Does anyone have any history of Disney bringing back an attaction from the dead?

many people lobby for horizons constantly............what are the real chances of Disney reinstating a discontinued attaction.....

have they EVER done it before???????

Yeah.. Captain EO is currently playing at Disneyland.

That's an easy enough one to bring back though... it's a movie. But a huge scale attraction like Horizons? Not a chance. Unless it was some kind of updated... not at all like it was before... version.

In this day of HD digital archives, Disney should be capturing every attraction in a way that can be used in a simulator device once the attraction closes.

Imagine this -- you walk up to a screen, select the extinct attraction you want to take a ride on, jump in, and viola! Add some cool sensory functions (to recreate Horizons loranges for example) and you have a pretty cool experience for those craving a little nostalgia!

Not quite the same as being there, but hey, it's better than nothing right?

That's not the worst idea I've ever heard.

If it ever came back it wouldn't be the same. I know DLP was going to get a new Horizons at one point and there's still a space for it. Will it happen? Probably not, but it would be nice.

I have heard disney will take the ride being replaced and put all of its components into storage if they ever wanted to bring the ride back!

lol I wish but no everything is either thrown out, used for other attractions or sold.

Cool site! Didn't know that existed.

The only thing I can think of that was "brought back" was Figment, after he was taken out of JIYI (aside from appearances in the queue movies.) He was in the original JII, and is is the current attraction. I don't know if he made a comeback due to complaints or what - I just noticed he was there, then not, then there again.

Fun fact - Figment was in JIYI. In the finale. Think join the dots.

Disney wouldn`t bring back a whole attraction. It would be admission they got it wrong. The closest they came to it was JIIWF.

It is my understanding that they did.

Guests do have a measure of control over attractions but it is limited. If enough people complain about an attraction Disney will alter them within reason. M:S, Snow White, AE and JII are great examples of this but I do not think guest outcry will ever bring an attraction back from the dead.

We need to remember that all the attractions closed for a reason. Disney executives do not periodically put up park maps on the wall and throw darts at them to see what attraction will get the chair next. Low attendance, maintenance costs, technically issues, guest feedback or any combination of those factors can shutter an attraction.

...and Sponsership...

I do know some WDI imagineers target rides (skew feedback and such) so they could replace them with "their" attractions. That came from them. I'll give a you guess which one they bragged about targeting :D

Part of the expansion plan for Disney's California Adventure is an attraction called Luigi's Roamin' Tires, which will be part of Carsland. I'm not sure if this really counts as "bringing an old attraction back", but it's been pretty widely communicated that this attraction is essentially a re-birth of the old Tomorrowland Flying Saucers attraction that was at DL in the 60's. It's just a different theme.

Universe of Energy 1.5 is an example, sort of.

Here's the story, as far as I know it:

Ellen's Energy Adventure was taking longer than expected. Most of the ride building changes were done, but the film wasn't. Because Test Track was under construction, and Horizons was closed, this would mean Future World East would be barren for the summer of 1996. (only WoL would have been open)

So, they decided to bring back the original Universe of Energy for a while. The rotating screens were gone, so they made a flat-screen version of the pre-show. The mirrors in the final theater were also gone. Overall it was an inferior show experience, but it was better than nothing.

So, in a sense, they brought back UoE from the dead. (or at least resuscitated it one final time) But as far as I know, Captain EO is the only example of them bringing back an attraction due to popularity, rather than necessity.

(PS. shout out to Martin Smith, I learned all this from his awesome tributes)

If we can dream it, then we can do it. Yes we can, yes we can! Captain EO was a great step! Though I doub they'll ever fully bring an attraction back from the dead, it woudl be great to experience 20k, Mr Toad, JII, Horizons, WoM, Cranimum Command, etc via Innoventions or any other means. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed. :o :D

There are several attractions at Disneyland that Disney has brought back, besides Captain EO like has already been mentioned. Disneyland's castle and submarine lagoon had sat empty and unused for years, but recently both have reopened as the returned Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough and the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. Others thought that their Enchanted Tiki Room and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln were gone forever as well, but both have also returned in the past few years. And then there's even smaller stuff, like the classic Tomorrowland Terrace stage (which rises in and out of the ground) which was removed in 1998, but WDI returned a few years ago.

So in other words, no, nothing on the scale of Horizons or World of Motion has ever been revived, but a lot of smaller stuff certainly has... :)
