yea I could make more per hour at my local mcdonalds. I drive the 40 minutes because I like working for the mouse.
You work for the mouse right now?

Sometimes I check their IT postings and laugh. Every job requires super-genius level in 50 different specialties and 20 certifications.

isnt it a bit ironic? I mean.. due of how broken the MM+ system can be.

I wonder if any of the positions relate to an increase in maintenance staff. Would be nice to see a large uptick in major refurbs (similar to Splash recently). Almost all of EPCOT (minus Test Track) could use some TLC and same with a lot of DHS and the rest of MK.

More bus drivers are always welcome. It's funny how we keep hearing about lower hotel occupancy and inflated park attendance numbers, but this seems to imply that maybe there is real growth at WDW.
perhaps they expect the increase of attractions (including from Universal) will increase the load on their parks, infrastructure and hotels as well?

And the pay will still suck.
better a full job workers than seeing school guys getting exploited by working 18+ hours a day.

Fair enough, no doubt there are a boat load of opinions about the way into the future for such a beloved place as WDW.

We used the MB last month for the first time and we thought it was a great improvement to the previous way things were done at WDW. The MBs were used for FP, room keys, DDP, park tickets and forms of payment, not once was there an issue. They worked perfectly for all 5 of us.

I also think the parks looked great, we hit all four multiple times the week we were there and used all forms of Disney transportation. Everything ran on time and was clean, and with the exception of one jerk at Epcot all the CMs were great as well.

Seeing the new construction at DTD, AK and the Poly was cool as well. I am excited to see the outcome of those projects over the next few years.

Most of the feed back I see regarding MB from folks who have used them is on this forum, I would guess that is different from the "average" guest at WDW who most likely is not cruising Disney forums. I wonder what their view on MB is.
Glad your visit great and you had a good time. Come on back soon. I have family staying on property this week who are not as pleased but are still enjoying Disney. They opted out of the bands on day two. and Being local here in FL I associate with folks at many levels with Disney. The positive "stats" are manipulated and much negative news and surveys never see the light of day. But after much $ the system is getting better. If you happen to get a post trip survey from the Mouse you will see how the survey is constructed to elicit anything but negative responses. Spin worthy of politicians.

Your assumption is flawed in that it assumes that the money spent on MM+ would have gone to park improvement and new attractions. MM+ was a TDA inititative which means TDO was not involved in how the money was spent.
I did not assume anything. I know full well who makes the decision way out west. I disagree with the decision. Simple as that. I also disagree with ripping out trees from the parks and removing guest comfort items like hundreds of benches. That also is not flawed but an opinion.

Did anybody watch "Suzy" the bus drivers video on the disney.jobs website? It reminds of a hostage video where the captors force the victim to say something nice about them. It also tells the story of how they fill up a bus with a bunch of Disney balloons and pick a family to have the bus all to themselves. Does this actually happen? The story has many grammatical errors as well which is odd for a Disney site.

I do have to say I did check out the disney jobs site because I was curious but I didn't watch any of videos.

The story about the balloons on the bus was written on the side, not in the actual video. Ive never heard of that. Check out the video though. its odd to say the least.

I want to retire in Orlando and be a Captain of the one of the Friendship boats that run from EPCOT to HS. I want cruise along the waterway telling cheesy Disney jokes to the passengers all day. I told my financial planner that I want to buy a house in Golden Oaks and have enough money to be a Disney boat captain and not worry about the pay by the time im 50. He seriously thinks Im insane, and he lives in Florida and is one the people that live there and could care less about Disney. I told him MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

I worked in high school to save money to help pay for college. I guess I was exploited. I don't think so but I'm glad there are people on the boards who think teenagers shouldn't work but then should go to college. How can they pay for it? I guess loans. Let's make all the kids get into debt they can't afford and will never get out of. I found work was a good thing. It made me realize I needed an education not only college buy beyond. Get a good job and live the good life. I can tell you this the work ethic pays off and it starts as a teenager.

*sigh* I wish I could live on $8/hr

Attractions Hosts and Hostesses roles receive a starting rate of $8.15/ hour.
Monorails Hosts and Hostesses roles receive a starting rate of $8.95/ hour.

some day I'll go back.

Heck, I would love to go back to WDW before school starts back up, and I jokingly told dh I could go down there and earn a little extra cash for the next month or so. Except that I'd spend every dime of that and then some on surviving down there so the earnings would be a wash. Too bad I don't already live down there.

Huh, who knew? I'm surprised by that.
I think they had a problem with people getting trained, quitting and going to work for the competition because they were offering higher pay for disney housekeepers. I think they should just institute a 1 year non comp agreement from date of hire or transfer and let non experienced people try it.

That kind of noncompete for a low wage position would never, ever hold up, in my opinion.

That either IT management is trying to do way to much to too little staff, or they or the HR doing the recruitment has no idea what they are actually looking for and just list the 20 hot trends in IT. If it was for a small sized company, I can see looking for a generalist. But a company the size of Disney should have their staff somewhat specialized. The guys working on the mail servers shouldn't be the same guys running their antivirus solution.
I have a friend who is employed at WDW in a non-service position... they said that for a large, established company that things backstage are mass chaos. They expected some semblance of organization and protocol when they arrived.

To quote the CM who hired me back in 2005 to work at AK "People who come and work here who are fans of Disney, usually end up hating the place a few months later". After a few months, I understood exactly what he meant. The problem with the Disney employment system is unless you want to work a minimum wadge BS job that no one wants, there are no other opportunities in that company. For example, A friend of mine has worked at the company for 11 years in Attractions and because of all this FP+ nonsense, has started looking for a position working conventions. Turns out, the only real way to get one of those positions is if you know someone, who knows someone, who talked to someone once. That's why I had to laugh when Disney puts out their annual summer casting call. Just the same ol' positions as usual...Adventureland Attractions aka Jungle Cruise ;)
