Mission: Space...was it hyped?

Mission Space was wayyy overhyped on these boards!! You'd have thought it also found a cure for cancer.

All of a sudden, dozens of usernames either switched to or joined as an "ISTC-something or other." So many people, guys specifically, jumped on this band wagon. I remember reading reviews of this being the first "F-Ticket" ride--you'll never be on another ride/ attraction better than this ever.

Yeah, okay. Sure it's fun to some, but it is certainly not an F-Ticket. Huge overload on MS on the forums.

But, I think any attraction these days get overhyped with this thing called the Internet. I remember I knew nothing of Tower/Terror and Splash Mtn....following a ride's creation often can lead to some dissappointm, ent.
Don't worry, it still is an F-Ticket... in more ways than one. :brick:

I don't know, I've always loved that ride, and I thought it was long overdue in Epcot to have some sort of Space themed attraction.

It was overhyped, but people also remember Horizons with more nostalgia than reality as it approached its closing. Horizons was my favorite Disney attraction when it was open, just to be fair.

I loved Horizons, too, but I wouldn't have minded losing it if we got the original Mission:Space concept, the one that included this:

Instead, all we got was a spinning porta-john.

Or this one.

Would have been a FULL pavilion, and MUCH more immersive. Shame.

However, I am in no way displeased with the M:S Concept. It just needs to be more than a ride.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
IMO the only ride more over-hyped than M:S was Horizons. :animwink:
They're both excellent rides, but nostalgia makes people think Horizons was designed by God Himself and overenthusiastic publicity people made it seem like M:S was so much better than it really is.

It has lost its popularity fastl, I have never waited more than 30 minutes but on New Years eve, one of the busiest days of the year the line never wnet over 45 minutes.

I do not think it has really lost all that much popularity. The low waits are at least IMHO a product of a higher hourly capacity and a narrower rider base than TT or Soarin.

Did you ever ride it? :lookaroun

It was easily the most immersive and cohesive ride that they have done.

I did many times, too, and I have to say, it was pretty freaking awesome.:lookaroun:lol:
It was a great attraction....my favorite in Epcot....but all the hype/nostalgia have built it up way past what the attraction ever actually was. The only comparison I can think of would be King Tutankhamun. He is the most well known Egyptian Pharaoh. This is not because he was of any real importance. His popularity is entirely due to the fact that his tomb was the most intact when it was discovered and not because he really did anything special. In historical terms, Tutankhamun is of only moderate significance, primarily as a figure managing the beginning of the transition from the heretical Atenism of his predecessor Akhenaten back to the familiar Egyptian religion. In a nut shell....He was not much more than a blip in Egyptian history.

Ooh. Good analogy...but just a blip?! I really don't think that it was that. It might have not been Walt's Gift to Themed Entertainment, (:lookaroun) but, it was special. There's a reason for all the hype the concerns it now. While it might be overplayed, it was pretty damn good, and pretty close to the meaning and theme of EPCOT Center.
