Your comments really caught my interest, as we also had quite a few outdoor rinks when I was growing up as well. The town I grew up in, had a huge outdoor rink and it was free to residents. (I remember my first double runners when I was about 4 years old, trying to skate on that rink! :))

A few weeks ago, I was watching a rerun of Chuckmas (Chuck is a chef from Montreal on the Cooking Channel). About 2 years ago, he had a Christmas special that gets repeated each year. It's a really nice show, because they highlight not just the food, but his family and where he lives in the city, the shops, and winter activities. Anyway, what amazed me were the number of outdoor rinks spread around the city neighborhoods. Hockey is so big in Montreal, and it's not uncommon for anyone to just drop by at any point and join in a neighborhood game of hockey. What a nice community effort they put forth in Montreal, with all these open rinks, at no cost to the skaters. :happy:

It's a Canadian thing.
In my city, there are at least a dozen free outdoor rinks, hundreds of backyard rinks, and 7 or 8 pay-to-use indoor rinks.

Yeah, you'd think I know who won ... except I was too busy playing taxi.
I think it was Bro #3.

On NYE, we play really cheap, so no one goes home at the end of the night feeling bad. Also, we let the kids play,
$5.00 for a buy-in of 250 chips vs the regular $20.00 for 200 chips. That makes it 2 cents/chip vs 10 cents.
Most of us were even, one or two were down $5. Terry was down $10. Jamie was somehow up $20.
Like I said, low stakes. No real big winners or big losers.

On real poker nights, the max you can buy in is $50. Again, no one is losing their mortgage money.
On the other hand, even though I'm not a gambler, I won't play if there's no real money on the table. People play totally differently if there's no $ at stake. It totally skews the entire flow of the game.
You wanna see the flop ... you should have to pay. Even if it's only a dime .

White Toast with Crust on = Achiever, needs to be acknowledged with positive attention

Toast cut into triangles = Perfectionist, short tolerance level for others

Thin, Whole grain toast = Protector, finds self worth by becoming the Savior

Toast cut in Equal halfs = Trendy, never is satisfied with life picks at others

It is bad luck to eat chicken on New Years Day, said to make you scratch in the dirt (poverty) looking for your next meal all year.

Good thing @donaldtoo opted for Daisy Duck. :rolleyes:
