Just wanted to provide a few notes about our TS dining experiences the last few days of December....

Hoop Dee Doo -- our first time here. Really fun time. I thought the food was good, especially considering that they have it all hot for every table at the exact same time. This is an accomplishment in and of itself, as that takes quite a bit of work to pull off.
Really enjoyed the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. DS (11) loved the sweet cornbread and ate 5 pieces of it. Ribs were good; not as good as my own (wink), but were good. Beans, good; mac n cheese not as good. Strawberry shortcake was not my favorite. I had expected it to be much better.

Whispering Canyon -- breakfast. None of us ordered the ayce skillet. We had pancakes/sausage, waffle & eggs/bacon/potatoes plates. All was good, not great. Nothing spectacular here. Atmosphere was fun, but the room was only 2/3 full, and only one waitress was really "in" to the theme. The others did a passable job, but it wasn't a "hopping good time" either. I would say only go if you are staying at the lodge and it's convenient. I wouldn't make a special trip over just to eat there.

LTT -- we really enjoyed this meal. It has gotten some bad press on this board lately, but we all really liked it. However, I will say that we certainly exceeded our sodium intake max. for the day with this one meal. I don't know how to describe it, b/c nothing actually tasted salty but the ham, but you could definitely tell that everything had a lot of salt in it. The flank steak was very flavorful, and we asked for a second helping. Everything else was good as well. I would definitely eat here again even though I missed the characters.

to be continued....

50s Prime Time Cafe -- it was our first time to eat here. We had a great "kitchen" table with our own tv. (I had thought that all the tables were this way, but many tables are long booth/chair arrangements with a tv in the corner near the ceiling. I would have been disappointed to get one of these. I wonder if you can make a request?)

Anyway, it was our son's bday, and we had a great waitress who really played everything up for us. She sent around a bday card for the other tables in our area to sign, and we conjured up some kind of misbehavior on his part so that she put him in "time out." It was really funny and lots of fun, mostly because of her hamming it up for us.

DH had the pot roast, which was yummy, especially if you mixed everything together (meat, mashed potatoes, carrots and gravy). I would order that if we ate there again.

The kids had chicken caesar salads, and I had the salmon caesar. All were fine, decent, but nothing special. My salmon had a really nice looking rub on top of it, but somehow tasted rather bland. I had hoped for a little zing, but I guess it's safer on their part to keep the food more on the bland side rather than spicing it up.

Hollywood & Vine -- we really enjoyed our meal here. This is another restaurant that gets some negative comments on the board, but this is the second time we've eaten here, and liked it both times.

It was really nice to be able to eat a plate full of veggies here. Also, we all enjoyed the cold seafood selections (crab claws, shrimp cocktail, mussels), and shared a couple plates as appetizers. Of course, I've had better, but they were good here, and you were able to have as much as you wanted. My kids are seafoodaholics, so they were thrilled. H&V also had a good carved beef roast, a nice variety of salads and some pretty good desserts. Overall, we were pleased with this meal.

One side note: I noticed a table near us with 6 or 7 kids ranging in age from 15 down to 3 or so. Every kid at that table ate nothing but chicken nuggets and mac & cheese. I was very thankful at that moment that my kids enjoy a variety of foods and are willing to try most things on a buffet like this one. I would have been very irritated if I had paid $30 for them to eat that junk.

Overall, I would say we are least likely to return to Whispering Canyon. We are most likely to return to Hoop Dee Doo and Liberty Tree Tavern.

I'll post some reviews of our early Jan TS dining in another thread.

Love the reviews. Thanks.
I also didn't know about the different types of tables at 50's Prime Time.
Appreciated that info, we'll be going there for the first time this summer.

50s is a must-do for us. Love the pot roast. It's my favorite meal on property. We have always had a good time there.

The fried chicken is very good and also the S'mores.

:slurp:

The first time we ate there, my wife ordered the fried chicken and I ordered the meatloaf. Both were decent comfort food. (I ate some off her plate so she wouldn't get in trouble.)

I have a bit of a hang-up with fried chicken at sit-down restaurants because it's rarely significantly better than KFC. I always think I could have gotten fried chicken that was comparable for much less money.

My wife is a big fan of the S-mores. I like them, but you can make them at home easily. We have done so on many occassions. I also enjoyed the Dad's Brownie Sundae. Who would have thought carmel corn on a sundae would be good?

The dessert I want to try is the peanut butter and jelly shake. I hear it's great.
