iPad 2 - any takers?

I just don't understand why I need an iPad or any tablet for that matter. I have a great laptop that I love. If I am going somewhere it is no problem for me to bring it. Plus, I hate most touch screen things. My phone is the exception but, I just don't think I could get used to surfing the internet heavily on a touch screen.

And guys wonder why some women have to have the latest styles in clothes. She has better/nicer clothes - I've gotta go shopping! He has better/newer electronics - I've gotta go shopping!
Insert any item that you think your SO spends too much on, and he/she will do the same for you.

I'm perfectly content with my first generation iPad. I use it around two hours a day and it works great. I don't video chat so I wouldn't have a purpose for it, the size is fine for my hands, and it just seems to awkward to take pictures with.

I still do not have any real need for a tablet outside of it being an expensive toy. If I traveled all the time I could maybe see it. For the price I would much rather get a decent laptop or build a good desktop than get an over sized smart phone.

This is my problem too. I'd be curious to hear what people actually use their iPads (or any other tablet) for.

The few people I know that have them and really do use them are on the road all the time. They are great for email and entertainment and they are far easier to deal with than a laptop.

I guess if I traveled more I could find a need for it. I go to my sisters house a lot for the weekend but it is no problem to just bring my laptop. It might be nice to not have to drag the whole thing on a plane though. The only person I know that has one just uses it to play Angry Birds, play Words With Friends, and surf Facebook. I can do all three of those things on my phone any time I want.

That is my situation as well. Right now a tablet is actually too big. I want something I can fit in my pocket. If I am in a situation were something not being pocket sized is not an issue my laptop is fine.

I had a Droid until I got my iPad wifi version, then I got rid of he Droid. The iPad works alot better than the Droid when it comes to apps and the internet. I don't have a laptop anymore, so the iPad is great in that sense. The screen is easier to read than a phone one.

I thought the iPad was a waste until I started using one and then ultimately owning one. If you don't want a smartphone or laptop, it's excellent. I use mine at least two hours a day for reading (via the Kindle app, and soon the Wall Street Journal) surfing the web, email, music, photos, videos, misc. Apps, and yes, the occasional game of angry birds.

I was talking to a family member of mine who owns an iPad and he said that he barely uses his Mac anymore (save for bills and CD's) because he can do everything else on the iPad, so take it for what it's worth.

My attorney uses his to review cases with clients. It's much more convenient than carrying a briefcase, and more portable than a laptop.

I use mine all the time, and I do mean all the time at work and at home and for leisure...but it absolutely doesn't replace a laptop for doing real work and printing. Plus, it is 100% tied to having another computer anyway, just like an iPhone or iPod. Its an extension of your computer, not a replacement.

But that being said, I also recommend iPad's to all my patients, and I am NOT currently recommending the iPad2 unless there is no more choice and all ipad originals are out of stock.

Here is my full blog posting on this:
