Digital projection upgrades NEEDED!

Today I visited Voyage of the Little Mermaid (DHS) and America Adventure (Epcot), I had not seen either in a while and wanted to be get inside where it was warm(yes I said that about Florida) and have to say that both are in such bad shape film wise it is almost embarrassing! While I am sure VotLM is not long for this world, even still they could at least try and clean it up so it doesn't look like black snow is coming down whenever the film is up. AA is not as bad as VotLM, but still as one of the "must see" attractions it is still pretty bad. I know that going through the process is not a easy thing, but really by this time you would figure Disney would have this down enough to upgrade all the attractions.

Anyone (Martin) know if those are the last to get the upgrade?

I wish. American Adventure deserves better but its been getting worse for years.

Since the screen plays as a backdrop to the physical sets it was designed to be rock solid, the film even had larger registry holes to prevent it wobbling. I've seen the national park scene look like an earthquake it was so bad. Its hard to admire the patriotism of the cast members spiel when the projection is bouncing around.

When i saw The American Adventure in January, the film looked decent..but as Martin mentions, the national parks scene with Ted Roosevelt overlooking the mountains was a little wobbly.

VoTLMermaid though...i did not notice any issues with the screen content. I think that is likely because i was too busy being agast at the horrible show quality of the Scuttle in the queue and the *Under The Sea* rooms lighting issues.

SSE ....that first scene with the hunters and Mastodon is indeed dim. Perhaps a brighter bulb is needed in the projection unit?

AND then there's the film for One Man's Dream...faded, blurry, and the sound is garbled. It's shameful.

AND the 3D effect at Mickey's Philharmagic seems out of sync or something. It's often blurry too. :(

Soarin and Fantasmic are most definitely in need of a clean up whereas Captain EO can just go away and never come back for all I care :p

This is something that they need to do, and they have been updating some attractions so far (france). I would like to see Disney put in some 4k or even 8k projectors. For disney to do that, they will need to reshoot or render the current films into a digital file. Also they will need to add some reliable servers to house and broadcast the videos from.

They'd only reshoot if they wanetd to update the content. If they are 35mm prints the resolution for 4k is there, as well as 8k. The beauty of celluloid. That is to say if they have all the prints archived correctly.

Yea Soarin is the one I would like to see get fixed. I would rather them just update the whole film but that might be asking too much.
I haven't been able to check it out yet, but Spider-Man at IOA upgraded to 4k and they made a big deal about it. Not sure why WDW couldn't do the same.

My guess is the wait times for the ride. Disney seems to have this attitude of as long as people are waiting hours for a ride than it must be fine in its current state. Of course if a sponsor said they wanted to pay for the upgrade than Disney would be all over it since its not their money.

Reshoot to update, like they did with the Canadian one. Or if they did not archive properly, which I suspect for some of the videos that they have in the parks.

I'd like to see all projections in Disney parks upgraded to 48 FPS 1080p (Where possible). It really does enhance the experience!

1080p would be a massive downgrade over most of the property. The 70mm experience in most of the films from the 80s on property far exceed hd

To improve on it, Disney would actually have to make massive composite video walls to pack in the pixel count
