Tell me about Tokyo Dining...

So we're messing with our ADR's for September and OF COURSE with free dining we can't get the ressies we'd like (Garden Grill, Coral Reef, Teppan Edo...) so I am looking into Tokyo Dining. I don't really read that much about it. Is it that bad?!? Or is it just a hidden gem like Sanaa at Kidani? Tell me about it if you've been there!!! :)

I've eaten there a lot and I like it. I've eaten on both sides of the restaurant. I prefer the side where they cook in front of you but the modern side is really good to. It's probably been 3 years since I ate there but I remember well enough to know I've never had a bad meal there.

It is signature so if you're on the DDP it'll be two credits. I wasn't wowed but I don't eat sushi or shellfish (severe allergy). I ordered the salmon and I've had better elsewhere but my husband loved his order (and he loves sushi). Our table was right out in the open and we were on the edge where everyone is coming and going to both restaurants. I'm sure the restaurant is nice if you're seated somewhere else. One aspect I have to give them props on is they were handing out towels as you came in because it was pouring down rain outside. It was so nice to be able to dry off a little before sitting down. I think all restaurants should offer this service during heavy rain ;) !

Also, if you have kids... the bento boxes are shaped like monorails! How awesome is that!?!

Tokyo Dining was only one credit in March and we both loved it! My fiancé had sushi and I had veggie tempura. Pretty awesome Japanese food in my opinion!

We didn't enjoy our experience here at all. Actually we were very disappointed. We had the sushi and it was horrible. The tuna was a pale whitish/pink which is just unacceptable to me. Most of the rolls/sashimi were tasteless or fishy, not fresh at all. I've had better at my local EarthFare. But I'll admit that I'm a sushi snob so maybe my standards are too high.

Daughter had the monorail meal and it was cute but again the food was subpar.

I definitely would not go again. I'd be extremely surprised to see it as a signature restaurtant as mentioned above. DEFINITELY not worthy of that title.

Sorry, my mistake... I was under the impression it was signature. I wasn't on the dining plan so I wasn't using credits anyway.

We need time for things to happen.
I'm a big fan of Japanese food, Sushi and Tempura alike and I was NOT impressed with this meal AT ALL. In fact everyone in the family was pretty let down -except for MAYBE my son who got to eat his kid's meal tempura out of a monorail dish..but even that wouldn't have made me happy. ;)

I don't know if it's a regional thing - We have quite a few really amazing Japanese and Asian fusion places around here so I don't know if I'm being harsh, but it was not a place
I would think about returning too.

We have eaten at Teppan Edo & it is now one of our favorite WDW restaurants!
We plan to eat there again during our next trip.

Went in sept. 08 to tokyo dining, loved it, went again in jan of 11, and it was absolutely awful, however, went to tappan edo this past january, and loved it. Go with tappan edo, don't go to tokyo, it was terrible imo

Tokyo dining isn't a signature, it's only 1 DDP credit. I was wondering however what is included on the the DDP if I want to get sushi? does only 1 roll count as an entree? because thats not much, or do they let you order a few rolls and count that as an entree?

Yes, I know that now... I was corrected above!

It's one of my favorite World Showcase restaurants.
Especially at night, when the inside atmosphere is at it's best.
I prefer their tempura over the sushi.
But that's probably because on most trips I've already stuffed myself with sushi over at Kimonos at the Swan, which is our first night at WDW tradition.

Sorry for the thread bump here, but I'm fairly surprised that I just found out this place existed (by randomly looking around the Disney website even). I'd never seen or heard mention of this place before.

So, same question was asked above and I'm wondering if there is an answer. If this is a DDP, how does that work with sushi? Do they do sushi ala cart in sashimi and rolls, or are they all pre-made meals?
I'm intrigued, and may have an open DDP point to use on my upcoming trip, but don't want to spend it for an overpriced bento box.

Love it! If you care for sushi at all, it's great! The tempura is also good!:)

Sushi there is really really good! Highly suggest the eel if your into that sort of thing. :)

I hope we get an aswer. I still don't know what the deal is with sushi.
