Naturally our next destination was Mike and Sulley to the Rescue!

This was actually a pretty fun ride! I loved the sequence with all the doors and where Boo is banging Randall on the head with the baseball bat, changing him into all of the various colors and designs. Roz is at the end and she says personalized things to people in your car which we loved! When referring to Samuel she said, "Young man in the front with the ears...I'm watching you, always watching you..." It was so funny!!

My kids are big Muppets fans ever since seeing the newly released movie. We browsed a shop nearby and I bought my son not with us a Kermit plush. He might be 12 but he still loves stuffed "critters" as he calls them. We were going to hit up Muppets 3D but DH texted me to tell me our ADR for Carthay Circle Restaurant was almost up.

On the way we bumped into Handy Manny. My kids don't watch Disney Jr (It was Playhouse Disney when they watched) anymore. They have grown out of it :-( But Sam was up for a character meet n greet and he had no line

Carthay Circle is a beautiful restaurant. I love the design. They stayed trued to the era big time! I loved the pictures on the walls, especially one in particular of Walt and Shirley Temple. We were there at the earlier part of the day so it wasn't busy. Our table was neat, it had subtle etching of Snow White's Evil Queen's head in the wood design. There were all kinds of very subtle, classy references to Snow White inside. Our seating host was happy to indulge us with history and musings of the restaurant. I enjoyed it!

I had the salad and gorditas appetizer as my entree
DSCN6569.jpg

DSCN6570.jpg

Mom had the hamburger
DSCN6571.jpg

Ben had a lamb pasta dish that was very tasty!

It was a more spendy meal but not overly so. We enjoyed it so much and none of us could finish our portions!

You know, Mike Wazowski doesn't know how to write his name either! What are they teaching these monsters in monster school and how did these two make it all the way to Monsters University?

LOL!!!

I love this trip report! You take some very photogenic pictures! You guys are a great family:)

Thank you very much! I feel like I have an eye for good pictures, but not always the technical ability! I have a fairly basic Nikon camera that I am still figuring out. It drives me nuts when my pictures end up blurry or have weird glares or people in them (not that you can help the last one at Disneyland!)

After a satisfying lunch, we thought we would head over and catch the next showing of Aladdin. We missed it though because someone (myself:oops:) was lagging behind taking pictures. This did not make DH very happy and we ended up with an argument. Basically it went like this...I would not have lagged behind had I known we were so close to show time, DH was sick of me lagging behind period (I do that when I'm in picture-taking world). It is not a nice thing to argue at Disney, but hey, it happens sometimes.

So we ended up going over to the Animation Academy instead, where we split up a little to explore (and cool down!).

On the way we met Jake!
DSCN6578.jpg

The Animation Academy has some wonderful surprises inside. We have never experienced it before. First, the great room with all of the projections related to whatever song they are featuring is so great. They show huge photo projections of various stages of animation from the featured film. While we were there we experienced a Lady and the Tramp, Tangled, and Up Sequence. I could have sat there all day, it was wonderful.

We also enjoyed the room with the sculpture thing that spins(I can't remember the name) and comes to life, it was amazing!! We skipped an animation class, but I think it would be worth experiencing if you ever aren't sure. These are unique to the Disney parks experience.

We headed into the human tank instead:

DSCN6580.jpg

Our Crush was fairly entertaining but I have seen better shows. It is all relative to what questions are asked, etc. I was surprised that he never came out wearing the bikini top on his head, it usually gets some good laughs. He did come out with a Buzz Lightyear, asking what it was, etc which was new to me.

After our visit with Crush, we went over to check out the wait times for a family favorite of ours, Soarin'.

Love this statue we saw along the way...supposed to be Walt first arriving in California with his ideas, right?
DSCN6581.jpg

The wait was probably about 30 minutes but it was HOT out so we decided to grab FPs instead and head toward Grizzly River Run.

GRR was like a 40 minute wait so we continued on to The Little Mermaid ride. DS insisted in riding but he whispered that I keep it a secret because he didn't want anyone to know he wanted to ride a "girl ride". I insisted it was not a "girl ride" but just a great ride ;)

We loved TLM ride! It was really great!!

