Leave a Legacy On It's Way Out?

We hunt our tile down every trip we make. We try not to pull out the card that tells us where to look. I always think I found the one of me, but who knows who I am really looking at. It was fun, but I will not miss them when they are gone.

I'd like to see the graveyard removed personally. It feels like you are walking through a cemetary AND it congests the crowds and makes entering and exiting the park a pain in the pants.

to be fair, i just walked straight passed LaL, simply because i don't really want to see a million strangers faces etched out on some tiles. i don't know who they are, where they came from or anything. glad to see they've taken them off the legs though.

If (according to most) the images are to be displayed for 20 years, then they need to be around until 2027 since the last were sold in 2007 according to AllEars:
The Leave A Legacy program, first launched at Epcot in Fall 1999, has been discontinued as of June 16, 2007. The current display of more than 550,000 tiles at the main entrance of Epcot will remain for the time being.

As I recall, Disney also kept the right to choose what "media" they are displayed in. So theoretically a wall of electronic images tucked away in Innoventions or what-have-you would satisfy the contract.

Or, they can use the brand new projector system that they have for the Castle at the MK and project the images on SSE all night!:ROFLOL::hurl:

I love LaL, my family got two tiles, one of me and my brother, and one of my parents. It is cool to know that there is a picture of me hanging in Disney World that everyone can see for years.

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but you (and your family any maybe someone else that you specifically direct to the location of your tile) will be the only ones who will ever see it. No one else really cares to stop and admire the one-dimensional thumbnail images of perfect strangers that have a resolution quality below that of newspaper print.

The thing to remember, is back in they day, they were giving them away.

When you booked a package you had a choice of

1) A $25 gift certificate to Planet Hollywood
2) A Leave a Legacy Tile
3) Something else that I did not take advantage of.

We used the $25 gift certificate the first time - bleah

We put my kids on LAL the next time

After that, the promo was over.

I am *guessing* this was back somtime in 2003 - 2005

I still have the LAL 'original' (the slide photo they took to make the etching). I'll have to see if there is a date on it.

I remember that. I picked Planet Hollywood as well.

I do.

But that's because I spend so many hours in the parks I have time to kill by looking at things I wouldn't normally. If I were a normal vacationer, no way.

Allears says there are more than 550,000 tiles.
Passporter says they cost $33 for one face and $38 for 2 (plus tax), with 10% discount for passholders.
If we arbitrarily use $35 for per tile it's over $19,250,000.

Just to back up what Phonedave said...

Sales on the tiles were MUCH slower than they anticipated, so in order to avoid having tons of empty display space, they started giving them away.

Ironically, giving them away didn't even fill the space. Which says quite a lot, considering how many people book Disney packages and had the option of choosing a free Leave a Legacy tile!!!

The monster trucks are coming to the Citrus Bowl, and I hear they need ramps...

We have a tile out there somewhere and don't even bother to look for it. I remember when it used to be an open area with trees and flower beds, it was very nice. I hope they do something like that again with it.
