I think Wilderness Lodge is the best bang for the Deluxe buck. You get all the Deluxe amenities, and you get an charming, cozy, lovely resort! I know you love PO so you will LOVE WL! Also, you have an alternative mode of transportation to MK via the boat. Since it is not a monorail resort, or Epcot International Gateway Resort, and doesn't have something like Savannah views at the AK, its the best price point for a Deluxe. And like I said, its Gorgeous! :)

AKL only stayed there for one night but so many great memories. Dinner at Boma (Zebra Domes are awesome) walking around the resort, talking with other guests and cm's. The HUGE christmas tree in the entrance hall and waking up walking onto our balcony and seeing all the animals grazing in the morning sun.

If you're looking for most affordable deluxes, you're looking at Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge. But they are more affordable for a reason - I'm pretty sure the rooms are smaller compared to other deluxes, and you're entirely dependent on the buses to get you to the parks (except for the boat from Wilderness Lodge to the Magic Kingdom).

Boardwalk, Beach Club and Yacht Club are pricier, but the rooms are a bit bigger and you are within walking distance of 2 parks - Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

And of course the Grand Floridian, Polynesian and Contemporary are a bit pricier since they are on the monorail.

Unless being really close to a park is important, I agree with disneygirl76 that the Wilderness Lodge would be a great choice. Animal Kingdom Lodge is beautiful too - we stayed there in June 2011 and really liked it. :)

Wilderness Lodge is the best overall value, but you Beach and Yacht Club are worth consideration too. They are a bit more expensive but they put you closer to 2 parks and tons of dining options and other activities.

Whatever your theming preferences, you'll get a better value (e.g., pay as little as half as much) with rented DVC points than by paying rack rate -- making the lowest-priced DVC Animal Kingdom studios and suites, the nicely-situated and lively DVC rooms at Boardwalk, or the beautifully-themed Wilderness Lodge DVC rooms, the best value in my opinion.

I think it is the one you like the best. :)

For me, that is AKL. They all have their down sides and AKL's is the smaller rooms. But I just love that hotel. And it is on the cheaper side, as Disney hotels go.

I do think a lot of people will go to WL or AKL before other Deluxes just because they are cheaper. I pick AKL because I like it. :)

I have stayed at GF and AKL. GF was great because of being on the monorail. You can also see Wishes and the Electric Water Pageant from the boat launch. The rooms were cute and the lobby is Grand. I was there over Thanksgiving so the lobby was decked out with a huge Christmas tree and a life sized ginger bread house. The smell was delicious. There is a live band on the balcony in the evenings. The pool is just OK.The atmosphere is very highbrow. It is very pricey but that is because of it's location.

I stayed at AKL late 2011. The staff is outstanding and the atmosphere is exotic. From the smell of the woodburning stove in Jiko to the joyous sound of drumming, you feel like you are being transported to Africa. We were upgraded to a Savanna view at no extra charge. The lobby is breathtaking and the pool is very nice. There are plenty of activities outside in the evening and the view of the animals is awesome. Jiko's is my favorite Disney Restaurant by far. If I had to choose between the two I would go back to AKL. I am keeping my fingers crossed for my January 2013 trip to go to BC. I want to be close to EPCOT for this trip so I am tightening my belt to be able to make it. I have stayed in a Value resort before and it was just OK. I love Deluxe because of the extra touches of luxury.

In my opinion, it's the Boardwalk Villas. It is among the less expensive deluxe options on property, especially when using points, and the location can't be beat. On top of that, it's a beautiful resort with some of the best restaurant and bar choices in Disney. It's hard to do better than a dinner at Flying Fish, followed by a night of dueling pianos at Jellyrolls.

And, I know people hate on the clown slide, but I think it's hilarious to watch kids and adults being violently vomited out by a maniacal clown head, all from the comfort of the adjacent poolside bar.
