i can't even imagine planning a trip and sticking to a schedule during a vacation. don't forget it's also suppose to be FUN. Couldn't imagine sticking to a schedule as fun and relaxed. To each their own though, as long as your enjoy your time there....whatever works.

My question is for those who plan, what exactly are you planning? Is it just ADR's and what day to be at the parks? How detailed does it get?

I like the questions you asked, I'm interested in seeing what people actually plan besides ADR's and FP's. I read earlier where someone saw a guest with an notebook walking through the park. I couldn't imagine "working" off a notebook to tell me where I'm going and what I'm doing.

I have always planned, simply because we like a table service meal a day, and we must make reservations, otherwise, we don't eat! We're not park hoppers, so I do check out the crowd levels, EMH, and menus. I go on here for the latest info!:D I also check out allears.net for resort info. I watch youtube videos! Sometimes I buy a guide @ the bookstore. I guess I could never visit WDW w/o some kind of planning!;)

Our last trip came on very short notice. We booked one week in advance and really didn't plan a lot. We figured out what parks for what day the night we arrived, and that's about as much planning as we did. It was honestly one of the best trips I've ever had. Nothing holding us down. Freedom was nice for once. However, I wouldn't want to do this all the time. Also, we were able to get one or two walk up TS meals.

First off...I think if you're a seasoned Disney traveler and you prefer to wing it...you at least know the ins and outs of where you're going. i.e. unlike a newbie, you know your way around and can have a great time and great food regardless.

For me, I really enjoy booking ADRs and like having that set in stone before we arrive. We aren't typically park hopping people, so I do use the calendar when it comes out to decide which park we're hitting each day...and then plan our dining around that. Beyond that...we have our must do attractions in each park...but unless it's something where a FP is vital early (like TSMM or Soarin'), we tend to wing it...let's ride this...let's FP that...but no main plan.

Now, I know people who use a full scale touring plan for every visit...i.e. every single move of their day is choreographed according to that plan. It works for them, but it's not for me.

I have literally woken up one morning and decided to leave for Disney World by lunch. We only live a 7 hour drive away and my job being what it is, 7 hours in a car I can do standing on my head if necessary, that and the brass pass can make it a little quicker at times. So yes on a whim I have just up and left without any sort of planning other than 2 hours of figuring out what my 3 year old son would need.

We need time for things to happen.
Yeah we tried that "winging it" thing once or twice (never for a full vacation)...didn't really worked out...missed a bunch of stuff we wanted to do, wandered around aimlessly...nah that's for beach vacations.

I wish I had so much time on my WDW vacation that I COULD wing it for a bit...but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon so for us it's
Plan it up all the way.

I plan like a maniac. ADR's are pretty much a necessity but we have also had good success as walk-ups too. I plan and plan and then plan some more....then by the end of the second day at the world throw all that out the window and freestyle the rest of the trip:D! I think the planing is more of my way to build things up in my mind and is actually part of the vacation for me but I do not mind tossing it aside for the fun of just "winging it".

I used to be the big planner, each day maped out, EMH noted on the calendar, ADRs made. We did 3 trips like that. Then we did a couple of trips with minimal planning and had a great time too. Now that we take our RV we are not doing the TS meals, so no scrambling for ADRs. Unless Cooke's of Dublin changes from QS there will be no problems. We are doing a 12 day stay so we will have APs and can do PH without an issues. ( Hoping to catch a quick trip in Spring 2014 on the passes. ) We really now do the parks in a much more laid-back manner and really enjoy relaxing. Just being on property puts us in the right frame of mind to slow down and smell the roses. There is so much to experience other than rides  that we have missed in the past running from point A to point B.

We always plan, plan, plan. We enjoy the time, imagining what we are going to do, making ADR's to ensure we get our dining choice spot, gives everyone a say in what we will do, gets us excited, sparks Disney conversation. But most of all it helps the time pass as we have that endless wait until the days run down to jump off time.

Hi All! When "planning" your Disney trip, does anyone just go with the flow and let the trip take you where it feels like? Don't get me wrong, I have certain things I want to do when I'm on my Disney vacation but this trip we have coming up in April is pretty loosey-goosey; no ADR or anything like that planned.

We never plan ahead(except of course, the room and airline tics)...it's what we love about vacation. Get on the first bus that shows up at the resort and go from there.
