I finally saw "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" tonight and I really liked it despite friends' and critics' reviews. I thought the relative shortness of the film was a breath of fresh air. I was also glad that Disney decided not to include Keira Knightley or Orlando Bloom. I was definitely sick of their relationship by the end of "Dead Man's Chest".
Here's my ranking of the Pirate films.
#1 Dead Man's Chest: Love Triangle, Great Villains, Cliff Hanger Ending. I loved the whole island sequence with the cannibals. The darkest of the films and the best.
#2 Curse of the Black Pearl: The one that started them all.
#3 On Stranger Tides: The most coherent of Pirate's films. Penelope was a nice addition. Loved the mermaid subplot too.
#4 At World's End: I was soooo disappointed with AWE. It seemed very rushed . They built up the Kraken big time in DMC and then he just ends up lying dead on some beach. The whole Davy Jone's locker sequence was so awful. Calypso turning into crabs?!? ! The only thing this film was missing was Jack Sparrow climbing into a refrigerator to avoid a nuclear fallout.
