Disney history isn't an intellectual property. It's not like Walt Disney owned 1920's LA. What else would you expect Iger to say? He's not gunna go and say "the park failed because it was crap and we built a park about present California in California" He's gunna say stuff about the magic of Disney lacking and how the park needs more pixie dust. I'm not saying IPs wouldn't bring the crowds in, but if they built originals as we'll DCA 2.0 would be just as successful. Soaring is a guest favorite at DCA and it's not based on a single IP. Most guest favorites in every Disney park aren't IP related.

So I guess Epcot was a failure when it first opened?

Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean and Space Mountain are very popular attractions at MK, but were not based on an IP at all. Splash Mountain is popular and based on an IP the Disney denies the existence of. A lot of people feel the Enchanted Tiki room and ExtraTERRORestial Alien Encounter were both made WORSE by the addition of a Disney IP. Cars land is extremely popular and based on a Disney IP, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden eye is one of the best rides in Disneyland and is based on an acquired IP.

So in the end it doesn't appear the Disney IP gaurentees success.

"Chock full of Disney IP?" I don't think we are operating under the same definitions of what an "IP-based" land constitutes. Naming things after obscure characters doesn't automatically make something IP-based. That would be like saying you could re-name Yake & Yeti, "Baloo's BBQ" and Kali River Rapids, "Mowgli's Raft Ride", changing nothing else, and you have yourself a dedicated Disney's Jungle Book Land.

BVS is designed via its architecture, walkaround characters, original window displays, etc., to evoke a romanticized, "never was" version of historic LA as it related to Walt Disney, not the specific setting of a Disney movie (which would make it "IP-based"). You could use totally different (original, made-up) names and the land's effect would be unchanged.

EPCOT was huge hit with the public when it opened (doubling attendance and lengthening stays at WDW). Almost no Disney IP. Just a great vision, well-executed. Similarly, Tokyo DisneySea was majority non-Disney IP in its first five years. Another huge success from the outset. Facts, not speculation.

I go yearly. 10 day Park Hopper passes. One day, 5-6 hours max. @ DAK.

The completion of Pandora, a night time safari, and an evening show will probably extend our DAK time to 2 days - one morning (rope drop til just after lunch - Flame Tree Barbeque, Baby!) and a late afternoon/evening visit to see the night time show.

DAK may just remain my least favourite park, but I expect to enjoy it a whole lot more than we do now.

See, here's the thing. You don't know if all that is coming. No one here does. Yes, Pandora is coming. But what will it have? What's the ride going to be? Will it be more than one ride and a gift shop? It's easy to imagine grand things, but until we know more about what is planned, I wouldn't go making plans yet.

The other things you mentioned are possible, but they've been possible for years. Just because Pandora is coming does not mean a night safari and a nighttime show are. Those may be part of those lovely, yet never happening, Phase 2's.

Actually the safari and nightitme show HAVE been confirmed to be coming. Of course they could change their minds, but they have been announced.

Nothing is set in stone until construction is complete and it opens. The night safari, night show and Pandora were all part of official Disney releases so for now that is the plan. I think its fair to talk about what is part of the official plan until there is evidence the plan has changed. Otherwise we could never talk about anything still under construction.

Do you realize how many things were announced as part of the official plan that never came to see the light of day?

doubt it will happen...too many folks have to continue to say they hate this idea without ever knowing whats going into the land
reason number one why I have blocked a couple of people on this board

Sure. Plans change all the time. If you don't want to talk about anything until it's certain to be built than you should check back here in about 3 years;). We had a 100+ page thread on Carsland at DHS based on a rumor and some inside information. At least with the AK plans there were some official announcements.

Yeah, I am this surprises me also. I have searched the site every way I can think of and found nothing. There has even been another Reedy Creek permit in 2014 so they are definitely filing permits. I can't see anyway a project of this size wouldn't need a SFWMD permit. I am thinking it's going to have to pop up any day now so I am checking every day.

I never said it should not be discussed. I simply stated that no one should be terribly excited and making plans until we know more of what's coming.
