its still great to get to ride up front with the driver and in the back in DL. Had the chance to do both this past June. The kids loved it. Guess that might never come back to WDW.

Since I've never driven a monorail I can't be that upset about this.

The article DID say that the drivers would still be in place for enabling and spieling...just not in DIRECT control of the train. I'm sure there is a safety issue involved as well. I always wondered why Disney hadn't computerized the system any further than they had.

So is this a kind of start to a future Monoral expansion? Kind of like a pre-ferb? I would hope so, but am well aware the answer is most likely NO.

Wouldn’t that be a dream come true? With this new controlling idea I wouldn’t even expect new monorails for years to come. I think Disney is moving in the right direction and seeing what needs to be done in order for the “World” to move better.

At TDR the cab is in the back - so there is a front row seat in the Resort Liner as well for anyone to enjoy.

The article clearly states that pilots will still be present in the cab and will still be responsible for initiating movement of the trains, along with speils and (I assume) door controls. Its basically adding a drive component to the current MAPO system (if you have an adaptive cruise control system on your car, its something kind of like that), along with ability to monitor the location of trains along the beam.

Not really seeing how/where drivers are going "goodbye." Nor am I seeing a downside to any of this.

Thanks for typing this so I didn't have too. :)

The only downside I see is the continued removal of guests from the cockpit with the driver. At least we got to do this with our children before it went the way of the Dodo. :(

If even half of that article has any truth to it, it would be a wonderful thing! Disney's transportation has a lot to be desired. Yes - it's huge. Yes - they move a TON of people. But automation and the use of technology can make a HUGE difference, which could result in the "free transportation" seeming more like a perk than a nuisance.

If they go automatic people could ride up front again.

Not likely. I wish, but it will not happen again. They are just too gun shy. I know that it was bad enough with the driver dying that night, but could you imagine the nightmare for TDO if a family was even just injured, let alone killed? Wow. I am actually quite stunned that Disneyland is still allowing it. But I suppose their system is a shadow of the WDW one.

Speaking of, has Lansberry gotten another promotion lately?
