Is it cheaper paying for snorkel gear in advance or does it cost the same when paying for it on Castaway Cay?

You can reserve it ahead of time too. You will save money if you get a bundle like bikes, tubes and snorkels.
$45 at Sports Authority you can get the full works and use it multiple times without having to rent at a single location...I think it's worth it...that and not having to put something in your mouth that's been in others...just my two cents...

EDIT: ~$40 + free shipping on amazon

True. We bought clearance big-store stuff for our first foray into the snorkel lagoon at CC. Leaked like a sieve. Last September hubby & I invested in good masks from the local dive shop. Perfection. Doesn't take many visits to pay for itself, that's for sure. ;)

Oh I don't remember. We didn't know what we were looking at when we bought them. Now I know how to check mask fit. Put the mask up to your face, suck in with your nose to pull it snug to your face, then pull it back off. If you had a good suction and got a little "pop" when you pulled the mask off you've got a good fit. ;)

I have US Divers stuff, as do my kids. I have used them all over the place and have been happy with them. One thing to look at is the type of fins. If you can, get stubby or travel fins. They are shorter, but pack easier. They don't provide quite the thrust has larger fins, but then you really don't need that if you are just snorkling and doing the occassional surface dive.

The wife and I did the getaway package which includes all day snorkel, all day tubing, and one hour of bike rental. I thought it was worth it. I had a wild hair up my saddle to go back in August. Therefore, I am looking to buy my own mask and snorkel.

Here is another tip. There is no deposit on the rafts and tubes. Why would there be, they can't be taken off the island. So, most people do not return them to the shack, they just leave they laying around. Many people also hit the island in the morning and then go back to the ship.

After 12 noon or so, you can find floats just floating around in the water. I would never take one from a chair, or one that is on the beack. But when they are clealy floating by in ocean with nobody near it, it becomes mine.

Do have to pay if we bring our own snorkle gear?? For the life preserver or using the area??
