Just one word about the opening ceremonies last night.... boring!!!! I actually fell asleep in the middle of it.
After the War and Peace segment the music was grating my nerves so I muted it. Then when they were rolling around in gears (like a bad Cirque du Soleil) I turned it off. I caught some highlights this morning. They could have done a little less with the political history. I did see the Olympic ring fail and the stray dogs that actually made it into the stadium.

You missed the fall of the Soviet Union being represented as a little girl losing her balloon.:banghead: And jellyfish dancing to Swan Lake for some reason.

I missed a bunch of posts but am too tired to catch up. But didn't want to forget to post this lite anecdote

We ate dinner at Captain's Grill - it was yummy. For those who have eaten there, we were at the first table on the left - which is practically in its own room. So while eating one of the overhead lights burned out, making it significantly darker in our little room. When the waitress came over she immediately noticed and jokingly asked, "what happened here??". So I replied, "I think Meg forgot to pay the electric bill. It's her fault".
Did she understand?

One Little Spark...
Ralph Lauren was the designer, and usually, I like love his designs (never over=the-top, just classy). However, the large designs and bold colors were a turn-off for me. I didn't mind the sweater style being featured, it was just the larger-scale, bright designs that were disappointing.
The US design looks like Sam the Eagle puked all over our athletes.

I turned off the opening ceremony. Repeat episodes of ancient aliens was far more interesting.

I heard also they are making series of "encounters" of aliens. I wonder if its worth it.

But I'll bet your aliens weren't dressed as funny as some of those athletes.
Are aliens even dressed?
I thought most "greys" are sort of naked or with simple gray suits.

all Olympics have had political stuff in them.
or at least show their story of fights, wins..etc..
they are all part of the history of nations anyway.
You cant blame Russia for pulling a PR stunts like that, when every nation does the same everyday too.

I actually liked most of the history segments. The Soviet era segment reminded me of the opening credits for a Bond film at times.

The American broadcast left a lot of things unexplained though because it honestly seemed like our commentators didn't care. So that probably was then transferred to the audience watching at home who lost interest too.

considering most newsoutlets of the west.. particularly CNN...
were too busy trying to sabotage the Olympics with fear factors (the whole terrorism, toothpaste bombs..etc..)
I am no surprised of what you said.