As we got off, we heard some rockin' Phineas and Ferb music going on and my kids being huge fans, we stopped to enjoy the party. Mom sat in the shade.

The boys just loved Phineas and Ferb. I know some of the tween stuff is annoying to people without tweens but I am thankful that Disney has unique experiences that appeal to their age.

We were hot, sucking down water and searching for shade at this point. Our FP time was up so we headed back to Soarin' stopping to grab FP for Grizzly River Run on the way.

DSCN6604.jpg

I thought this sign at the bathrooms was funny
DSCN6603.jpg

DSCN6606.jpg

Soarin' was great as usual. DH refuses to be as Disney-crazed as me, so it made me giggle and smile that he knew Patrick the flight attendant's entire shpeal ;) Don't fight it I always tell him...

DH is an H-60 pilot (Coast Guard) so we love the sequence in San Diego. Hopefully it will be our home next year! It still remains to be seen...

At this point we all needed a heat break so we grabbed some more cold drinks (by the way we thought it was weird that some of the refreshment carts are cash-only while others aren't. I know the ones that take cards have to depend on a wireless card-swiper thing that sometimes goes down too...) We had some time to kill before our GRR FP time so we went over to the Grand Californian lobby to sit and rest

DSCN6611.jpg

DH was smitten with TGC, I was too. It reminded us how much we love the WDW resorts and why. What a wonderful hotel! And the direct access into Downtown Disney and California Adventure rocks! You cannot get that at any other Disney resort anywhere!

We got a great rest, the kids got to watch cartoons and we regrouped. Our FP time came up so we headed the short distance to GRR. Did I mention it is right outside the hotel? ;)

I just missed Grizzly Peak in this photo
DSCN6614.jpg

GRR was so fun! It is compared often to it's AK counterpart, Kali River Rapids but I would say they are two different rides. Although the ride vehicle and overall concept are the same, the rides are quite different. GRR is all about riding the rapids of Yosemite so that is what you do. It's bumpier, rockier, and more fun IMO. I sat by the door opening...don't do that or you will get a wave of water that crashes in right on you! Oh well, it felt awesome to get that cool wave of water!

Cooled down, we felt ready to head toward Paradise Pier. I had checked wait times for Cali Screamin' and TSMM and both were reasonable (15 and 30 minutes respectively)

DSCN6619.jpg

DSCN6620.jpg

I love the boardwalk, it is so fun! On our way DS wanted to meet Duffy the Disney Bear. I was so proud of him, he researched who Duffy was, and knew more than I did about him!

All I could think was, Lord that CM has got to be hot!
DSCN6622.jpg

Duffy had stickers for the kids' autograph books
DSCN6623.jpg

Then we saw a short line for Donald's meet n greet! I am nuts about all things nautical so this was right up my alley! And Donald is Samuel's favorite!
DSCN6627.jpg

DSCN6629.jpg

The meet n greet areas at Paradise Pier are so well themed.

So to Cali Screamin' we went! DH and I went by ourselves while Mom took the boys and queued up for TSMM
DSCN6630.jpg

Our wait was super fast because some nice guy had given DH his FPs. Then we hopped the ropes (yes we were those people) to meet her in the queue.
DSCN6631.jpg

Our kids are pretty well-behaved at the parks...but occasionally if the queue is longer than 30 minutes they get antsy and we have to separate them. This time I accidentally captured Aaron after Samuel had jabbed him in the back
DSCN6632.jpg

This picture looks so bad. I took it of Samuel who delivered the jab and he's smilin' away! Of course he's smiling!

TSMM is always a huge hit with our whole group. Even Mom on her first time was laughing away, having a great time

DSCN6635.jpg

DH and I are super competitive on this ride because we are pretty evenly matched. This time I won though!
DSCN6636.jpg

I also got highest score in the vehicle up to that point for the day!

