Captain EO in pretty Lousy Shape

It's not that bad. Of course, it's not that good, either. What it does have is a delightfully cheesy nostalgic feel which makes it fun. HISTA is getting old, and this is a nice temporary thing. I would want to see them do something else with the space (something new, not bringing back HISTA) eventually, though. The preshow with the old trailer is a fun intro to the show, and puts you in the right mood for what you are about to see. If you are going into the show expecting something on the level of recent 3D shows, you probably shouldn't see it.

I like the music, but that's because I'm a kid of the 80's, but the show itself is TERRIBLE. The plot is soooo corny and not well thought out, the acting is poor, and the effects...very 1980's. If they could've re-done the whole show with Michael like say, back in the late 1990's-early 2000's, it might've been better.

It's worth seeing though. And I know it makes MJ and Captain EO fans happy.

I hope to see something WAY better than both Captain EO and Honey I Shrunk the Audience put in it's place in a few years.

Late 90's early 2000 Michael Jackson was very scary... Early to mid 80's Michael Jackson was the version a lot of people regard as the pinnacle of his career

I saw it about a week ago, and honestly, outside of the actual film and content being outdated, I felt like the show had better audio, lighting, and effects than a lot of things at WDW right now. The audio quality is amazing!

I also went on MuppetVision 3D recently and the audio sucked, you could barely hear parts of it and it was ineffective.

I never liked them bringing this attraction back. It just bled of trying to captalize on a death of a celebrity. We are going in December so it will be interesting to see how good the show stands up to todays standards.

Eh. its nostalgia. Just hope it gets replaced in a nominal amount of time.

Most people, especially Disney fans tend to be nostalgic. That's why they brought back this ABOMINATION.

EO was a pile of crap when it debuted..................... and it still is.

The nostalgic lemmings who CLAIM to enjoy this show will get their fix soon. The rest of us will continue to blow it off.
And Disney will pull this garbage pile fairly quickly.

Jackson's drug induced early death gave Disney an opportunity to make a quick buck.
Wish they hadn't, but can't really blame them. I guess.

After the initial freshness ends. People will see EO for what it really is.
An joke of an attraction inspired by a very messed up weirdo.
I'm not saying he wan't talented, just that this wasn't his best effort. Not by a long shot.
And his personal decisions left MUCH to be desired.

Hopefully something new will take its place.
HISTA was becoming very dated.

I am by no means a Michael Jackson fan or a Captain EO fan. It was nice to see something from the past though. Given the choice between another year of HISTA or a return of Captain EO I am happy with getting to see something nostalgic return.

Falling into a pit of hot lava would be more enjoyable then EO :D

Replace EO with HISTA and that statement is true. I always hated HISTA even as a little kid. The effects scared me and were just annoying. EO is very dated, but the effects are still cool, the music is great and it's a nice dose of cheesy 80s culture. I've seen it tons of times and will continue to until it's limited run is over.

Wow, I guess that's your way to blow off some steam?

I see EO as a love it or hate it kind of thing. I personally love. Those who hate it are welcome to their opinion, but don't get all snippy about it...

Call me nostalgic, but I never saw Captain EO as a kid (I was born in '83) - I saw it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it! I would have liked to see it a few more times, but my not so enthused wife disagreed and it was her birthday trip...

I remember reading that when TDC decided to bring EO back, they put put a statement that said the theaters would not have all the original effects put back in. I think it was a $$$ decision (no surprise there) and a way to get the film out ASAP. I remember seeing it in both DL and Epcot back when it debuted. What I remember, being that I was 8/9 years old at those times, was that the strobes, smoke, and other in-theater effects made that show wonderful. True, the music (first theme park attraction in full 16 channel surround) and sound were amazing, but the whole theater metamorphing really blew me away. Those that saw the show then, and those that are seeing it now for the first time, are not really seeing the same presentation. HISTA received a full theater make-over when it was installed, and the "temporary" status of EO most likely is the reason that the millions of dollars it would have cost to re-convert the Epcot thater to EO, and replace the DL version, could be better spent elsewhere.

Most of your comment is unnecessary and downright rude.

But as for the above quote, I can't be nostalgic for something I don't remember so...swing and a miss for you. Perhaps it isn't as black and white as you'd want it to be.

In another case of Disney not fixing things right away, I saw Captain EO last night and there were a few things that badly needed attention:

1. One of the curtains covering the doors into the theater was broken and always open.
2. In one spot, the curtain covering the wall in the pre-show area was uncovered and in a weird position.
3. In the theater, one of the seats was making a loud rushing air noise because the water spraying device was broken. It really disrupted the entire show.

Hopefully these problems will get fixed soon.

One the positive end, however, it got a new sign near the exit:

Sorry the pic is a little dark.

I saw it for the first time Saturday night and didn't notice anything wrong with it, other than a person leaving during the show and the door not closing immediately - it was probably open for a minute or two. That was distracting, but it didn't ruin the show.

I never even saw it until it returned this summer, and while I find it a little bit awkward, I still enjoy it more than HISTA. Its probably going to be here until a new replacement for HISTA comes, so it was a choice of having an attraction that is outdated in a bad way (HISTA) or having one that is outdated in a campy, cheesy, fun way (EO).

Think what you want about MJ, but there is absolutely nothing in the film itself that would make you think of him as a bad person.
