did you check your balance> If you have a card with a limit to 1,000 you can use lets say and you have spent 970.00 already i would NOT charge more than 10.00 because then you'll get hit with interest be over your amount get charged for being over etc etc.

I never leave a credit card open at the desk. I usually have a nicely loaded gift card (take a picture of the back of the gift card with your cell phone in case you loose it) and I carry my credit card. On my trip in April I gave San Angels my Debit Card to cover our cocktails and tip otherwise we were on the dining plan and I had given them also the room key card. When the receipts came for me to sign, they charged my debit card for the entire meal and nothing to the dining plan. Errr. It is stuff like that, that makes me nervous about an open credit going. Note also, they did ultimately credit my debit card but it took 5 business days for that money to come back to my checking account! Errrr.

And I believe they run your credit card overnight of your last night for just that reason, prior to putting that little check out good-bye on the door .

Actually, if you charge it to your room it's infinitely easier to fix. When you place a CC on your KTTW card you do just that. You place it there. It is not charged AT ALL during your stay until the night before you check out unless you either 1, tell us to charge it or 2, reach the credit limit for your specific resort. Even when you put your CC on your reservation we at the desk have no way to access you entire card number after we swipe the card and hand it back to you. This being true, you wouldn't have to wait for the credit to come back to your debit card because it actually wouldn't have been charge to any account had you put it on your CC. We could have easily transferred the credits to your DDP and backed off the money from the charge in the matter of minutes as long as you had your receipt showing it was done incorrectly.

I HIGHLY recommend that anyone with the dining plan place a CC on file to help with any issues that may arise.

Sooooo what happens if they count the towels left in your room after you check out and find a few "missing"?

The Black Helicopters will show up hovering over your house one night. Slowly the silent Disney security personnel decend down the ropes and make their way to your door....

IMO it is safer to just use your CC at the parks.

Can I ask how? Instead of having your number exposed to the public at check in (and then possible when they charge it, not sure if its automated), it is safer to hand your CC number to stranger numerous times a day? At least when you put it on file at the desk you can see them swipe it, and then return it. When you hand it off to a waiter, they take it and disappear into another room with it. Much easier for them to copy down the number at that point. You can check the charges on your KTTW at any time.

Staying at a Disney hotel soon and worried my card might fail :/
If you put your credit card on your room and when they go to run the charges on your last day it fails, instead of a bill hanging on your doorknob on your check-out morning, you'll probably get either a call from the front desk or a knock on the door. They won't let you leave without it going through. Trust me. :)

They don't knock on your door. They may give you a phone call, but they won't hol you prisoner. They'll simply mail you a bill and attempt to collect the debt the way any other company would.

Disney is much, much harder to scam than your typical Wyndham, Hilton or Marriott. They don't even let you into the room until the room and tax are paid. The list goes on, but if someone was trying to scam a free stay, Disney is the last place in the USA that I'd try it.

People who plan to scam don't stay that last night.

In the event anyone thinks I'm giving criminals ideas, I'm not. I used to get paid to deal with/prevent this crap. I know all the tricks. This is common knowledge for criminals. It's as basic as "put it in your pocket" for thieves. Actually getting away with it requires more work. :)

I never worked for Disney but am familiar with some of their practices. I'd suggested all of it to the folks I worked for. They wanted no part of it. Then I met a big shot from Disney and he said they didn't have the kind of stuff we did because they were doing all the stuff I'd suggested. To this day, I watch the front desk staff and they still do it.

There are plenty of people who travel the country and get free stays from expensive hotels...but they aren't doing it much at WDW.

I based this statement purely on the fact that you are more likely to loose a room key than a credit card. Not on the rare unscrupulous acts of severs. Most people are more guarded about there credit card than what aquaits to a room key. If in the park and your key is lost and someone goes on a spree in a park before you notice your vacation is going to be a disaster trying to dispute charges that occured via a card connected to a room key which you have been using at the park etc will be difficult and take time. With your CC if they take the number and start making internet purchases etc you will most likely get a call from the backing bank as a red flag will go up in there Risk Management system. Bascially who would be buying a TV online while staying at Disney?
People need to do what they are comforatble with, carry a some cash or set up a Chase Checking account before you go and draw cash for free out of the ATMs throughout the park.

But at the same time, if it is your KTTW, which is also most peoples tickets, odds are you would notice it being gone significantly faster than a credit card. Be it when you needed a fast pass, wanted to use the DP to get a meal credit, or even to get back into your hotel room. I'd wager you would notice that the KTTW was gone much faster than one of 3-4 credit cards (which most people usually carry), and would get Disney to shut it down.
