Ok so here's the current plan.. leave around 4pm on Thursday..power thru and avoid pretty much any and all rush hour traffic the entire drive down 95.Get to Orlando sometime around 12-1pm on Friday. Find a place to stay overnight.. check into BWI around 8 the next morning..

OR leave Friday morning around 6am.. again avoiding MOST of the rush hour stuff..but arrive in Orlando around 3am..

Or Leave Friday around 9/10am.. hit rush hour stuff near DC..get into Orlando about 7/8am Saturday.. check into BWI..

The "I want vacation NOW" part of me wants to leave Thursday.. and just find a place to sleep friday night. the rational side of me says leave Friday mid morning .. the 6am one I don't really care about..lol

ahhhhh

I vote for the Thursday drive with stay overnight. Get the vacation started as soon as possible. plus you will be more rested for the first, because who can resist not going to a park the first day? Not me!:D

Good Lord. And you guys are going to drive to DL? More power to you guys!

Yep! But we are doing a 7000 mile 6 week road trip. We are seeing parts of canada, driving old route 66, seeing the grand canyon and hoover dam, DL, Area 51 then parts of TX,LA and down to WDW up thru 95 stopping wherever we want etc..staying with some friends some of the time and hole in the wall motels the rest. Its going to be a heck of a learning experience for my kids!

Awesome! Reminds me of a trip I took with my grandparents when I was 12. We saw the Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, along with some other cool stuff in the Midwest. I think we ended up going to 9 states on that trip. Was a great experience!

We need time for things to happen.
We do this drive every year.. we actually fully enjoy it. We are driving to DL in 2-3 years.. but that trip is over 7000 miles total and more than 6 DAYS of total driving :)

I'm the same way I don't mind the drive at all. I don't do it for Disney trips typically but have done it to visit my parents in Lauderhill. I can knock out 20-22 hour drive with nothing more than a road side cat nap (if necessary). My wife sleeps most of the way so she loves it too. ;)

My husband considers it a challenge and he loves doing it.. I MAY drive in the carolina's but I am really NOT good on the highway so...

ID go with this option BUT Id make a reservation in advance at a place near Disney, heck for this purpose Id book one night in a value resort All Stars or whatever.they are inexpensive and you are right there to head to BWI at 8am...this is a good plan as getting to the BWI that early often you can get a room then and there..pending the previous nights occupancy. You can also have the Value resort transfer your baggage to the BWI...just my 2 cents but I always get there the night before and stay at Shades of Green as Im military..and then head to my Deluxe resort early the next day happy as a lark and well rested

that was a thought BUT we have 5 of us and I don't want to get 2 rooms nor pay for a suite