DSCN6640.jpg

We considered Mickey's Fun Wheel and I had wanted to try out Goofy's Sky School but it was just too hot to try to hoof it over there. We were really anticipating Cars Land so we decided ice cream was in order as we headed in that direction.

Best root beer float ever!
DSCN6641.jpg

DSCN6642.jpg

Funny moment: We were sitting at Pacific Wharf under a nice shaded umbrella enjoying our ice cream when Aaron with his 7-year-old lisp blurts out: Wow Grandma, you killed yours! While the rest of us were maybe 1/3 done, my mom had seriously put hers away! It was just funny how Aaron said it :)

We thought RSR was awesome!!! We only ended up waiting 60 minutes, not 75 and we felt it was worth the wait! Honestly, it was amazingly done!

When we got off, we just explored and took in all the details. What an amazing job the Imagineers have done this time. I couldn't believe the detail! You really do feel like you are in Radiator Springs

While Mom hung out with the kids, DH and I ran over to Tower of Terror for a quick ride together

I like how this picture came out
DSCN6698.jpg

Another great ride! It was probably my second best drop sequence ever! DH even mentioned that it seemed more exciting than other ToT rides we've had. Hmmm!!!

We headed straight back to Cars Land

DSCN6699.jpg

DSCN6701.jpg

DSCN6703.jpg

It was about time to head over to the viewing area for World of Color. We had gotten FPs earlier in the day (one benefit to DH's early entry) and we were in the 'blue' section. When we got into Cars Land, Mom was with the boys checking out DJs dance party

DSCN6706.jpg

DSCN6708.jpg

The boys were digging the cozy cone drink cups that they were seeing all day long so we thought we would get them one. They were spendy! $9 for a small and $12 for a large! While the large was a better value, we just got smalls. It wasn't as much about the size, but the souvenir anyway. Geez. DH and I said that if they offered free refills for the day you purchased your drink cup, it might make it more worth the price.

They are really cute cups though!
DSCN6709.jpg

So we headed over to the viewing area and enjoyed the atmosphere. Everyone was sitting comfortably waiting for the show
DSCN6711.jpg

DSCN6714.jpg

I was really looking forward to World of Color! I had watched it on Youtube, and even watching it got me all teary. So I was really looking forward to seeing it in person! About 15 minutes prior to the show, a message came over the loudspeaker, mentioning that lights would be dimmed, use caution, etc. Then about 5 minutes prior to showtime, another message came over the loudspeaker and asked everyone to stand up. Stand up? Why on earth? Hmmm. I was really hoping it was a fluke and we would be asked to sit down again, but no luck. The show started and we couldn't see anything. It was the dumbest move ever by Disney. Maybe not ever, but I have to admit, I was so freaking ed!! We could see great when everyone was sitting, but with everyone standing only the tallest 1/4 of the people could see, excluding ALL children unless they were up on their parents' shoulders, excluding my 5'4" and my Mom's 5'2" of shortness. So all I saw was the highest 1/3 of the water show, no real projections :-( I was sooooo sad! To add insult to injury, DH and I were stuck with our 7-and 9-year olds on our shoulders. My arms fell asleep and both of our backs were killing us. I just wanted to get it overwith.

As a silver lining, our efforts did not go unnoticed. Halfway through the show as I was grunting and groaning with all 65 lbs of child on my shoulders, my son hugged my head and said, "I love you Mommy, I know you love me so much!"

And as a sidenote, DS's ears did blink with the show. Neat. I could care less! It probably would have been cooler if I had not missed the whole thing!

Great trip report. It has only been two weeks since the race but it already seems like it was so long ago. I didn't get a chance to see The Magic, The Memories and You. Between that Fantasmic and Magical, DL has a lot going on at night.

Well they had a lot going on! My understanding is that the MMY show is not going to be played anymore. Although I believe you can still see the ever evolving version at the MK.

I can't believe the race was 2 weeks ago either! Man how time has flown. Funny how it takes forever for your vacation to arrive and it's over in a blink of an eye. I guess that's why I take so many pictures ;)

Ok, so sorry to leave the report lingering on a somewhat negative note. I have been having trouble with my computer reading my memory card but we're back in business!!

