Well WDW has Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid dark rides and shows. I wouldn't see it as a problem to have both in one park, a Lion King dark ride would be ideal for AK considering the park isn't lacking for thrill rides amongst its current offerings. The show celebrates the music of the film, a ride would focus more on the story itself. Failing that I think a Jungle Book dark ride would also be a good addition.

Wel, it wouldn't have to tell the same story. For starters, the show doesn't really retell the story, it just is a celebration featuring some Lion King characters. Second, the dark ride doesn't have to be a simple retelling of the plot of the story -- I could picture a good dark ride that woudl be about the "Circle of Life" in Africa and features the Lion King characters are your guides/hosts. That would make it fit into Africa and Harambe well.

Anyhow, DL has two Alice in Wonderland themed rides and two Dumbo themed rides within steps of each other. People don't seem to mind it.

Two attractions based on the same 20 year old IP, in the same park... STALE! Also, the two rides you mention are BAD! No, they suck. I actually give the Nemo dark ride a pass because it was shoehorned into the entry of the aquarium, (yes, I called it that). The Mermaid ride is just horrendous!! And that is the ride I think they would build again, only with a Lion King overlay.

I'll pass. Sounds fine in Fantasyland though...

DL also has a lot more different things to do than DAK.

I'm actually surprised we haven't heard of Disney wanting to make Timon and Pumbaa your guides on the Kilimanjaro Safari... TDO is good for dumbing things down like that...

Stale? The Lion King is not a stale IP by any means, the numbers it did during its 3D cinematic release are proof of that, it remains one of Disney's most successful and popular films and has more than stood the test of time. I'm not going to judge a hypothetical Lion King dark ride on the quality of other attractions, for me the film would translate extremely well to a classic Disney dark ride, would be a perfect thematic fit for AK and be very popular with guests. Its up to Disney to decide how good that attraction could be (if it were ever actually built), conceptually I think it could be an excellent addition to the park.

I went to see the Lion King in 3-D when it was released in theaters. I fully expected to be the only adult in a sea of children... and was surprised to walk into an almost full theater (at 2 in the afternoon) full of ADULTS. Only three children in the theater.

The Lion King is not anywhere close to being stale. Have you seen the Lion King screen printed clothes at the department stores (namely Target, Kohls and Walmart) ? They can't keep them in stock.

I agree with Frank, it would be an excellent addition to the park. Any park. All the parks.

No. I'm aware of the success of LK. I mean having the two attractions in the same park would be stale. Lion King Land!
I feel that "classic Disney dark ride" is the problem with the Little Mermaid ride. Sure, we all like the old rides, but isn't it time to move on from them? Think 7DMT. Peter Pan is certainly fun and popular, but think of what it could be.

Out of all the Disney classics, Lion King definitely has the feet... err, paws, to stand on it's own. With how vast the movie(s) are, there could be an entire "land" there.

In regards to the dark rides... the LM ride really can't be compared to the classic dark rides. It's not.

I see your point about Peter Pan, but again, they're working with limitations. That ride could use a good hard cleaning and could be completely redone and wow our socks right off, with the exact same ride system.

I don't think so, no. The concept of the classic Disney dark ride isn't "old" to me, I like that the parks have a mix of attractions and think that the dark rides are the perfect way to celebrate Disney's most classic films and characters.

It is sad that as time goes by, more dark rides are shuttered than opened giving one the feeling that they are going the way of the dodo. Classic well done dark rides are a large part of the magic. DAK really only has Dinosaur and that can't be considered family friendly.
