than he tends to use things until they absolutely break.