Wednesday, Sept 5th: Park Hopping!

Today was our last day :-( But we were all up and in great moods, ready to take on the parks! Thankfully when we arrived all entrances were normal at Disneyland. No AP special early admission, etc, just the normal early admission from a few trickling resort guests. While we waited on Main Street, DH encouraged us to check out the cinema (something I have never taken the time to do before)
DSCN6715.jpg

Note here city and state, I love that
DSCN6721.jpg

My guess is that this is the inspiration for the shipwrecked Ms Tilly at Typhoon Lagoon:
DSCN6722.jpg

It was a circle theater with silent movies being shown, the soundtrack to one over the speakers. There was something very special about watching Steamboat Willie on Main Street in Disneyland

DSCN6716.jpg

DSCN6717.jpg

DSCN6718.jpg

I noticed holiday decorations on Main Street and second guessed it for a second...aren't they supposed to put up fall decor first? I asked a CM and they were getting ready to film a commercial spot
DSCN6723.jpg

We started out our land touring in Tomorrowland. It seemed there were things we'd missed and/or wanted to do again! Star Tours was a walk-on so we headed in!

We got the Darth Vader/Wookie Planet/Bounty Hunter Sequence. Chewbaca landing on the front of our speeder was hilarious!!

I left it out earlier but we had gone a separate time and gotten Darth Vader/Tatooine (pod racers)/Bounty Hunter before. I'm guessing the bounty hunter sequence does not swap out?

Anyway, Star Tours rocks! I love this ride and the surprises! We let the boys make light sabers, which was a big hit! Next we headed over to ride Space Mountain, another walk-on.

DSCN6731.jpg

I expected to get jerked around like at the MK but Disneyland's version is SO much smoother! Thank goodness!

DSCN6733.jpg

Mom went with Samuel because he wanted to go a second time. It had been drizzling so they had to cancel the first Jedi Training Academy of the morning. Instead they had the characters out for a meet n greet. Aaron got a little action from Darth Maul while he and DH were on their way over to ride Buzz. Unfortunately though, the actual line to meet the characters was closed. Missed character greeting #1!

DSCN6734.jpg

I stayed behind to wait for the other two getting off SM and we all met up after that.

DSCN6735.jpg

It was a fun morning in Tomorrowland! No one was really interested in anything else in Tomorrowland at that point. We never ended up riding the monorail and I would have liked to have done that. Oh well, something to experience next time!

We had our sights on some attractions in Adventureland that we had yet to do so we headed across the hub.

We had a GREAT Photopass Photographer! He even fixed the settings in my camera which helped me a lot!

I know people have varied opinions regarding the Swiss Family Treehouse vs Tarzan's Treehouse. In the past I hated that they changed a classic, but at this point it's kind of cool that you have a different experience on each coast.

Next we headed to the Jungle Cruise. It was getting warmer and was quite humid with the drizzle! We ended up waiting about 20 minutes in the stuffy queue.

The Jungle Cruise was a hoot as usual! After that we headed toward the Tiki Room. We stopped to check out the meet n greet where the characters from Aladdin hang out:

DSCN6783.jpg

The boys really enjoyed the show! It was a tad over-air-conditioned for me and I was shivering the whole time. Not exactly the best way to transport folks to the Islands...but it was super fun. Aaron was singing, "In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room..." the rest of the day

When we came out of the Tiki Room we checked the meet n greet and saw the Genie! Woop! Unfortunately the CM handler was at the end of the queue which as we have learned the hard way, usually means the character is getting ready for a break. Yep. Bummer! Missed character greeting #2!

After a quick bathroom break we snuck over to Frontierland to find lunch. Rancho del Zocalo looked good :)

DSCN6787.jpg

DSCN6786.jpg

And it was good! There were so many choices too. Lots of good, fresh food. DH and I had the fish tacos with rice and beans. I am extremely picky with fish tacos and these were very tasty! They had just enough spice but not so much that it overwhelmed the flavors.
