I do not believe I remember seeing this poll represented before and there is a good bit of love/hate out there on the latest iteration of the end of SSE. BUT I got to thinking about whether opinions are formed based on having or not having ridden the older version. SO...here you have it.

Jeremy Irons and I did ride his version. I remembered there was a poll taken at WDWradio years ago and had to look it back up... Irons beat Cronkite 55% - 25%. Dench got 17% , Dobkin 3% with a total of 520 voters. Jeremys, there was something special about the narration and scenes that set it apart. Although Cronkite had that special tone/ quality to his voice.

To be honest I wouldn't be able to tell you the actual narrator but the other version I remember was when I rode in 1998 and there were show scenes of the future... But, those show scenes if I remember properly are actually real-life now, the technology is now around? So I assumed they changed them because they were no longer relevant?

Jeremy Irons version opened late in 1994 so that should be the one you experienced. My favorite version personally.

Of the three options, I chose Jeremy Irons.
Unfortunately my opinion is skewed because I only vaguely remember the Cronkite version...all I can remember definitely is the "Tomorrow's Child" song with a video playing on moniters, that reminded me of a Sesame Street music video.

And I'm far too young to remember the Vic Perrin version...Cronkite's SSE debuted two years after I did. ;)

I've seen them all, but, I am torn. Since we are talking about the ending, the current one is the best in my opinion. The others always seemed disjointed and just put there to give one something to look at.** As for the overall ride, Walter Cronkite is/was the best, but, his voice could make a nuclear attack sound soothing.

** It's hard to concentrate on the scenes when one is falling backwards off a cliff. At least the new one gives you something to take your mind off that part of it.

The Irons version was a "smarter" narration with more substance. I feel some of the lines were dumbed down in the most recent rendition.

I can almost recite the entire Irons version from memory. The Dench version is not memorable for some reason.

As far as the ending, I feel the new ending was another band-aid and lazy attempt to "plus" an attraction that didn't need it. If the ending needed a change, it need more thought than just slapping a TV in the car and playing a silly game that's old after 1-2 times. The use of LCD screens should not be used in E-ticket attractions or really at all. It's just a cheap "look over here" time waster to save money on real theming and substance.

Walter hands down out classed all of them. The current version is soooooo bad compared to all the previous versions. At least the sleeping monk has remained.
Last time I was there, he wasn't snoring. I used to hear the snoring as we passed by. Maybe just a temporary glitch, but, I did notice it. The only thing I really miss is the city scene as you start down or just before, don't remember exactly.

I prefer the version with the paper boy not yelling at the wall.
Also, Jeremy Irons for sure. I never rode the Walter Cronkite version, but Jeremy Irons has a very soothing voice.
The new version is just, 'duh, you're all idiots'.
Also, the screens were funny the first time... not any more. Bring back the classroom of the future!

The thing is that they moved the boy to the street scene where he would or should logically be in keeping with the story. We, as riders on a time machine, would not be seen or be targets of paper sales. We, to them, do not exist.

I admit that I was baffled, at first, but then it just made more sense to do what they do now. If you think about it, when they originally designed that scene, someone in imagineering had a bad day and didn't think detail. So they corrected the mistake and have received all kinds of grief for doing so. So much for the old days being perfect.

Oh, and btw, compared to Cronkite, Irons sounds like a screeching teenager at a rock concert. :)

Bumping this up for some more votes.

Sorry about not including Cronkite folks but even though I rode it I have no recollection of it as I was in WDW with a girlfriend in my teen years and...well, my mind was elsewhere LOL, so it did not register for me to add to the poll.
